I notice you mounted the powered portion of the Smart Sensor to the door. This seems like it would be less than optimal. Whenever the door opens, the motion detection would cover a different area. I would think you would want the powered portion on the wall, with the magnet detecting open or close on the door. In addition, how far away does the magnet work for detection of open/close? This might be really important for things like garage doors, where you can't get the magnet that close to the garage door. Another important consideration would be how quickly do these detect motion? Does it give a very quick response, which would be useful for turning on lights as you enter a room, or does it take several seconds. In addition, any info from UI on if they will support Matter/Thread going forward, so that this might interoperate with other devices? At this price point, they will need to be quite good, or other existing solutions will have stronger feature sets.

Minor correction. CO, not CO2. Carbon monoxide is far more dangerous, while CO2 is all over the place, so thank God it isn't. But yes, the product page shows it listens for fire and carbon monoxide alarm patterns found in standard fire alarms in houses and aparments.

When will unifi do a compete alarm system!???? I have most but will have to go to ADT for alarm and this is nuts. As want to use unifi for all
@Dwigt_Rortugal8 ай бұрын
This is kind of a head-scratcher for me. I have Unifi Protect with several cameras, and I love the system, but this seems half-baked. I want something turnkey with monitoring built-in, and this all-in-one sensor thing seems to raise the price point when you're only going to use 2-3 functions on each. I use several contact sensors - $59 each, And then you have to home brew monitoring? Maybe I don't understand. Now, if someone implements an affordable LoRa security system with monitoring, that'll get my attention.

Would be super cool if they added an option for the motion detection, where if your phone is not active on the wifi and motion is detected, it will send a push notification with a picture from the associated camera. So you can add Mac address groups, say you, kids, wife etc. And if none are present the house "Arms" and will not send notifications from a select group of sensors, like inside the house. But still from outside if its after dark etc.

Great informative video thanks. Im in the unifi eco system here in the uk. I think unifi have the alarm side of thing’s missing in their protect range. This may be a start of things to come. What I’d love to see is the ability to use existing wiring from the main alarm panel to the sensors into any new protect sensor. In which case if unifi came up with their own fully integrated protect alarm system. The user could simply remove the old panels and sensors and replace with the unifi system. Have an Ethernet connection from panel to UDM…. And you have a fully integrated alarm system in Protect.

Thanks Cody! Really appreciate the initial review. Curious what you will think in a few weeks. To me it raises a lot of questions about why Ubiquiti decided to package all of the sensors into one. I guess it's meant for alerting you of things when you aren't home. Maybe as a prompt to check your video feeds. It is very similar to the Ecobee Smart Sensor which I love... but more because it shuts off my AC when windows are open. Curious if they will add triggerable events. And as Christian also pointed out, yes the "Alarm" is to detect an alarm. If your smoke alarm goes off and you aren't home, it will let you know.

Hi MN. Love your cover of the UI systems, it has help me a lot. Regarding the smart sensor, can it be used as a “normal” alarm system? We need a new alarm system at my workplace, and this might be it. But I can’t find any information on if you can use it as a regular alarm system. So, when we come to work and unlock the door with UI access, the alarm is turnoff. And when we leave and lock the door, we will receive notification if some one is inside the area where the sensors cover. There is a video in this if it can, because no one has covert that side of the sensor/system.
