Thank you! I never thought I'd ever love a roach as much as I do. I grew up in south Texas and as we all know everything bigger there and the includes the roaches so I had an awful phobia of them growing up. Fast forward to a last week I go back to Texas to visit family for Christmas and took my kids to the science museum where they had hissing cockroaches for sale. My oldest just had to have one and I was not feeling it but I finally caved and let her get one on the condition she kept it away from me. But as soon. As we got home and started setting up his enclosure I mustered up my courage and picked him up to transfer to his new home and I immediately fell in love.

Dehydrated veggie mixes from imported gourmet instant noodles(hell no they don’t get my noodles) Random leftovers Protein and multivitamin blends(of course chocolate. On the subject of water. Sponges, as a general rule for any keepers of invertebrates, is a terrible idea as they can harbor bacteria which can kill off your colony. This has been general knowledge for a few years now. The best source of water for feeders so they don't drown in water dishes is water crystals. They are pretty inexpensive on ebay. Nice video btw
@ChiefSweetsUniverse8 ай бұрын
Yeah I’ve only been into inverts now about 3 years and when I got into them the amount of wrong info I got is insane haha. However I don’t even do water crytals now I just give them romaine lettuce and they stay very hydrated. No sponges needed haha. Thank you so much
@torpedoesntarantulas26918 ай бұрын
I use romaine myself. I have been keeping tarantulas for almost 10 yrs now and several years back most care videos called for sponges so critters wouldn't drown. People didn't know. But now we do. I use water crystals as well as oranges and romaine. Every few days I rehydrate the water crystals which causes splashing on the sides. I've seen then drink from that. Either way they stay hydrated and safe and healthy. Happy keeping!

I just realized something about these roaches, and it's quite funny The way they hiss is by forceing air through their spiracles which are also the same holes they use to breathe We also Force air through our nose and mouth when hyperventilating So the hissing sound made by play cockroach is essentially their version of hyperventilating, which is something I would also do if I were about to be eaten by a lizard

Hello! Would it be okay to use reptisoil by zoo med says “a special blend of peat moss, soil, sand and carbon” I saved a mhc from a little feeder container at petco there were two in the container and the one was dead already so I felt bad and bought her bc I knew she was going to just died there. I know people keep them as pets I keep my house around 70-73 so I don’t have a heating pad idk if that okay I think it is. Been feeding carrots and dark greens. She has a little water bottle in there too. I mist her everyday.

No do not release them otherwise they will go and breed and you will have even more. What you should do is separate all the males and females into two tanks. Then they will not reproduce anymore and will all reach there full life cycle in two years.

We have around 200 hissing roaches and discovered clumps of mites on them all over the head legs and back and on some lesser infected ones you can see tiny white mites running around. You can't even wash them off and when we looked closely in the container, there where some dead roaches in there with thousands of mites on them, so we cleaned everything out. It also looks like the mites kill the roaches or they at least die because of them. All 3 enclosures we have now have mites :( It sadens me to tears cause my girlfriend and me love them so much. Do you have any idea, what i can do to get rid of them, i don't want to loose our cute hissers? I tried the flour method on some of them but I'm not 100% sure if that did the trick. Thx a lot in advance mate and thx for the interesting video. Ray
