Pinkerton’s reply, with his insistence on his love, gives her a brief moment of trust, letting her hope override her fear. This back-and-forth, where she questions and he reassures, embodies that raw, tender vulnerability that makes love so powerful and relatable.

The most sensuous, sexually charged love duet in all operas, you can feel the music slowly builds up from foreplay to an orgasmic finale. Even more evident in Karajan's recording with Freni & Pavarotti back in the 70s, the music crescendo and ebb after the cymbal crash, just like post climax breathing.

@@jeremybrown9824 I just listened to Scotto sing Butterfly in '86, albeit towards the end of her career, and her Buterfly's entrance is truly shocking, breathy, pitchy and no attempt at the high D crescendo. I also then listened to her singing the love duet, a black and white piece of film so I'm guessing her prime years, and again, awful, pitchy with a weak and feeble crescendo that's like something I'd expect to see in a provincial production. How anybody could listen to that, then Jaho, who is pitch perfect from the time she walks onto the stage until the curtain call, and who floats and hits notes with warble-less perfection, such beauty of voice, is unfathomable to me. I think Scotto and Tebaldi are the two most overrated sopranos in opera history.
@Caruso_is_king2 жыл бұрын
Heard Domingo in the house often. Beautiful timbre but strained high notes and often flat. Young Scotto was great but her voice lost its sheen pretty quickly until she had a wobble a mile wide. Not everything modern is bad and not everything was as you remember it.

CC works! She basically says that in America, she hears that they stick a pin through a butterfly and stick it to a board (absurd concept to her). Then the guy says that they do it so it won't fly away. Get it? *Even the butterfly's want to get out of America* but Americans will kill the little beauty there is there. (NOTE: The butterfly stuff is really about the false Christianity that claims a third of Americans, but addressing that topic would be be far too lengthy. The truth is the bad seed world wide was cast away to America long ago. If this was not, Europe would not be civilized. America is a refuse for criminals and heretics which all countries cast their bad seed - and yes this includes Africa, all the way to Cuba, to Russia, to South America. These countries cast them out. This concept is implied in many, many British movies until this day if you know what to look for.)

Comments here are a classic example of mimetic learning. Opera “is considered” sophisticated and memorable, so we nod and agree. Opera was the TV of the 19th century. @markdrinkwater15086 жыл бұрын
Just watched and listened to Opolais sing Butterfly at the Met, it is very poor, how you can think that it in anyway comes even close to Jahos Butterfly is a total mystery to me. She has no power, totally drowned out by the tenor Roberto alagna, she has no real range, her ending to the love duet is 2nd rate with no top note and no ability to hold the limited top note that she has. Listen to Jahos Butterlfy from Teatro Real Madrid last summer, then you will realsie that no soprano in the world can touch Jaho in this role.
@buenvendor6 жыл бұрын
@@markdrinkwater1508 I was at the MET and believe me, by the end of the performance there was not a single dry eye in the audience. To me opera is not about perfect range or technique. It is all about emotions and Mrs. Opolais is a powerhouse to me, a fantastic singer with incredible acting skills and unparallel beauty. As for Alagna, he had never sang the role but had to walk into the production after Kaufmann cancelled. He was a bit off and loud at times which wasn't Kristine's fault anyway.
@markdrinkwater15086 жыл бұрын
I hear you, but i still say that in no way can Kristines Butterfly compete in any way with Jaho. I saw jahos Butterfly in London then I flew from London all the way to New York in April this year to sea it again at the Met, where again she brought the house down. Her voice filled the Met and it was a triumph. I don't fly 3,000 miles for any old singer, Jaho is special and puts every ounce of her soul into her performance, leaving her and the audience drained at the end of it. I agree that it isn't about perfect range, Jaho has her critics regards her voice, but it is widely acknowledged that her acting in Butterfly is unsurpassed. For me an Opera singer needs to be able to act and maybe Kristine carried it off, but from what i heard, or didn't hear, her Operatic vocal delivery is lacking for a big role like Butterfly, and I am not that blown away by the sound of her voice either. Jahos voice is not the biggest in the world, but the way she uses it and projects it in an Opera house at the key moments is amazing, her sound is truly beautiful and she gets to the supposed notes everytime, totally on key, perfect pitch and with a mighty power for what is by all accounts is not the biggest soprano in the world.

Wow. Look at all that acting. 🙁✋Naturalism in opera. Now, please. I’m making an animatic for my role where he is slowly removing her clothes. To me a big part of what is happening is seduction, it is strongly suggested by this music and why she suddenly pulls away, full of fear. I also dislike the use of yellow face. I have yet to see it applied correctly, accurately or sensitively and it is insulting. Furthermore who in Hell wears full geisha makeup to bed?! She has her nightie on. Finally, Pinkerton says he doesn’t like too much artifice in his women. He disproves of her makeup. Ergo, she would not be wearing makeup in this scene, it goes against logic and the text.
