Congrats TJ. Great to see you have an OG ZX Spectrum 48K at long last, and an amazing gesture by a member of the Spectrum community to gift it to you. I got a ZX Spectrum 48K as a Christmas present in 1984. Literally my only present that year as those things weren't cheap at £149. Which in 1984 was a LOT of money!! I was so happy to receive my 1st home computer at 11 years old. I'd been teaching myself BASIC coding on the school BBC B computer from aged 8, and had been badgering my parents about a home computer since then. I was saving pocket money to buy myself a ZX81, but then was blown away when I got the Spectrum for Christmas. I remember loading up my first game, Jet Pac by Ultimate Play the Game (who I later worked for albeit in their later incarnation, Rare), and upon removing the tape from the tape player, my mum shouted "No, you'll lose the game". Of course I replied and told my mum the computer has a memory, and the game is stored safely within it, whilst I removed the tape. Suffice to say JetPac still worked after removing the tape from the tape player lol I sold my OG ZX Spectrum when I upgraded to a ZX Spectrum +3, and then around '86 I bought myself an Atari ST. The +3 was used for a while after, but of course I ended up transitioning to the Atari ST full time eventually, and learnt to code in 68000 assembly. I still have my +3, Atari ST and in fact many retro computers and games consoles. I did end up buying a new rubber key 48K spectrum later on to replace the one I sold years before. I also bought an Amstrad CPC 464 + green CRT monitor, and manged to acquire a Commodore Vic-20, Commodore 64, Amiga A500 plus lots of games, from a friend who's father had passed. My wife wishes I'd get rid of all my retro stuff, but there's no chance lol. Aside from my OG Spectrum which I sold to get the +3, I never sell my old retro computers / consoles, which is probably why I've around 37 computers / consoles and all the software, with hardware spanning from the early 80's up to the present day with the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X games consoles etc.

Hi TJ! I have recently discovered your channel, and over the past few days I have watched a bunch of your videos. I can't express how much I enjoy your enthusiasm, comedy and humor on your videos. It really is a breath of fresh air to see someone doing what they love, for the right reasons, and knowing that they enjoy what they are doing. This was a really cool unboxing, and from what I have seen, I don't think that this could go to a better person. I'm in the US as well, and while I have known about the zx spectrum for a few decades, I have never seen one here. Just wasn't popular, and sold here very little, or not at all. However, I have been regaining interest myself as of late, and I think with the new retro games version on the way, more people in the USA will check it out. I think from now on, we should refer to you as the US ambassador to all things Sinclair! : ) I've been greatly enjoying the channel and look forward to more videos to come.

Thanks for giving my channel a chance and watching some of my videos. I like that US Ambassador of Speccy, lol! I also consider getting a The Spectrum too. Just have to wait and see of the budget permits me to do it. Enjoy yours if you buy one.

🤣🤣🤣I'll be messaging you as soon as I 'Hit' the 'Did I stop recording this video?' button 🤣. Great video again TJ! You now are the owner of the original 48k rubber keyed Speccy 🤩I am very envious. I've owned the 48K and 48K+ models which came after this with the plastic keys and then the 128K which I also loved. I've never owned the original rubber key version though which you now do - Enjoy TJ Ferreira - Love the t-shirt by the way 🌈⌨💻👍

Congratulations on getting an original Speccy at last! Mine went years ago, but I'll make do with a "The Spectrum" later this year. I'm a Next owner as well, but I can't resist the feel of the old (well, new, I guess 🙂) rubber keyboard once again. 😀

@@MacSociety the ZX Interface 1 = the peripheral that TJ hols at 11:50 in the video which allow the Speccy to use micro drives (small tape cartridges) and networking via serial port that looks like a joystick port at the rear of the IF1 :) Yeah, you can connect in a ring network several Speccys !!!

My first one was a rubber keyboard Spectrum 48k. I had the overlay for Elite it made it a lot easier to play. One thing I got for all of my Spectrums is the ZX-HD HDMI interface I use it on many ZX Spectrums and clone ones. Its not as cheap as a SCART lead and the audio does not come out of the TV. Therer is a good chance yours is a PAL one.

i had (and have had several ) 48k rubber key as my very first computer i had to do jobs (paper round putting stalls out down the market at 5am every Saturday ) to get the money together a whopping £129 of the queens pounds and i had to save up another £15 for a bush tape player to get it going wonderful hours on my black and white portable playing with this thing ..and to save money i would buy magazines and type in over many hours the code for what turned out to be terrible games , there was the odd good one i could save on tape then copy to tape to sell for a pound at school i also pirated "daly Thompsons decathlon " by connecting my portable cassette player to my dads music centre , sold about twenty of them
