Sci-fi combat animation peaked with Macross Plus. I don't think we will ever see another movie like it.
@paulomocha80428 ай бұрын
Almost true. Shinichiro Watanabe played an important role in the scene breakdown and the spacial air combat design. But don't forget he has done another great jobs in Cowboy Bebop and Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway. He is always being serious in the air combat scene and the style becomes his signature which is distinguishable from other directors.

Not really. Macross Plus was terrific but there have been greater sci-fi combat animations since. For example Gundam 00, specially the second season, has incredible combat animations. And if you want airplane-based animations Yukikaze has some amazing air combat sequences. And like that others.

Vestron Vulture absolutely rocks. They're the only artist I can just press shuffle on and only skip one or two songs in an hour.
That scene in CGI where the ENTIRE Earth Defense Grid is lighting up to intercept Isamu gives me chills every time.

There's something about 90s mecha anime of this type. I'm thinking specifically of Macross but also Gundam the 8th MS team. The mechanical design overall, but really just giving a physical sense of how the machinery and the world works in attention to small details like munitions and the actual piloting of the craft. We've seen this more recently with stuff like Gundam UC0096 and Gundam Hathaway.

I was lucky enough to be alive when this kind of animations was premiered. Man animation today is good but not as epic as the ones in the past. Will we ever see animations like this again? answer to that is - if they blow out billions of cash then maybe. Animations today are soooooooooooooooooo expensive that even a music video costs millions in this level of quality.
@theothertonydutch8 ай бұрын
It was so good because stuff like this was so rare and hard to find. One of the first DVD's I bought was Ghost in the Shell, soon followed by Akira. This was in the late 90's or early 2000's when I had some sort of disposable income. I watched the shit out of those movies. Every frame, every shot, etc. I can dream them.

My dude, that's my favorite gundam series, because it's the ONLY series THAT USES THE RADIO. "Gato, can you hear me? Gato, I know you can hear me, tune to 5.82" Gato REACHES OVER, AND TUNES THE RADIO, "I'm listening, punk" Every other series has the pilots in a dialogue battle with the enemy pilot of the jump, like there aren't encrypted or secured com lines in a piece of military hardware that can drop a colony on the earth lol and when Kou gets the GPO1fb, and takes her out for that first test run.... MAAAAAAANNNN..... ❤❤❤❤😂😂😂

Apparently The Vision of Escaflowne was supposed to be a spinoff of Macross. I can definitely see some similarities with the way the Guymelefs are operated in the show, especially Escaflowne.
@Phyllion-2 ай бұрын
Not exactly, it was from a non-Macross related concept that eventually became the basis for Macross Plus, and then going back to that original concept, Escaflowne was made. But yeah, that is indeed where the similarities in mechanical design comes from.

Stupid question, when cutting this video how did you get the background sound effects so crisp. What do you usually use for editing.
@hanahakiblank5 ай бұрын
Not a stupid question at all! Usually, I replace the sounds if they contain music or voice. However, I've recently started using AI to extract the sounds. Since I'm an IT engineer, I created a program for this purpose. For editing -> Sony Vegas Pro

I don't mind the idols too too much, but yeah, Macross should focus more on the epic sci-fi than idol fanboy pandering. Macross II definitely had the right idea if you ask me.
