John Deacon on bass...quietly underrated. Watch Liar live for a great bass solo. Stone Cold Crazy live is another must see.

Early Queen from the first 3 albums is a completely different band. It's prog rock & hard rock.

Queen were extremely heavy in the early years. Metallica were influenced by Queen.

Early Queen was definitely a lot heavier, especially their live shows. The thing is that they never really committed to any single genre or sound, However because they sounded so good across-the-board, fans of a particular genre were sometimes disappointed when they listened to an entire Queen album and discovered that, contrary to their assumption, the tracks weren't exclusively metal, prog or funk/dance

Queen had a lot of heavy songs ( for that time) like Hitman, Dead On Time, Headlong, I Want It All, Fat Bottomed Girls, White Man, Mustapha, Sheere Herat Attack...etc....and a lot more....

"Father To Son" is a song from "Side White" of their 2nd album, Queen II. which is described as Queen's heaviest album. Rather than the conventional Side A and Side B, the album was split into "Side White" and "Side Black", dominated by Brian's and Freddie's compositions. Although some have interpreted it as a concept album, it is not really a concept album but a collection of songs with a loose theme running throughout. Freddie later confirmed this in a 1976 Sounds interview, citing that "it just evolved to where there was a batch of songs that could be considered aggressive, or a Black Side, and there was a smoother side". FYI - "White Queen" is in on Side White and "The March of the Black Queen" is on Side Black. Ogre Battle” is one of Queen’s many fantasy vignettes that as the first track on Side Black of Queen II. The song opens with the outro played in reverse, which eventually evolves into the song’s signature guitar riff. It’s one of the band’s heaviest tracks and was a staple in the live shows for several years. BTW are you unaware of Queen's song, "Stone Cold Crazy" which was covered by Metallica? kzbin.info/www/bejne/imm1l5Vnf9mgn8U Queen II was considered a big leap forward for Queen. it was multifaceted and it contained varying time signatures but also charisma and bombast. They marry the complexity of progressive rock with the mainstream success and streamlined nature of pop almost perfectly. This album that only began to develop Queen's signature sound also happened to be one of their very best... perhaps their best, in fact. Make no mistake, this is a full-fledged progressive rock album. Multitracked vocal harmonies run rampant, time signatures change quite frequently, and the band's signature stylistic shifts are here in full form. First is Brian's "white" side of the album which focuses on more beautiful and light tunes, whereas Freddie's "black" side is absolutely warped, outrageously bombastic, and extremely dark. By most hardcore Queen fans, Queen II is considered above all, simply a masterpiece. The combination of instrumental prowess and emotional depth is breathtaking and to think that this was only the band's second record!

Well said, or rather written! I agree with it all. Early Queen ws, is and always will be amazing! Their heaviness, scope and creativity were breathtaking. Wish I'd seen them live between 73 and 76 or so, but I was only born in 74!

For some more early Queen consider reacting to Stone Cold Crazy, live at the Rainbow 1974. This song was covered by Metallica years later who won a Grammy for their version. Definitely a heavy speed metal song. Enjoying your reactions. Thanks for reacting to Queen!

Brian May - 1983, BBC Radio One .. “The Who & Led Zeppelin were our favorite groups among a few others. But what we were trying to do differently from either of those groups really was this sort of layered sound … our sound is sort of more based around the overdriven guitar sound, which is what is used on the main bulk of the song.”

You must do early Queen....any song from Live at the Rainbow, 1974...Flick of the Wrist, Liar, Son and Daughter (an absolute MUST), Brian's guitar solo, Roger's drum solo, the March of the Black Queen.............oh just do the whole damn concert. I goddamn adore Queen II. It's honestly my favourite album, and March of the Black Queen only comes behind Bohemian Rhapsody for favourite song. It sounds like the video you were watching was slowed down a bit/lowered, possibly to get around KZbin, but the official Queen channel has official videos (including lyric videos) and playlists for everything in their proper tempo and pitch. I strongly recommend listening to Queen II there!
