2020 felt a bit soulless cause it was in the middle of the pandemic and couldnt get the singers to come and lack of audience , but it was cool that we even had a competition to begin with

The reason they didn't invite the singers was that 36 hours before the start, spectators were banned in China and it was supposed to be played elsewhere than at the stadium.

So riot came out with a statement about the production of the 2020 opening ceremony. They admitted the graphics and production weren’t their best work, but it wasn’t due to neglect. Because of the pandemic, and their need for at least a year of work on the production in advance, they were unable to make things look polished the way they were meant to be because they couldn’t work in close quarters together. Almost all of what was done was done individually from home and they were also made to outsource some of the production because of their limitations. It’s truly unfortunate because everyone was SOOOO excited for KDA to get a huge show at the opening ceremony that would eclipse their previous one but, well…you saw how they ended up looking.

in case you were wondering the names of the characters in the "the call" cinematic! Ice Lady- Sejuani She's a war leader of the Freljord (an ice region) she rides a boar named Bristle~ Viking guy- Olaf viking guy i'm not too sure LOL he's a playable character tho Bear people are followers of a champion name- Volibear Red guy with horns- Ornn (he's a legendary god blacksmith thing) Purple desert girl- Kai'Sa(she's the girl with the ponytail and wings from K/DA the one that in Popstars had purple hair with buns) she fell into the void as a child a uses a voidling as a bionic suit to survive and fight the void back. but the suit needs to eat so she kills void to feed it etc. Earth Bender girl-Taliyah a nomadic Stone Weaver Sparta guy is- Pantheon, he's a former or current? Aspect of War from the celestial gods, a title given as he ascended mount targon and became a celestial. Sun/Solari Lady- Leona. she's the Aspect of the Sun, she is also a celestial. she represents the sun. OH and lastly. the creature attacking Taliyah and Kai'Sa was a QUEEN of the void named Rek'Sai. Void is full of creatures in Runeterra universe.

Hmmmm the Aspects are not really physical and needed host to exist on Runeterra... Pantheon is the name of the Aspect of War the hosts name is Atreus. One day Pantheon fought against the most powerful Darkin Aatrox and lost. The scar on Atreus's chest was where Aatrox stabbed him. This killed the Aspect of War and made the Star for the Aspect of War in the heavens above go out. However something happened that should not have happened... Atreus refused to die and kept a sliver of the Aspect of Wars power which reignited the Aspect of Wars Star. Atreus is neither an Aspect but nor is he a normal human he's something in-between but he hates the Aspects because they use mortals for their own ends and was at Mount Targon to fight the Aspects in their home Realm of Targon Prime. He was some say cast down by Aurelian Sol... but I think it was another Aspect, The Aspect of Twilight Zoey.

I will never forget when they used that AR Dragon at Worlds, such a great moment. Like man, the Worlds opening aren’t perfect, like shit goes wrong from time to time like with that 2020 KDA models looking very rough, or with the Rise and Legends Never Die songs starting out a bit rough, but they’re still such a spectacle to watch overall.

The Spartan-guy's story is super inspiring. His name is Atreus, and he was a warrior from the tribe called the Rakkor, on Mount Targon (same place at the Solari and Lunari). He ascended the summit, and was chosen by the Aspect of War and became Pantheon. But unlike the other celestial Aspects who kind of just supercharge you and give you divine insight, War took him over completely, imprisoning Atreus in his own body. The Warrior took his body on a joyride around Runeterra, fighting all sorts of nasty demons and the like. Until he went up against the biggest and baddest of the fallen Darkin warrors, Aatrox the World Ender. Aatrox impaled Pantheon (that huge scar on his chest) and killed the Aspect of War forever. But, as Pantheon says in-game: "The god died. The man lived." The Warrior died, but Atreus did not. He still has the divine weapons and some power of the dead Aspect, and now wanders the world, fighting against both the monsters and Darkin who would slaughter humanity, and the Aspects who treat human lives like disposable pieces in a game.

"Evil Heimerdinger" is Ornn. One of four gods of Freljord(Ornn-Volibear-Anivia(female)-Unknown). Ornn is blacksmith god, like hephaistos. Ice chick is iceborn Sejuani, from Winterclaw Clan. Using two axe guy is Olaf. Spartan guy is Atreus, once upon a time, he was god. You can learn more on league of legends's website. That's all i have remember. Sorry for the insufficient information.

I was WAITING for this reaction! I remember saying in a previous comment The Call was quite literally breathtaking. I'll explain who they are without writing essays this time (hopefully lol). The big teddybear in the beginning is Ornn, he's a smith/forger and he lives under/in a volcano. The warrior on the boar, she's Sejuani - Warmother. The freezing bolas she tosses is her ultimate move. The bear who wielded electricity is Volibear, an ancient warrior bear/spirit that fiercely protects the tundra. The viking style warrior with the two horned helm is Olaf, he's a berserker and his ultimate move is he ignores all enemy crowd control abilities (stuns, slows, roots...etc) and violently charges right into them - he literally shrugged off that huge glacier that fell on him lol The spartan looking guy is Atreus who was, previously, possessed by the "Aspect of War" named Pantheon. He's now free of Pantheon and defends humanity against gods, Aspects, spirits and everything stronger than humans. He leaves his spear when fighting humans, he doesn't want to kill them needlessly. But picks it up again when he fights Leona - Aspect of the Sun. He was trying to reach the city on the other side of that portal to get help (or fight someone? lol), but Leona stops him. The girl who controls stone that's Taaliyah, a very strong mage. The girl with her is Kai'sa, once lost in the 'Void' - a nightmarish realm of creatures and monsters, now symbiotically bonded with her suit and trying to protect humanity from the creatures of the void. Which brings me to the last champion, a void creature, the giant monster pursuing Kai'sa, her name is Rek'sai, an apex predator that burrows and tunnels underground for her prey As someone who plays league often, that trailer...wow, breathtaking, amazing, incredible to see all the champs in the game brought to life like this. I do HOPE they one day make a league movie or include a lot of these REALLY COOL champs in the future Arcane seasons. Thank you guys! This made my day!

*ABOUT THE CALL CINEMATIC VIDEO* The red wookie is Ornn, God of the Forge. The few scenes where he is making a sword is significant because Ornn hasn’t forged a weapons in over a thousand years. The making of a weapon is a sign that war is coming. The ice place is Freljord. The lady on the boar (Bristle) is Sejuani. She is leading her small group of warriors (including Olaf, the dude who head butt the ice) against the Ursine (the polar bear dudes). Sejuani is part of a much larger group, but they are scattered into many smaller groups to make survival easier (less mouths to feed logic). The Ursine are followers of a god named Volibear (The bear in the clouds). The Ursine are men who can transform into bears and use lightning because they worship Volibear. They stole a cauldron from Ornn that allows any mortal to go a year without food if they drink from it. (Ornn and Volibear are brothers, but they don’t like eachother). The Ursine stole the cauldron because Volibear believes it makes men weak. (Man needs to be fighting constantly to stay strong logic). The desert area is a region of Shurima. Taliyah (the earthbending lady) and Kai’sa (purple girl) have teamed up recently to fight the Xer’sai (small(er) tunneling monsters from the Void). The Xer’sai are children of the big creature, Rek’sai. In the end, Kai’sa sacrifices herself (not in a dying way but like a freedom way) by leading Rek’sai back to the void while Taliyah seals the tunnel. Taliyah is all about protecting people and Kai’sa is all about fighting void monsters. Kai’sa’s suit is actually a living creature that created a symbiotic relationship with Kai’sa (think venom). Kai’sa was a normal human girl, but she got trapped in the void at a young age and had to fight for survival while miraculously keeping her hair, skin, and makeup beautiful. The spartan is Pantheon but also has the human name Atreus. (I’m a bit iffy on this side of the lore). Pantheon is a man that was possessed/gained the power of the aspect of war, but the aspect of war died and gave Pantheon his humanity back (or something like that). He is climbing Mount Targon which is like a magical mountain that the celestials and aspects (basically gods) reside. Few mortals are able to reach the top of Mount Targon. Those that do are granted great power. (Reason pantheon god the power of the aspect of war.) The men he encounters by the portal are the solari. They are men who worship the sun. Pantheon drives his spear into the ground because he does not have any quarrel with humans. Pantheon hates the celestials and aspects which is why he is ascending the mountain to fight them. He beats the shit out of the men, but he doesn’t kill them because his fight is with the aspects. The gold lady, Leona appears from the portal to fight Pantheon. (The look he gives her is him being glad he’s finally found the opponent he’s been looking for). Leona is the aspect of the sun and leader of the solari. During the fight, Pantheon is blasted by a giant laser, which is theorized to be a falling star from a being named Aurelion Sol. He is a giant space that created the universe and likely the final boss opponent for Pantheon. The final bit of Pantheon’s part of the video, he is using his god powers to jump back to the top of the mountain which is his ultimate in the game where he can jump halfway across the map and come crashing down on his enemies. If there is anything I missed or got wrong I’m sure there will be replies correcting me.

Love that music video and love the music itself even more. It's been on my playlist since I've first heard it. Thinking about it, I think you also missed "Phoenix (ft. Cailin Russo and Chrissy Costanza) | Worlds 2019 - League of Legends" which is another good music video. 15:20 From the making of, the portal as a weird motion and there are color bars for a frame or two because the camera in charge of that scene died so they had to switch to an alternate one which was a bit misaligned with the intended position. The team behind it felt like dying inside even though we barely notice it if we don't know.

Since it was brought up in the video to qualify for Worlds you have to either win your regional league or place top 2/3/4 depending on region. A region can get more seeds if they consistently do well internationally. Once at Worlds from 2017-2022 (23 changed some things) there were 3 stages of play: Play-Ins, Groups, Knockout. For all 3 stages the groups & brackets are decided randomly. For play-ins the 3rd/4th seeds from the major regions (NA, EU, CN, KR) & 1st/2nd minor region teams get separated into 4 groups of 3 in a double round-robin (pre-2020) or 2 groups of 5 (20-21)/6 (22) in a single round robin, all bo1s. Each groups 1st vs. another groups 2nd in a bo5 (pre-2020) or auto-qualifies for groups (2020-22). In the 2 group format each groups 3rd/4th face each other in a bo5, with the winner facing the other groups 2nd in a bo5 for the group spot.* In groups it's 4 groups of 4 in a double round robin bo1, with the top 2 of each group making it to knockouts. In both play-ins & groups a group can't have more than 1 team from the same region in it unless there's no other option. For example, group A can't have 2 NA teams in it, so if a second one were to be drawn it would then go to the next available group. In Knockouts it's a single elimination bo5, with each groups 1st seed playing another's 2nd. Winner of the finals raises the Summoner's Cup and becomes world champions. *The reason for the play-in format change is because Vietnam couldn't attend from 20-21 due to COVID travel restrictions, while in 22 Russia couldn't attend due to Russia's Ukraine invasion getting their regional league cancelled earlier that year.

Welcome to Pro league of legends. Since its a global esport, Riot has organized competition into regions and made each region its own league. The big four are: South Korea - plays in the LCK China - plays in the LPL Europe - plays in the LEC North America/Australia - plays in the LCS Japan, Brazil, and Turkey are probably the next three largest regions. During the year each regional league has a regular season cut into two splits (the Spring split, which we are in the middle of now, and the Summer split). The best teams from each region by the end of the summer split are invited to the biggest tournament Riot hosts all year: WORLDS. Major regions can send their top 3 teams (top 4 in China and Korea's case since they are the best two regions), minor regions can send one representative. The tournament takes a month to play out and ends in the World Finals, which you are watching the opening ceremonies to.

There is no "Draft" but each team scouts for players in the Ranked Ladder of the server, which would show the top players of the region, nowadys these players can get into the Academy rosters for each region and from there work their way up to the big teams, or just get stucked on Academy. There is also a lot of transfers, its very rare for a player to stay on a team for a very long time, the ones that do is because they are considered to be very good and a core for the team itself, but generally players are being sold, bought or benched every off season. So, there are Several Regions in league competitive scene, each with their own League of Teams, for example: Korean LCK North America LCS Europe LEC China LPL These are all MAJOR regions, there are other Minor regions like Latin America LLA Japan LJL Brasil CBLOL Oceania LCO Turkey TCL South-East Asia PCS There are two international tournaments each year, MSI, a one team per region tournament in mid season, and Worlds which is more important end of season tournament in which every region sends their best teams to represent (top teams from that years regular season). The number of Teams each regions sends usually depends on previous tournaments performance of the region, major regions with 3-4 teams each, and minor ones with only 1 or 2.

"I dont know how they sign players" In beetween seasons teams just negotiate with the players they want to sign and then get them in a one year contract or multiple year contract if they want to keep the player long-term. Teams who want to sign a player whos already under contract need to pay a buy-out to the team that has the player already under contract. That system is standard in most team based sports in the world. The US drafting system is generally just weird :P Also League of Legends Esports is just a part of South Korean and chinese culture. That game is huge over there. Still really big in the west ofc, but no comparison. There are videos of public places in china going wild when a chinese team wins worlds. Dorms, malls, etc. Really fun to watch and gives you a perspective.

On League of Legends YT channel there is a video called 10 months, 10 minutes which is about Opening ceremony of 2019 (with the Giants)...where the production team and everyone pretty much creating what you saw in the opening ceremony talk about HOW exactly they do it, with even the issues etc etc....and even with months of planning...they are pretty much finishing everything day before the ceremony, hoping everything will work out I VERY HIGHLY recommend watching "Making the Worlds 2021" ....where you can see how much bigger Riot even planned to do next worlds, and how pandemic screwed up 2020 and 2021 plans....they literally wanted to build Piltover/Zaun cities on stage :o

So, you guys commented how you didn't know how professional League players are drafted. To my knowledge, the following is how it works in North America and Europe. I'm unsure of the method the Asian countries take but I assume it's something similar; The teams will look at players in small scale tournaments, league streamers, and individuals who reach Masters or above in Ranked. Now there is also the LCS Scouting Grounds where you can put yourself out there for teams to find you. If a team thinks you could be a good fit, they'll contact you and speak with you and if all goes well you'll be placed onto an Academy team. Academy teams are basically training teams where you learn the ropes of professional League and everything that it entails. If you can survive the heat of the stage and prove yourself a worthy asset, then you can be selected to be signed onto a team. Often the team you are in Academy for is the one that signs you but not always, it all depends on the role(s) you play and the cycling of players such as if you were on the C9 Academy team as an ADC but they have all their main team ADC slots filled you could be signed on by another team with an ADC slot open. Hope this helped you understand a little! Obviously this isn't the entire picture and if I got anything wrong someone is welcome to correct me.

The Solari and Lunari are both part of the people of Targon, called Targonians. They're basically demi gods, and once they ascend Mt. Targon they become full fledged gods. The spartan guy is called Pantheon and a lot of his design was taken from Ares, God of War. Mt. Targon as a whole draws a lot form Mt. Olympus. Leona, who was fighting Pantheon seems to draw a lot from Athena, Goddess of Wisdom and Handicraft.

For furthermore LoL lore in the Call cinematic in order. Ornn is the God of Forging/Blacksmiths. He swore to never forge a weapon again after Freljord was founded which was I believe more than 7000 years ago, unless world was in catastrophic danger. In the cinematic, we see him forging a sword. That sword is likely the Infinity Edge from the game. A weapon of Legend. Women that you see that rides the boar is called Sejuani the Warmother. She is one of the 3 tribe leaders in the Freljord. Freljord is divided into 3 main societies. Lissandra's tribe, who are loyal to the Frozen Watchers (I believe this is retconned over the years but not %100), Ashe's tribe who are the rebels; and Sejuani's tribe who seek to isolate themselves from the society. The bearman that you Sejuani's tribe fighting is the Ursur, they are the followers of Volibear; giant storm god that you see in the clouds after that lightining attack that the bearman does. Ursur are shapeshifters. Volibear ordered his followers to fight Sejuani's tribe because they are searching for an artifact of Ornn, which is said to be able to create infinite food. Sejuani seeks to find that in order to fix the starvation issue her tribe suffers because of the fact that they are isolating themselves from the society. Volibear is not an "evil" god or a villain. He seeks to hide Ornn's infinite food generator artifact from Sejuani's trible because he believes if they rely on the artifact too much it will weaken the humans. World of Runeterra was nearly destroyed once but was ultimately saved. I believe Volibears goal is simply survival of the fittest so strong can live and fight. Viking guy is Olaf, I don't think he is really suppose to be there. So I'm guessing new stories will likely come up in the future explaining why he is there. But Olaf's lore is, a prophecy told him that he would peacefully die in his bed, and since Olaf is a Viking; I'm guessing he is travelling the world and fighting in order to have a glorious death. Not sure about this to be honest. Spartan looking guy you see ascending a mountain is called Pantheon. Pantheon is the god/aspect of war and was killed in battle by a Darkin. So, the god himself is dead, but aspects vessel; the human called Atreus is alive and he hates all gods and demons. He was an unwilling host to god of war and he believes that all gods are cruel and must be killed in order for mankind to prosper. The woman Atreus fights is called Leona, she is aspect/goddess of the Sun. A nice little detail is, when Atreus is fighting humans; he is not using lethal force nor his spear. He is only using light punches and shield attack in order to not kill them. As I explained before, Atreus is fighting for the sake of humans, for a greater cause against gods. That's why you see him pick up his spear only against Leona, the Aspect/Goddess. Giant light beam attack that you see hits Atreus is likely coming from Aurelion Sol. Celestial Space dragon who is called the star forger and can literally create Stars. If that is not Aurelion Sol, it could be from Zoe; aspect of Twilight. Two woman you see in the desert region are called Taliyah (Earthbender) and Kai Sa. Kai Sa due to an unfortunate incident in her childhood was trapped in the Void. She survived possibly the greatest evil that anything can encounter in Leauge of Legends universe there. Her "suit" is basically a void monster. The suit gives her powers, increased strenght, speed, reflexes, magical powers etc. But it slowly consumes and eats her. There was a story, somewhat recent that goes onto detail of Taliyah and Kai Sa's encounter. However I haven't read it myself, because of that I will not be able to go into detail in their story. But, just before Rek Sai (Giant monster) launches up, you see a quick glance between Kai Sa and Taliyah. In that moment, they both realize the foe that they are facing is too powerful and can not be beaten. That is why, Kai Sa sacrifices herself for the sake of Taliyah and her Tribe. At the end, you can see Kai Sa luring Rek Sai towards a purple light, that is the Void where Kai Sa was trapped when she was a kid. She is luring Rek Sai where it came from because she knows she survived Void once, and can do it again. Edit: I will correct some inaccuracies here and there If somebody points it out.

Just answering a small question you asked during the first ceremony. You were wondering why there was 6 players on each sides. Yes the game is 5v5, but during the world championship, you are allowed to have 1 substitute. I think the rules change here and there, but for that year in particular you could have 6 players registered.

you can play league but i would say play with friends vs bots for awhile. you know how people are about if you arent playing the best how they go crazy. also 2014 worlds is another one you can watch. kinda the one that started it all. oh side note each worlds they said takes about 10 months of planning and building so thats why 2020 had spots that wasnt so great or felt rushed (you know covid). on the call 2 scene are stories going on right now. the 3rd is assumed to be a upcoming story. yea riot has comics (done by marvel) and i think you can call them web comics so if you want more than just back stories there are current stories to read.

Well, not exactly. Some teams even have up to 10 players (Invictus Gaming or ThunderTalk this year). The actual average in the LPL is 7,5 players per team! And some subs can only play 1-2 roles so if they play a game the rest may adapt to it. That's why top teams have more subs each year to the point where they have one sub per role. Also usually they only play when someone is injuried, ill or underperforming but we have seen situations where they're switched all year long and both have high-level performance as we saw with Faker and Easyhoon back in the days in SKT.
