I've noticed a lot of younger people tend to only understand music videos with really straightforward visuals. They find it very hard to understand artistic visuals like this. It's strange. It's like people no longer know how to have fun and be silly anymore. Everything has to be straight to the point.

Ray of Light is absolutely my favorite album. Every track is superb. It was really a pivotal moment for her, i believe. The combined experiences of motherhood and her Kabbala studies helped inform some of her finest lyrics. And post-Evita, she definitely had more confidence vocally...using her voice in ways she maybe previously didn't feel she was capable of. Love this video! Def one of the "weird" ones, which are always my favorite.

I would love to see you react to her albums in full! I would definitely say start from the beginning like you did with the music videos. I love this song! Always have, I actually have a really fond memory of my sister doing that dance down the corridor in our house when I was kid, she was bringing me my easter egg but decided to tease me with this back and forth style dancing. Woman of a thousand looks. She totally transforms seemingly daily 😅the video style is so unique it just makes you watch with random camera movements. She performed this live invoking the same look and “bags” of water for some of her dancers 😉

I got to a deeper and fuller appreciation of Madonna’s music and artistry, by putting it into the context of her life experience and inspirations. I learned to take her music not as a stand alone but in a fuller context that’s more impactful and meaningful. As in most of her music, she also incorporates influences from other art forms, music genre, and layering of messages and themes-specially with her music videos and live tour versions. This piece was from her 1998 Ray Of Light (ROL) album-an era that was a turning point in her life and career when she was deep into a spiritual journey into Eastern mysticism (Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism/Kabbalah, and Ashtanga yoga) in search of answers about life and her career. She also got the gift of motherhood in 1996 which she had longed for. All these changed her perspective about life, her career and influenced most of the songs from ROL. The sequel to this piece is Paradise Not For Me from her 2000 Music album. In both songs, she incorporated the influence of Japanese art forms, culture and the spirituality of Zen Buddhism. Appreciate you covering the music and artistry of Madonna.
