Welcome to our Newest series “Mix it up with M.A.D.CURLS”. The concept certainly isn’t new, However, it is new to our channel. In this series we will be “mixing it up”. We will be testing combinations of leave -ins with stylers. We will be checking to see if the 2 products are compatible and therefore not leave those horrible “curdles” behind. We will see how moisturizing the combination we choose will be. We will see how long it will take to dry our hair and any other factor that we Naturals look for in our hair styling products. We are excited to bring this to you guys. You have been asking for us to do this and now we are on board. Enjoy our latest content.

Hey ... just remember that leaving the deep treatment on doesn’t make it anymore effective. It’ll just irritate your scalp and mess up the ph, as well as mess up your hairs elasticity because you’re not allowing the cuticles to fully close and protect its inner cortex. Think of your scalp just like you would your face, you’re just clogging the pores by leaving treatments on for wayyyyy too long. Great video though!

What a great 👍 series. A few days ago I had emailed the Bounce Curl company to find out which leave-in conditioners pair well with their gel. Many people have an issue when combining Bounce Curl with leave-ins. They told me that Cantu’s Curl Activator works well with their gel, and Shea Moisture products. TaylorAnne, I do an apple cider vinegar rinse weekly. One part apple cider vinegar to four parts water. It’s great for the scalp. Thanks for the video ladies.

I love the results on you both and I like that you are trying new things and mixing it up! I just love that you both are always so polite sweet and genuinely care about your viewers. Gayle Friend i have tried that and the results were GREAT! I just personally like the low porosity one a TAD bit more because my hair really likes the panthenol in that product and it really does instantly melt into my hair easier than that one. One a scale of 1-10 my hair is a 1 for low porosity it does not want to accept anything lol 😅 unless I use warm water and penetrating hair products

A little apple cider vinegar mixed with water takes away my itchy scalp. I spray it on my scalp and leave it in for 20 minutes. Then I do short scalp massage in the shower before I rinse it out. My scalp stops itching and it brings my hair/scalp to a good PH balance.

As far as itching is concerned, I don't leave my conditioners in overnight anymore. You may be having an allergic reaction that you haven't identified yet. I would get the itchies and then finally had a bad breakout that required medical attention. When your scalp is burning like that, it's best to keep your products to a minimum and allow your scalp to heal. Best of luck to you.

I broke out on my neck, ears, and my scalp in the back. Those areas were so itchy and uncomfortable that I had to wash all products out and was told to not use anything until it healed. I ended up using my normal conditioner and putting my hair up so it wouldn't touch my neck. I had little bumps that were red and some looked like small blisters. Good luck and be careful!!

For itchy scalp, I use a rinse - rosemary and peppermint tea spray directly on my scalp. It’s helped immensely and it feels amazing! As a proud product junkie, I find myself mixing and matching often; although, I have yet to try Uncle Funky’s Daughter. I love Shea Moisture’s Coconut Hibiscus Curl Jelly, but this week, it flaked on me when I paired it with Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp.

As the other comments have said, it’s the clogged pores and your scalp probably needs a clarifier that completely strips the hair of anything, then an apple cider vinegar rinse on your scalp (leaving for a few minutes with a shower cap) and adding a moisturizing based Deep Conditioner a inch or 2 away from the scalp (the first inches don’t really need DC since they are so close to your scalp). You can also try Tea Tree Oil (diluted) and it helps tremendously with scalp irritation. I had an itch this morning since a styling product seeped to my scalp in that spot and applied some Tea Tree and it relieved it. I do this before styling as a primer for my scalp (like a scalp massage leaving it in) and my scalp has some sort of protection. Adding essential oils to your shampoos too can give you use and help exfoliate the scalp by sloughing off the debris irritating your scalp. This irritation to your scalp may be a contributing factor to your shedding that you mention. Most of this is truly based on my experience and how they’ve evolved overtime, sometimes I do slack I’m not gonna lie but I can fix it without really breaking the bank which I am happy with lol.

I used to have an itchy scalp ALL THE TIMES! What got rid of it was using regular drugstore shampoo (either with or without sulfate) once a week. I found that sulfate free shampoos made by natural/curly hair brands caused buildup overtime because they aren't cleansing enough. Also I use a clarifying shampoo (drugstore, with sulfates) about every 3-4 weeks. I only use a co-wash in the middle of the week if needed. My itchy scalp was definitely caused by buildup which was removed by using drugstore shampoos since they have sulfates or other stronger cleansing ingredients in their shampoos.

over doing any treatment on natural hair can mess up the pH balance of the scalp/hair. I would wash my scalp with a pH balancing product, such as apple cider vinegar or a pH balancing shampoo/conditioner to eliminate the itch/burn. Also, though it is not the case in this situation since you have used that treatment before with no side effects, I would just like to mention new products can also do that to the scalp as well. Which is why I purchase products with the first 5-10 ingredients I know my hair loves and this decreases the chances of having a bad reaction to the product.

Nice video guys!! your hair came out very nice as usual. A great tip for everyone who deep conditions and suffers from itchy scalp you want to make sure you dont apply any on the scalp because the itchyness your experiencing is most likely happening because your folicles are clogged up because conditoners are made for the hair shaft not the scalp unless its specifically designed for the scalp so I think leaving it in for two days might be too much and it causes the conditioner to melt into the scalp and stick to it.. Conditioners are designed to stick to the hair so if you get too much on the scalp its also going to stick like it does the strand. If that does happen a great solution is to lighty wash your scalp with a good shampoo and focusing on massaging the scalp.. I know how some of you feel i use to deep condition over night and my scalp would be on fire!! But after doing some research I realized I wasnt rinsing out the conditoner good enough and it was sticking to my scalp. So if your scalp is on fire after deep conditoning it most likely your scalp is trying to tell you " please get this off me I cant breathe" so i would lightly wash it first and see how it feels adding more products and oils on top of an itchy scalp can make it worse and clogg the folicle even more.. Sorry for my 4 page letter i just wanted to help lol

This is such a great idea of mixing up the brands! I personally like using the UFD curly magic on its own, A great mix you should try is the Cantu Curl Activator and the Bounce Curl light creme gel, it’s currently my favorite. Oh and always remember we don’t sw$&? we glisten😁

I have SD, seborrheic dermatitis, which means I often get itchy scalp; in between medicated shampoo (Nizoral 2%), I just use the harshest cleanser I can find on the market, which is either Pantene or Herbal Essences and that just *works* for me. I need to cleanse *well* and that means I cannot go sulfate-free or CO-wash, it flares up my condition like no other. Learned my lesson with that. I think a healthy scalp is a happy scalp, and I don't mind that I need to use a stripping shampoo at all.

That is a good result, lots of definition. I will definitely be trying that combo. I love the fact that I have those products. LOL. I love the CRN Curl Love. It smells like the Almond Jai Twisting Butter (like cake) I like to use it as a mid-week refresher with CurlMaker. Sometimes I have itchy scalp and not sure why, so I will message my scalp with Righteous Roots Essential oils for Curls Blueberry Bliss Blueberry & Mint Scalp Treatment. They both contain peppermint oil which is very soothing to the scalp. Works like a charm every time. I am like you all and have not mixed up my products to much, but I have started doing this as of late, because I may have bought a full line and did not like all of it and returned them, but kept the good and now have to pair it with something else. So that will help me to use up some of my lesser used products. BTW, I received my first order of CurMix. I got the Avocado Moisture and Gel. It smells so good, just like lemon meringue pie. I hope I remember to use it in my hair and not on a spoon. Lol. I also used the MADCURLS discount, thank you. I think this is going to be a good series. Bravo ladies.

I’ve learned to not apply anything but the cleansers/cowashes to my scalp. Try When applying conditioners or deep conditioners and stylers don’t apply to the scalp. Just a little below the root to ends. That has helped my scalp not itch and be as dry as it was. I use a light oil for scalp massages and fluffing. But I’ve avoided applying products to my scalp. Maybe you can try that. Love the mix it up series. You gals are so creative. 💕💕

I read to Avoid putting non-cleansing products on the scalp to reduce buildup, and in my case I will be itchy within 2 days. If needed, I use a q tip with ACV or spray dry shampoo which helps me get to wash day. I try to remember the ends are the oldest part of the hair, not the hair from the scalp.

Yeah anything with tea tree will normally help. It might be from your hair being wet for so long? Maybe even try the Shea moisture detox and refresh line, if you have it. I like that for itchy scalp.

For itch scalp I mix ACV with water and I spray it on my scalp and just massage it for a few minutes. Also I mix alot since I rarely use a whole line of products for a wash n go.

I also mixed it up this week because I was thinking maybe my hair wanted a break from the same old, same old. I used the Curl Junkie banana and Hibiscus leave in as opposed to Shea Moisture JBCO leave in. I sprayed some aphogee green tea reconstructor . I used Camille Rose Almond Jai butter as usual. But I grabbed Uncle Funkies instead of Camille Rose curl maker. My crunch was unbelievable. My shrinkage was out of this world. While wet I was like wow I like this. I forgot to mention i shingled my hair as well because last week wash and go didn't hold up so well due to the weather. Some from Sunday to today my hair is still tight and crunchy and I've been inside in the AC. So for me I think I would reach for Curl Maker over UFD gel. Now I started with CR Love Milk, probably the only Milk my hair liked of all the others that I've tried. Use to put it under the almond jai butter until I noticed my hair shrinks less without using the milk. I soon began to use the Almond jai butter alone for my cream in the LOC method. Last week I used the curl Milk after repurchasing a new bottle and my hair just didn't work with it. I'm thinking the content of coconut oil in the milk and the Almond jai butter were just to much for my hair at the time. Hadn't use the aphogee in a while found a new bottle while throwing out some products. Even though the combination this week gave me so much shrinkage. I have som much elasticity. My hair feels like I'm pulling a rubber band when I pull it to length. I think that means its healthy.😊

I typically love the Curl Enhancing smoothie by Shea Moisture with Eco Styler gel (currently using the argan oil version). It never fails. I also don't need to use a lot of either product as my curl pattern is a tad looser. I also love the JBCO leave-in by Shea Moisture with Eco Styler. Use both about the same way. Love it!

I mixed my Uncle Funky’s with the whole blends legendary olive leave in and loved the results. I normally mix a little of the two products I want to mix in my hands to make sure it will work in my hair. I mix it up always 😂. The only time I had a issue with my scalp was when I had an allergic reaction to a product 🤔I washed it out and it seemed to work for me. Hope it gets better for you!

I took Hairfinity vitamins years ago for one month. About 2wks after my bottle was finished, I had a wash day & I cried hysterically at how much hair came out before I even got in the shower to wash my hair (I was getting the shed hair out so it wouldn’t clog my drain). From then on I said never again. I think I read somewhere that those types of vitamins don’t really make your hair grow (because our hair already grows), but there’s an ingredient in them that just increases the length of time before the strands shed, so it seems like it’s growing because of the vitamins.

My favorite cocktail is starting with the B’ leave in by Devacurl, followed by the sealing cream by TMC Moringa line, and for hold, I use the Bounce Curl gel. M.A.D. Curls put me on the Sealing Creme by the Maine Choice. As far as the itchy scalp, anytime it’s very hot or humid, my scalp goes crazy!! Try the Carols Daughter fortifying scalp spray!

The one thing that works for me when that happens to scalp is using Cantu's ACV rinse in place of shampoo. It's gentle on the hair, but relieves the itchies immediately. Just be careful not to get it in your eyes!
