I remember about 8 years ago I recieved a check in the mail from a class action lawsuit against EA and Madden that said they were found guilty of overpricing their games.. it was a legit check for like $50 and list ed I think 2 maddens I had previously purchased... No company gives anything away for free without some benefit for them. EA knows and is betting that people given free copies of the game will spend more than 60 dollars on micro transactions for things like ultimate team and the yard. Especially if it is somebody that hasn’t bought Madden in years. Hook em up with a free copy and hope you can reel them back in and get them addicted on opening packs and voila tons of income on micro transactions. I honestly wouldn’t accept a free copy of Madden because I still play NCAA14 where the gameplay is equal if not better than Madden 21 plus I like college football way more.

Absolutely. But a AAA sports game shouldn't be riddled with microtransactions in order to enjoy the game. I should be able to enjoy a good franchise mode and a good overall game because of the nature of the game. For comparison Destiny 2 (no addons) is free. It makes more sense in a game like destiny but Destiny also gives you the opportunity to grind and achieve goals. And you could still get a pretty thoroughly enjoyable experience out of Destiny even if you just download the free version and don't buy any add ons. Madden has basically torpedoed its other game modes to force users to pay to "enjoy". Which is BS for a sports game to charge full price and the game is incomplete.

2k and the Show have done this same move, but only 6+ months after the games release. A couple weeks after release is swinging for the fences. It looked like it was not everyone gets one, just “winners.” It’s like those dumb Beach Body ads were you text something, then get free access for a 30 days. I hate how right Ryan is. I've gotten the last 2 NBA 2k games almpst for free, and spent 20ish dollars on VC to jump start the MyCareer mode only because I spent next to nothing on the actual game. For madden its worth it to sell the game for next to nothing so they can push people towards microtransactions. Alot of developers are doing this now
