@Allison Bauch I second the motion! I grew up in the 1960's and 70's, could have gone to school with Don and Betty's children. What surveillance existed then was a tiny fraction of what there is now. Part of her anger at Dick is that a chunk of her life and all of their children's is based on his lies. She wants to protect their children. That's a big part of it. The other part is that there's still enough love there between them that neither wants to see the other actually harmed or destroyed. She's moved on enough in her life that she can let go of some of her most intense feelings and perhaps the same is true of him. Still, it's more about the preservation of the "Draper" myth for her and the kids that motivates her -- at least at this point in their relationship.

One of the most remarkable things I notice that Jon Hamm manages this in several seasons throughout the show, is he blushes or his face turns red on command. And not in a "he's screaming so hard his face turns red," a character will say something to him, and he will just sit there, staring back and stewing, and you watch his face change color as the emotion starts rising up. Genuinely impresses me every time.
@SomeBF3 жыл бұрын
His facial capacities were amazing; I saw someone point out how his entire demeanour sinks and softens when he’s becoming Dick Whitman. One of the many reasons why I love this show so much is the many layers of the characters. Consider Betty, for instance. Childish, feckless, vindictive, petty, vain... but in this situation something clicks in her head and she recognizes that "this is not a time to fuck around" and she becomes immediately protective, responsible, loyal, kind, altruistic and genuine. She does this because the situation is so "special" and the stakes are so large that it isn't time to play around with her usual bullshit... she can be an adult when she needs to be, and over and over on this show, when a moment comes that she needs to be the most responsible person in the room, she takes on this air of dignity and does what is the right thing. It is when the stakes are low and she's left to her own devices that she is an awful person. But this? When the survival and freedom and reputation of her ex-husband, who she is angry with, is threatened, she is ON IT.

The best acting is in the series finale. When Don calls Peggy on wards till the end of the episode, his acting is absolutely amazing. If you followed the show and really got a hold of the character seeing him act how he did was vastly different from his normal self. He did it so genuinely that it felt more real than anything I've honestly ever seen before. He didn't have to say anything and perfectly showed the intense emotions. Everyone should watch it.

K2 Mally although Don Draper's personal life was a well manicured mess, he was at the top of his professional game. Don is the classic narcissist. Whenever someone is on to his false identity and it drags bystanders like Betty into lying for him he gets indignant ("Sorry for inconveniencing you") when it's his deception that's in the wrong. Basically Don Draper is actually named Dick Whitman, he served in the army and took the real Don Drapers name when he got out. He's always worried he'll get in shit for it.

+1mijaz have you seen mad men? don draper is not his real identity. the real don draper died in korea during the war. betty knows this. he is terrified when she tells him the government is looking into him because he thinks he's going to get caught. he also gets paranoid when she says "i dont even know if we should be talking about this over the phone" and he starts playing it up like everything is perfectly fine just in case anyone is listening. he thanks betty at the end for having his back, giving him the heads up even though they don't have the best relationship. that's why this scene is so awesome.
