We have native funnelwebs in this part of Australia, including an Atrax sp., but I'm very glad to say I've never run into one. I also spent a lot of time running around in my grandparents 1/2 acre Sydney backyard as a kid (which they cleared themselves in the 40s), if I were to do it again I'd be far more careful!

That was an extraordinarily impressive rehousing! I'm only keeping fairly docile new world tarantulas, but your rehousing guides have been so helpful in teaching how to interact with the more skittish species like my Dolichothele diamantinensis without stressing them out when they need to be moved. It seems like most keepers really push on their spiders with long straws and such, which the spider doesn't like one bit, when a gentle touch on the feet with a soft paint brush tip is all it takes to coax them along without upsetting them =)

When I first started watching tarantula videos (believe it or not, I thought learning about them would lessen or alleviate my arachnophobia….it’s helping), some postings would rile their animals into flipping over and THAT DID NOT help my fears. At. All. Then I stumbled on to Dave’s channel. I’m calm. Gentle. And I will tolerate coexisting with spiders which is as close to loving a spider as I can go at this time. I have been looking at perhaps getting a jumping spider but then I remember that may be a responsibility I’m not ready for. Just yet. 🙂 but now I find them really interesting and creatures that dare I say, quite exotically beautiful.

They are huge lol. I live in Brisbane, Australia and not far from where I live we have the Northern Tree Dwelling Funnel Web (Hadronyche formidabilis). They are the largest we have in Australia , body length 40 - 50mm long, and there is a bit of arguing, but it seems to be the most toxic / potent of our Aussie funnel webs, and in the top 2 or 3 dangerous in the world. The Japanese cousin is pretty darn big too by the looks and every bit as scary! Thanks for the videos and letting us be a part of your fascinating world 😀

I have only worked with non-medically significant spiders because of the speed the medically significant ones have. It is faster than these old hands can move and eyes can see! It is this speed that makes me have fear, not the actual venom. Watching you move this very fast and notoriously cranky spider (even when you were being so very gentle, yours postured, which surprise me! Cranky lady!) with aplomb, and it went well, I know that it is possible to own one myself. I need to be relaxed like I am with my a. Avicularia, each of mine being quirky and different, but sweet. ❤ I can think of them all in the way, eventually, that I regard my hundreds of Pholcus phalangioides in the house. 😊 Inspiring video - thank yo🌻🕸

I have a quite strong case of arachnophobia and I don’t really understand why, because I know that the spiders I encounter in my house are at least as afraid of me as I am of them. I managed to teach myself to coexist with the skinny cellar spiders at home but never the giant house spiders we have here in the UK. So when I came across your one of your videos I thought I watch it to see how much I can bear it. And now I am hooked or trapped in the spider web, so to speak. Your calm demeanour and explanations and the great camera work make it so fascinating that I watched already quite a few videos. And have now subscribed. Thank you for your videos.
