This was truly an amazing machine that should've sold brilliantly. Every aspect of it was carefully thought out and polished thoroughly. It's a shame it had to be discontinued before Apple intended :/ It was Steve Job's baby.

What the flying fuck? The design is horrible for 2019 standards. It is too big, won't be compatible with any other standards and would be stupid to carry around. You are the definition of an Apple consumer. Buying bullshit products for bullshit prices, thinking the design is amazing.

I've never been able to get used to the way Jobs pronounced 'component.' Anyway, this machine has one of the greatest design aesthetics of any computer ever built. I'm mainly a Windows guy, and this was the first Apple product that ever made me jealous.

You may laugh about it having only 1.5Gb RAM but my first computer was a Honeywell 512 mainframe, with teletype daisywheel printer, binary input and had the grand total of 512 Kb RAM!! And that computer ran the payroll, VAT and accounts departments for the whole of the National Coal Board in the UK from 1972 to 1977. It was a bit like working with HAL from 2001

This was real innovation for the time. It's still a incredible feat from apple in the year 2000. Sad that it didn't catch on too well, until the mac mini came along.

Apples design and style has always been years ahead of everyone else. I got my first iMac in 1998, still runs to this day perfect just like when I bought it. I remember when this came out and I wanted to upgrade to the Cube lol.

"Apple promising that it will be "reborn" in another form at a later date, Its widely accepted that the Mac mini computer was its successful replacement." I'm not so sure the Mac Mini was its replacement, I think the new 2013/2014 Mac Pros are it's replacement. Instead of an 8" cube, they are an 8" cylinder.

I agree, the basic essential architecture has finally come to pass. I have two Cubes, I think they're very elegant... but, they were expansion limited and so are the new Mac Pros.

I still have the G4 Cube I built when I worked at Apple (Elk Grove, California), I’ve really been thinking of busting it out. This was the computer that made me appreciate Apple and the Macintosh, the G4 Cube and OSX just blew me away. Even though I worked at Apple I didn’t care for their products very much until I saw the G4 Cube and OSX. Still to this day it is my favorite computer of all time.

Gotta love the late 90s and early 2000s designs that came from Apple. Someone at my grandpa's office had one of these things. It's probably still one of the coolest things Apple released.

It's an amazing system and feat of engineering but you hear those "pretend/you have to act like your impressed" responses when Steve mentioned the price @ around 6:43. 1799 for a base price is damn expensive. Would have been nice for someone in the crowd to say WTF!

This was a very neat idea. I think this is the direction where they eventually wanted to take their Pro products, given the design of the new Mac Pro coming out this year. Sadly, this idea was ahead of it's time. It was too expensive and overheated too easily.

Could someone tell me how the Mac Mini compares to this Mac Cube? (Like if the cube were brought back in the current Intel era; like the "Mac Pro Intel Cube") I think the cube looks better, but it looks like the Mini is better to haul around if you have, say, a collection of peripherals at home, and a collection of peripherals at your beach house, and you can just put the Mini in your carry on luggage (just my view on things).

Simon Tgtmr No, because they took was what in the tower design (power mac g4, mac pro) and put it in a smaller and quieter design (g4 cube, 2013 mac pro) its not about the technology, its about the idea.

It's great to see such innovative and space saving design revisited for the new Mac Pros, though it is highly disappointing to see even the Mac Pros be turned into machines that are not made to be truly upgradeable beyond the RAM and storage.

finally, the Jobsian vision of an ultra-powerful fanless computer is truly available in the M1. It would be trivial to make an M1 Cube today that could surpass many contemporary desktop computers. In a sense, the Macbook Air M1 is the product of that vision. Fanless, compact, high-performance computing.

Still have it, still receives all incoming faxes for the company (so it's sleeping in a corner of the office every day). This thing is 12 years old now and hasn't complained once. Still with the original screen, keyboard, speakers and mouse. BOOM.

@MrFigmentofi why would it keep popping it back out by itself? All the macbooks/imacs i have used, whenever the optical drive was defective, it would do exactly that. Plus look at Steve's face when it happened 2 times to him.. his face went a little red.

Are you talking about the iPhone 4S? I havee it too! White - 64GB but is 800MHz not a full 1 GHz but the iPad 2 and 3 are :)
