I’m not Mongolian, but the festival you are mentioning is the Nadaam Festival. I’ve been to Mongolia last year with a friend and his wife, who is mongolian. The mongols are a very proud people, and rightly so. We visited the festival and it was awesome. I also learnt how archery in Mongolia works. And it’s also fantastic to be welcomed by Mongolian families in their yurts which they call ger. We traveled the gobi desert and slept in gers. Awesome experience!

The Mongols have history. They had the largest contiguous land empire in history; from China to the Danube. Chinggas Khan killed millions and opened the Silk Road to the West. He gave women greater rights than the West did, created the first postal service, abolished torture, upheld religious tolerance, and sought out artistic and technological advancements and brought them, and their practitioners, to his capital. It may be said that he created a foundation for the Renaissance as a result of the trade that developed and the flow of ideas his system set in play.

The Mongol horseman flies the Khar Sulde, the dreaded Black Banner of War of Gengis Khan, revered as a national hero in Mongolia. They are one, the horse and the warrior. Iron horses replaced the totemic animal, but the ancient, frightening war song lost nothing of its power!

Here's my opinion. ANY Nation/Culture (except for the Native American Indian Tribes) that would have tried to invade Mongolia when the Mongolians were at the HEIGHT of their strength/power under the leadership of the Great Ghengis Khan would have seen these dudes, or more accurately their ancestors, and would most likely say: "um...wait...um...i have a dentist appointment, or...um...i forgot to turn the oven off, or...um...i forgot to lock the front door, or...um...whatever. um...BYE!" The invaders would then turn around and RUN LIKE HELL. Just my own personal opinion anyway.

Cool reaction Maddy, had me smiling when you made the observation about motorcycles rather than horses like others have said. I have been following The Hu for a few years after finding this song. Great reaction. The Hu put a lot of symbolic in their videos. In this the motorcycles represent the modern horse. Mongolians were a horse riding nation and that is how they were able to conquer so many other nations and with the speed it happened . At the height of the Mongolian empire they reached as far west as Eastern Europe. They were also very proficient at horseback archery and falconry.

And welcome to the world of " throat singing " ! Saw them live a few months ago and they were AWESOME . Had planned to see them over a year ago when they were supposed to be touring with Sabaton - but that was postponed due to Covid restrictions and when Sabaton's tour went ahead The Hu couldn't do it as they had their own Tour arranged for this year - so I had to see Sabaton with Babymetal and see The Hu separately - win - win !!

I live in northern Manitoba in central Canada, Mongolias best in my opinion, great reps of the culture led by Gengis Khan, his courage and leadership was unmatched, the Mongols were excellent horse archers and deadly accurate.

Short summary of the song: "Don't mess with us! If you attack us, we'll rip your heart out and feed it to you. You're not going home alive!" 😀 I love this track and have a few things to say. the Great Mongol Empire was the largest empire, essentially extending from Korea to East Central Europe. Its founder was The Great Khan, Genghis - whose life is epic and instructive in itself. Genghis Khan and his memory are still revered in Mongolia to this day, and no one has been able to figure out where he was buried for centuries, although there are assumptions about the approximate area. (It is assumed that he was buried on the mountain considered the holiest by the Khan, but this is not proven, and the Mongols would not allow his grave to be disturbed, even if they found it. He is literally playing with his life if he intends to to dig up the grave of the Great Khan.) I read that those who performed the funeral rites and knew where the Khan was buried after returning were all killed so that no one could find the grave and disturb or dishonor the Great Khan's eternal sleep. The song has a few details I'd like to explain. The "blue maned lion"... He is the snow lion, the celestial animal of Tibet. At the same time, the emblem of Tibet, which symbolizes the snowy mountain ranges and glaciers of Tibet. Mythologically symbolizes power and strength, fearlessness and joy, the east and the earth element. And what do the Mongols have to do with the sacred mythological animal of Tibet? Mongolians are Buddhists, and Mongolian Buddhism originates from Tibetan Buddhism - I think that's where the first monks came from - although it also contains elements from the original religion of the nomadic peoples of the Asian steppes, which is called Tengrism (the name of the main god, the Creator of the Universe, the Heavenly Father, is Tengri ), and which is still the religion of several steppe ethnic groups today. The "Garuda" bird is a mystical animal that plays an important role in both Hinduism and Buddhism, the Protector, and according to legends it kills snakes. That detail in the song: "Ten of us will strike you like thunder A hundred of us will shatter your hearts Thousand of us will destroy and obliterate Ten thousand of us will hand you the wrath of heaven!" Again a reference to the time of Genghis Khan and the Mongol conquering army. The Mongols divided the troops in each battle into units of 10, 100, 1,000 or 10,000 men, depending on the situation. If a larger force, such as 10,000 or more troops, was detached from the main army, it was handed over to a significant secondary leader while the commander-in-chief could concentrate on the front line. The song lists what happens to the attackers when they face 10, 100, 1000, or 10,000 Mongol warriors. The story of "the wrath of heaven"... According to the story - who knows if it's true, but I believe it 😀 - when Genghis Khan conquered a country, the defeated king asked what crime they had committed, for which the Mongols attacked him and destroyed them? The Great Khan's answer was: "I am the punishment of God...If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you." I love this song (also) from THE HU. Like all their songs, this one has so many layers, both musically and content-wise, I swear I could write a series of essays on each of their songs! "The HU" has a video about the life and glory of Genghis Khan. Also, I highly recommend the song Black Thunder and its video - but pay attention, because the video is in 2 parts!

This song has ALWAYS brought up a hypothetical 'what-if' scenario to me. This hypothetical 'what-if' scenario is this: If the Mongolians at the HEIGHT of their strength (under the leadership of Ghengis Khan if I'm not mistaken) would face off against the Native American tribes at the HEIGHT of their strength (I think the strongest Tribe was the Comanche, but I honestly don't know for sure), just EXACTLY who would win? YES, I know that these two Cultures/Peoples were from different time periods, but the question remains: at the HEIGHT of their strength, just EXACTLY who would win? BOTH Peoples were very highly trained Mounted Warriors, but if I'm not mistaken their training also differed. So again, in a hypothetical 'what-if' scenario, who would actually win? Just always wondered about that.
@Daarkena

I think they would have been more friends and allies. That's what I prefer to think about during a "what if" musing. As far as I know, the ancestors of American Indians came from Asia during an ice age when the Bering Strait was not covered by sea - and this is confirmed by genetic studies. So there is a kinship between Native Americans and steppe peoples. Yes, I can very well imagine that the Mongols would have viewed the Native Americans as a related people. 😀

And on the complete opposite end of the Mongolian entertainment spectrum, we have the ultra-tall, deep baritoned Enkh Erdene doing a rendition of George Strait's, " Amarillo By Morning" on the Mongolia's Got Talent show from a few years ago. He later performed it in the U.S. in front of Faith Hill, among others. She was stunned into jaw-dropping awe at how good it was. Check out his MGT performance ; it's a hoot to see the Mongolian girls (very attractive) swooning in their seats. -- doubt they'd ever heard anything like that before.

Hello. You are talking about Inner Mongolia. We Mongolians are an independent country. But the Inner Mongolians are our blood brothers. Due to the influence of China and Russia in the early 1900s, the two Mongolias ceased to be one country and have a complicated and sad history. As for the festival, it is almost close. I don't know the details of Inner Mongolia, so I can't tell you exactly. For our Mongolia, you can get information about the festival from the following travelers' videos. 1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/apTahH-lmLWSjq8 2. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKalhaShmLGVmbc 3. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYupgpqhaMZ2Y5Y
