I am a 70 year old white dude. I went to our local land fill about 30 years ago. I had this playing LOUD. When I stopped at the gate, the attendant (young black guy) just stared at me. He didn't know what to think. We both just started laughing at the same time. Music is forever.

Ah, 1981! Theeee party anthem for my Freshman year of college. (I'm 61 now and still grooving' to that era's Funk & New Wave!!!) Also had the 12" vinyl extended version with Superfreak pt 2, for a 7 minute play! That was a thing, extended mixes, and even the Instrumental versions of popular songs. Great reaction, Maddy! Cheers! from CT!

Im 60 never went to college but spent ages 18-25 living in Athens Georgia in the early/mid 80s around the UGA campus [GO DAWGS} meeting all kinds of chics & going to some great parties plus downtown is a hot spot for entertainment especially at that time when bands like REM, Widespread Panic & B52s were getting their start there! I also was lucky enough to have a '78 Ttop Z28 {a bank repo payoff of $1200 that I paid for in cash} at that time so had a cool ride at a young age! I have a friend {he is 70} who is from Groton CT & still has family there, he lives down near the Allman Brothers museum in Macon, Ga the birthplace of rock {Lil Richard}, soul {Otis Redding} & southern rock {Allman Brothers}! It was awesome growing up here in Georgia & getting to see all the great southern bands in the early days like Charlie Daniels, Lynryd Skynyrd, Black Crowes, Drivin n Crying, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Molly Hatchet, Marshall Tucker, 38 Special, Georgia Satellites, Jackyl & many more...damn I miss those days

An amazing bit of music trivia is that from 1964 to 1967, Rick James and Neil Young had a band called 'The Mynah Birds'. They formed in Canada where Rick, an American, had gone when he skipped out on his US military service and he teamed up with Neil Young, a Canadian. They played gigs mostly in the Toronto area. Rick was later arrested in the USA for his desertion and served several months in jail. If you do a KZbin search for 'The Mynah Birds' you can find some videos of them performing. Rick, still a teenager, looks so young! At the time Rick went by the name "Ricky James Mathews". His birth name is "James Ambrose Johnson Jr."

You may be surprised to know that Rick James was actually in a band with Neil Young way back in the day. Talk about contrasting styles. But Rick said it's all music, and they were able to connect and make it work. I think Rick was AWOL from the Army and playing with Neil in a band called The Myna Birds when he got busted. But I think he's most famous for this song, drug/sex parties that went on for days (The original Diddy), and the famous saying, "Cocaine is a helluva drug."

You're looking mighty fine as usual Maddy! I love humorous videos like this and I knew that you would have fun with Reacting to it. I'm a bit of a rebel myself as was Rick James. I matured and left my wild days behind me and now I'm just rebellious against the corrupt elites and authority figures who abuse their power and hurt innocent people. But unfortunately Rick took his hedonism much too far and let drugs mess him up. He was convicted and put in prison for a pretty disgusting sex crime and I suspect that his drug habit resulted in his early death. But I can separate his downward spiral and still get a kick out of this song and funny video. 😘

No,Maddy--It's just a woman who likes sex...a lot. And If only Rick had stayed away from the cocaine, his Stone City Band wouldn't have left him, and his comeback after his first jail sentence wouldn't have been derailed. At his second trial, the judge added another 90 days for falling asleep while he was lecturing him. As for the Princess Di look-alike in the video, well..she did like clubbing and dancing sultry, and we all loved her looks. By the way, that was the real Temptations on the recording. ( Both were on the Motown Label).
