I once went to buy parts off this 19 year old hillbilly kid, they were dirt poor, but good people. They had about an acre off scrapyard and poison ivy to their name, hah, so whenever i needed some parts or scrap steel, if they had it id buy it off him. He had this lemony old dirtbike project i helped him get going, ended up teaching him how to properly diagnose stuff, since he was too poor to just throw parts at it. Anyway, their landlord ended up kicking them out for having too much yard art, and as they were leaving he was like, he thanks for all the help, here's a frozen up old husky concrete saw. I call it my light saber, lol. For when the sawzall isnt enough. (At work we always called the sawzall "plan z" like if plans a through y didnt work, lol)

That thing is bad ass. I love your channel. What you can do about your shifter as I’ve seen on some ice you put a counter weight on it like a 1“ x 3“ x 5“ weight on the other side of the shifter, so that will not fall in the gear.

Yes a spring connected to the dash to hold the shifter up. With the right tension it should still stay in gear.

Next time you do another long time sittin start you gotta ask Ole peg leg for some Cosby sauce. They love the Ole Cosby sauce. To fix the shifter issue you could use a spring that helps it stay up mounted to the body holding it up slightly so it stays in the neutral spot.

I’d do a remote shifter to solve that problem. Just use a heim joint mounted to a base, and some flat stock to the shift tower. Thats how I made a shifter in my 53 Chevy car, much much shorter but the concept would be the same. Obviously the 1/4 inch flat bar I used would be a little weak so maybe some rebar? Or thicker metal.
@lds2795
@lds2795 5 ай бұрын
I second this for a shifter two hemi joints on a peace of flat stock to connect to the shifter and a ball joint on the floor with a peace of stock for the remote shifter sounds like it would work just fine. I just suggest you keep the mounting point on the one in the cab adjustable so you can find your sweat spot for reducing binding.

About the shifter....it's really simple to move the lever back, google "volvo speedshift" and you should find examples of an original accessory from the 60's. That particular one is made to shorten the lever, as well as the throw, but the basic design still applies to your build

You should have made it to where the front fenders in the cab were all where they supposed to be like a normal and then instead of trying to lengthen the hood you should have put a little tiny truck bed on the back of the station wagon eat a head like the biggest super cab short box

The only logical way to shorten the shifter linkage is to add a second engine. Mount another v8 in tandem with the first and link them together. The transmission will be further back on the frame and wint require the linkage being super long

Weld a rod to the side of the shifter, running into the cab of the vehicle, then weld it to a ball joint threaded rod, then weld the press inside of the ball joint to the floor of the vehicle, so it allows the rod to pivot around, then welded a vertical pieceto the end of the rod at the ball joint and put a shift knob on that
@ardennielsen3761
@ardennielsen3761 5 ай бұрын
if their was a steel roll pin welded to the shifter arm that another rod could be bolted to as it has tabs on one end, so it can hinge forward and back not going into gears tho when pushed side to side it binds thus pushing it from R'1 to 2'3 to 4'5 etc. then leading the bar end along the transmission as long as it needs to be so that in seat it can be held in hand, another tab is welded on that far side in the same axial rotation of the front roll pin "bushing". as to continue an old ball joint that is still somewhat solid tho loose can be welded to a plate section of heavy steel and the leftover of the shifter arm welded to the ball joint stud, so that the base plate is bolted to a solid point such as case bolts of the transmission including extending the base plate into angle iron if it is somewhat far as to the end bar location where it is best handed... then the other roll pin is attached to the mounted relocated shifter arm, the height of the shifter pivot changes the throw length of the in and out gear motion. next to imposable to get anyone to do anything, its like they need to copy ones that have already been physically constructed and they travel 10k miles over the sea to see it just to guess how it works because their is a shroud over it. need to know, don't need to know... V636 CAT 3208 in a car and not get pulled over via looking at it and saying, oh no... active tags and all of it.

Thing I was thinking about for your shifter. I don’t know how you go about doing it, but it’s an idea is like Make gated shifter so you can hang the shifter on 💁🏼‍♂️🤔🤔💯🎯🎯🎯 it dropping out of gear or going into some other gear words it will prevent it from popping out or popping in. That’s my two cents.

Just make a shifter that throws like a normal 5 speed or whatever it is and run a straight bar to the shifter at the trans. Maybe just a bar on a heim joint in the floor you shift. Run it to a short throw sort of setup on the trans with a solid bar. That way it emulates the shifter in the car. That would get rid of your extra weight since its mounted solid to the floor
