One of my favourite anime’s of all time, love the music. The extended movie version of this film, last fight scene against Sharon Apple was amazing especially the music. Wish they would bring out decent blu-ray or 4k version.

Dude. It might be the best thing I ever watched. I saw Macross: Do you remember love? First, and I thought it was pretty good, but this is on a whole different level. I couldn’t dream up a better film. The pilot rivalry, AI themes, love interest, being neural linked to the plane, wow just wow. And the visuals are incredible. It did take me four hours to watch it because of the Japanese audio and subtitles though 😂

Welcome to the Macross universe. Go watch Macross Do You Remember Love? next. then Macross Zero, then Macross 7 and Dynamite 7, then Frontier, and lastly Macross Delta all of it is one big time line. the order based on the time line is Zero, Original TV show and Do you Remember Love?, Plus, 7, Dynamite 7, Frontier, Delta really watch it all in order of the time line if you can. as they each build on each other after Plus. Zero you can watch any where since it came later as prequeal to the original I have Plus both movie and OVA on the orginal MANGA DVD's everything else i have in fan sub. i have seen Plus, DRYL and Frontier movies on a movie screen

Same. I still have the VHS in a box in a closet somewhere. Had to mail order it. Sent a postal money order hoping I didn't get ripped off. Got it 2 weeks later. Those were the days.

@jinchuu04 we have a shop where I live.....been open for about 60 years....that imported a lot of anime...Manga and gunpla. I went in there to get macross II and the employee told me I needed to wait a few months until plus came out. I bought the first 2 episodes of II anyways...bought Plus later on....he was right....

I remember back in the golden era of anime my dad brought me this from a market store along with Akira, Blood The Last Vampire and Ninja Scroll, absolute peak 👌 I still think 80s and 90s OVA’s just hit differently compared to todays Anime 🫡

Completely agree! Add Cowboy Bebop movie, Patlabor 2, Roujin Z as well for me. Watched Blood in year 2000 as I finished high school so it gives me such nostalgia 😊

Now Imagine watching it on VHS as an impressionable teenager. I had that movie set to the earth Reentry scene in the 3rd act just as the Information high kicks in so whenever I wanted to watch it that is where it would start. (for those of you who don't know, you had to rewind VHS tapes after every watch to start the movie over and that could take a few minutes and if you were really unlucky the tape could get mangled) Good times.

The Movies tend to be 'Alternate Versions' of the Series/OVAs; sometimes the variations are minor, sometimes they're... not. On an unrelated note, catch the two (and a quarter, if you include Labyrinth of Time, which you should.) Frontier Movies; there will be a special cameo towards the end of the second.

Now watch the four part version, it starts off with action that shows izumis character up front and songs that aren't in the movie version; Also a different music arrangement.

I saw Macross Plus in theaters a couple years ago when it was airing here in the US. It's a great movie and I'm glad you got to see it in theaters. I've seen both the OVA and movie version, and while the OVA does give you that extra action in the beginning that you mentioned I'd overall say I prefer the movie for what it adds to the third act. Macross is pretty straight forward to get into, just watch it in release order. It's all one timeline and not nearly as large of a franchise as something like Gundam. You've just got 4 TV anime, 6 films, and a handful of OVAs. The original series, Do You Remember Love?, and Macross Frontier are the other highlights outside of Plus, but imo it's definitely worth it to watch everything. My personal favorite entry is the Macross 7 Dynamite OVA, but don't watch that if you haven't seen Macross 7.

I remember catching the Macross Plus miniseries on IFC in the mid 90s. I was a big Robotech fan at the time and was aware of the first series coming from Macross, so I was really excited. Really enjoyed it, too. I was also a Transformers fan. And a MechWarrior/BattleTech fan. And I liked both Macross and RoboTech. What I'm trying to say is FU HARMONY GOLD.

Classic! Those CGI segments was a cool and fascinating visual addition back when i saw it when it came out.....But now it looks a bit wonky for sure hehe. But regarding CGI in anime one can find much worse even today.

Watch all macross. They are all different though, I don’t think any of the others are similar to macross plus though. The original macross (robotech in the west) is a good story but it’s a slow burner of a show, macross 2 is ok focuses on a reporter who gets more than he bargained for, macross 7 is my favourite more of a direct sequel to the original and again kind of a slow burner, macross zero is a good prequel show. I’m watching macross frontier at the moment and I’m enjoying it

I prefer the OVA version for the better character development and extended action. The movie version made Isamu a fuccboi and Guld a maniacal murderer. Only Myung remains the same character in both versions.

Watch the OVA instead. Much better. Also add Macross Zero and Frontier to your list, in that order. Zero has a great story and Frontier has some of the best mecha battles I’ve seen in my 35 years of anime fandom.

This is from another time, the first 90s, all that came from this takes inpiration in Macross, Gundam, Eva, even Gunbuster, Ideon, or the mitic Five Star Stories. And please don'y say "the planes tramsform in mechas" It's tecnicaly correcto but is like you use an analog stick from a joystick like a game stick from a coin machine. The valkyries transforms, thats it I cheers about making your video, its a lot of effort, but feels like you are a nice guy that can make someting better than a "first impresión video" Dont know why you came to my feed, greetings from Argentina
