When Jimmy walks in after his college reunion... the look on his face is so completely devastating you feel it in your bones. Actors like Stewart are precious. People like Stewart are precious. Hollywood promoting families is long gone. This was such a wonderful film. Thank you, PizzaFlix for preserving and sharing this.

These old black and white films were so well written because they didn’t have the special effects they have today. So the writing had to be well written and it was. I love watching them.

splitpitch One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure. LOL! One thing my wife and I have found over the years is that some movies of the past 40-50 yrs have scripts where the obscenities really detract from the overall acceptance of the film across the spectrum of audiences. We’ve remarked that we wonder why the writer & producer seemingly added in obscenities after the fact. This because the film would be better all around without the obscenities. Its like those words don’t seem like they would come from the characters as they otherwise are in the film.

Judy Evancic As a spin-of to your comment: «And artists a few centuries ago, like Michelangelo, could paint this well because they had to; they did not have photo/film, so their handwork had to be superb to get as close to reality (or improving it) as possible.». Films had more family values back in the 30ies - 50ies, all the way untill the culture revolution in the 60ies that rebelled against all set norms of society. And did this experiment of «freedom» improve the level of happiness?
@sazure2
@sazure2 3 жыл бұрын
@@Cambell777 What? It was one medium at their disposal. I lived in NYC and attended the Art Students League and one can find many artists who can now copy the technique. They painted "that well" because they knew their craft and were "inspired" and had the insight (as did many others of their time and of our time) by higher influence. Meaning not the mundane. At that time since it took decades to develop the technical skills, students were children. The worked with and under other "Masters" of their time. (unfortunately the Church ruled and dictated what could or could not be produced). Reality. Meaningless. Each species sees differently. The eye perceives but the brain sees. Cats see motion against a field of grayish green blur. Eagles of course see in the following manner. "Of all the eyes nature has ever produced, those of the eagle - with its large, hooked beak, pale yellow iris and powerful talons - may be the most extraordinary." "Embedded on either side of its face, an eagle’s eyes give it nearly panoramic vision. If you were an eagle, you could see a rabbit running from three miles away. If you had an eagle’s ultraviolet light perception, you could track a tiny vole from the sky by the UV rays reflected from its urine." "And while most humans have 20/20 vision, eagles are blessed with an astounding 20/5 vision. That means that what looks sharp and clear to us at 5 feet is just as clear to an eagle from 20 feet away". No wonder we use the term “eagle eyes” to describe superb vision. ................................ Some fish and most insects see in other rays we humans can not see. Some such as Mosquito see "infrared" light (reason why they find you in the dark". It is fascinating as to what other species consider "reality" and shows that each is adapted to their own environmental needs. ................................. All of the great art of that time (and other periods) was based on Sacred Geometry - there were mathematical equations applied to the art. If you know art and learn to really see you can realize this. (torsos were elongated, landscapes equally "improved" upon and so forth). Camera's can be included today if one realizes that much can be done in the dark room. The technique is one tool, what one does with the image is the real result. See Ansel Adams. The "real" world did not look the same as his final images. He did much work in the dark room. That is what makes it art verses a Polaroid. (one can use many other techniques - lens so on).

I think Jimmy Stewart was a brilliant man with uncanny ability to focus 100% on perfection in whatever he was doing. His military career in the middle of his movie career proves it. Forever funny and humble man, polite and kind. Agreed the old black whites were written very well. Any color picture remake would be a hit today and yet maybe not as good, depends on who remakes it. Carole Lombard was a huge star and the highest paid actor in Hollywood at this time, the late 1930s. Hard to believe she would die three years after 'MADE FOR EACH OTHER' was released, at the age of just 33, in January 1942. She and her mother died in a plane crash as they returned from a War Bond tour. Lombard was married twice, her first marriage to the actor William Powell lasted from 1931-1933, and she married Clark Gable in 1939 the year this movie was released. Despite re-marrying twice after her death, Gable chose to be interred beside Lombard when he died in 1960, aged 59.

@Thao Brewster You're so welcome, I'm glad it was of interest. I'm a journalist so when I stumble on an old movie like this one, I can't help researching interesting stars like Carole Lombard - it's a compulsion with me! I was immediately struck by how modern/contemporary she is in this film. The movie is a bit dumb in places, but her performance is fresh and believable throughout. She was clearly a superb actress. I knew she died young but couldn't recall the details. When I looked up the sad story I was shocked - her life was short, but far more dramatic than most movie plots. I'm glad Carole Lombard found true love with Clark Gable, it's very touching that they were finally interred side by side, despite his subsequent marriages. God bless, stay safe & well. X

My parents married after two months of meeting - ran off to Las Vegas, and through (much) thick & thin, were married 55kyrs before father passed. This brings fond memories of my mother relating the post-WII/Korean War years in which it wasn't so looked down upon to marry after just meeting...they grew up during the Great Depression and subsequent years of not knowing when / if your sweetheart would come home from war, much less survive.

Lol - would add; mother strongly recommended knowing someone more than a few months prior to marriage :)

now not looked down on to have a kid after just meeting (at a local bar, or on the street). Sad for the children these days of such alley cat behavior.

Lucile Watson played Jimmy Stewart's mother, a wonderful actress who was also superb as Norma Shearer's Ma Mrs Morehead in THE WOMEN, made this same year, 1939. I think Lucile Watson cornered the market in indomitable mothers in the 1930s and '40s. She was born in 1879 and died in 1962 aged 83, leaving a legacy of great character movie roles. Really enjoyed this movie, thank you so much for the upload! Jimmy and Carole made a handsome couple, her tragic death in her prime in a plane crash (along with her mother) was a sad loss. It's easy to see why Clark Gable never got over her, despite re-marrying, and was buried alongside her when his time came. Just discovered you and subbed - PIZZAFLIX must survive! XXX

@@saran3214 Thanks - she had a very memorable voice didn't she, I can 'hear' it as I type this! She may not have been a household name or headliner, but we are still discussing Lucile Watson in 2020 thanks to her work onscreen, nearly 60 years after her death. That's a form of immortality in my book. Good chatting with you, stay safe and well. XXX

I adore the classics...I was raised by my Granny & Granpa and these lovely films captured my heart from a very young age...My old soul simply feels every tiny bit of them...If anyone would like to know some of my favorites, I would be happy to share with you...Two that come to mind right now are Remember the Night, from 1940 (Christmas theme) with Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray & Beulah Bondi playing MacMurray's Mom, the superb actress who played Jimmy Stewart's Mom in It's a Wondrrful Life and also Of Human Hearts, from 1938 (very rare) with Jimmy Stewart, Walter Houston & again Beulah Bondi, once again playing Jimmy's Mom...Both EXCELLENT films~~~🥰❤
