A friend of mine wanted to transition but was living with strict orthodox russian parents so she was actually scared for her life. So she had no possibility of cross dressing for these 2 years. Thats why my family helped her order estrogen from spain and we got it delivered to our flat so that her parents wouldn"t know. As a law in my country you had to be taken care of a doctor once you take the estrogen so we basically skipped this 2 year period as Kylie did. Im so proud of her for taking these steps and now 9 years later she is happier than ever.

Love this interview. Amazing, as always. What I truly love is that we are seeing icons come on now who are fully aware of Maddy's show, her vibe, and knowing the show is about them as an entire person, and not just a performer. They look forward to what dirt she can bring up, the parting gifts, the quick-witted shade. I've been binging Maddy content lately, not just GITMS, but her appearances on other channels and podcasts, and it is so abundantly clear how she is viewed in such high regard by her fellow queens. I hope she sees that. It's very clear to the rest of us.

I don't think people realize how different the entire culture was when drag race started. Even within the lgbtq community, drag was not that popular and it certainly wasn't well respected. And then, a lot of queens were doing gigs just for tips and drink tickets, being paid even $50 for a night was lucky to have. With transitioning, it was basically taboo to not fit either end of the binary, so there was a massive pressure that if you said you were trans out loud, you were supposed to be "unclockable". We look back at old seasons and say it's antiquated, but that's what progress means. Drag Race then was ahead of its time, but with that said, obviously when we looked backwards some things will look....backwards. That's the point of moving forward.

But again, thanks for sharing your experiences and speaking about it so raw, cuz I've felt so seen haha
