The doc martens i have now fooled me. I thought they'd be good boots if made in England but they are crap . The leather upper is cracking up at the fold lines . Shouldn't happen. I'd allege that manufacturer sabotaged the leather deliberately by maybe exposing to high heat . I've had two other doc martens with exactly same condition . Other comments say the same stuff . Avoid doc martens, also avoid blundstone. For blundstone though they sabotage the sole .
@garyallen88692 жыл бұрын
@@michaelcorbidge7914 I had the same problem with both the made in Thailand & made in England boots, the made in England took longer to crack, however, using wonder balm and or mink oil before wearing them and a couple applications after, completely stopped the problem, the leather as received is too dry without conditioning and will crack no matter what, however when you soften the leather they will last just like vintage docs, I have had another pair since 1987

This has been a really interesting watch. I "graduated" into my first Made in England pair a few years ago and I had high expectations but the stitching ended up coming undone which had never happened in my many years of wearing Made in Thailand. So this has been interesting from a professionals perspective and i've really enjoyed watching the comparisons between the boots over the last few days.

Really Rose Anvil had already decided he didn't like the Thai boot before he cut one open, he doesn't emphasise the difference between poorly made and not as well made. The Thai boot does not suck, it's a perfectly good boot for its' price. If it did suck they wouldn't sell the Made in England boot. Rose Anvil is effectively holding the Asian made boot to a standard that's too high for its' price. It's like saying a BMW 3-series sucks because it's not a Rolls Royce.

@@thewinterwhite you people rabbit on like you know what you're talking about. Of course the man is cutting towards himself. You need strength and control of the cut cutting through bits of shoe. Scoring cuts are made inwards.. it is the correct way to do it. Cutting out with that type of cut is actually more hazardous not just to the user but to the general surroundings. Is he going to randomly stab himself? No. The arm is moving back into the chest. If the cut were to slip (And it won't because this man obviously knows the importance of a sharp knife) his arm would move back into his chest. The only thing you have to be concerned about is keeping your other hand away from the trajectory of the blade, which this guy seems to understand.

I used your break in technique on a pair of Red Wings that I've never been able to break in enough to be comfortable and oh my god it's fantastic. They've gone from hard to wear all day to possibly my most comfortable shoe. It's amazing it. They are drastically darker than they were pre-treatment, from a rich red/brown to almost black. (I used Obenauf's Leather Oil instead of mink oil, as liquid mink oil is hard to find here.) I've worn them for about a week and it does look like the oil will slowly evaporate and some of that red will come back, which I'm happy with. Super awesome tip!

I bought mine from someone for like 40$ and now I learned they're vintage! and now i'm super proud of them. I'd love to see a video about how to take care of these boots so that they last forever

great video - please keep them coming. The welt is so tough to pull from the sole because they are not glued on, but melted with a very hot blade and pushed together with rollers while still hot and soft. So the 2 pieces of PVC actually become 1.

The way you're cutting toward yourself with a scalpel and with such force is making me wince every time!

So besides Timberlands and Redwings (which I’d love to see). You should really do Thursday/Taft boots afterwords. I feel like there’s so much advertising and hype around those brands. Also I’d challenge you to find the best quality $100 boot. Like full grain/top grain leather, long lasting sole etc. That would be awesome. OR cut apart the highest rated cheapest pair of boots on amazon that’d be cool too!
