I’m with you, Mimo! Most people think you’re “boring” if you don’t drink. First off, I’m perfectly capable of having fun when I don’t drink and, not to brag but my friends think I’m hilarious on my own. Secondly, if you absolutely *need* alcohol to have fun aren’t *you* the boring one? 🤔

Happy Birthday to your daughter 🥳 Drinking is overrated anyway. I had my fun in my 20s, but after awhile it started affecting my physical and mental health so I pretty much gave it up. Now I only have like 1-2 drinks a year in addition to Communion wine. If you can handle alcohol in moderation that’s great, but if you can’t don’t feel pressured to drink just to have fun. You usually end up regretting your actions the next day if you pass your threshold, which is different for everyone. It’s not worth it. Explore other stuff you may enjoy.
@willowtdog64493 ай бұрын
I love that reveal! 😂 Did you actually use that for her birthday? As someone who really enjoys alcohol, I agree, it’s not necessary to drink to have a good time. I enjoy the experience of it. I love craft beer and trying new wines, or fun mixed drinks. I have enough social anxiety that it’s also just nice to relax a bit. But you’re absolutely right that it’s not necessary. Or it shouldn’t be. That’s an unhealthy relationship with drinking if it feels necessary to have fun. Plus, it can really be a risky activity. It’s a lot safer to just stay away from it. Happy Birthday to your daughter! And congratulations to you that your oldest is 21!

So the license thing wasn’t entirely accurate. See in America you actually have to apply to get your new license, they won’t just send it even though they have all your info and could easily automate the process. So you have to go through all of the criteria (including the eye exam, probably why they haven’t automated it) that you did to first get your license just to have it say you’re of age. Oh and did I mention that almost every type of ID in America will go invalid the day you turn 21? So you have to get everything I mentioned done BEFORE you’re actually 21. You can have one of the few versions of IDs that doesn’t expire immediately and gives you like a couple years, but from what I’ve heard it’s pretty rare

“Not if your drink responsibly.” There’s no such thing, babe. Coming from a convert who was surrounded by non Muslim family members that “drank socially/responsibly” alcohol opens the door to a lot of bad events, decisions, arguments and creates bad environments. There will always be one person that tries to take advantage of the fact that liquor is flowing. I’ve also noticed the ones in my family/coworkers who drink are miserable. They say it’s needed for a fun time, but they’re miserable right after. The energy in their homes is thick and uncomfortable. I have to assume bad jinn and bad humans alike are drawn to taking advantage of people who are intoxicated. Intoxicants are a door that’s better left unopened.

This is interesting as an archaeologist because we definitely do find what was once alcohol at sites that would have been predominantly Muslim. Alcoholic drinks were necessary because of bacteria in water in water though. I wonder if this is a change because beer is now way more alcoholic in nature, and unnecessary in a modern diet, Or, if lightly fermented beverages are/were exempt from this. As a non drinker too, it's always weird when I find sooo much alcohol at places you would never expect.

Funnily enough I just had to get my license renewed for that exact reason. I don't plan on drinking even when I am of age. I'm not Muslim, I was born and raised Catholic. My parents have never been heavy drinkers while my Aunt and her family has. I have never liked the smell of alcohol, it makes me nauseous. Plus I've found that drunk people are often rude, arrogant, and can get away with anything being a joke just because they are wasted. It doesn't sound like fun to me. My cousin has been giving me crap recently for my attitude towards drinking. I see her getting drunk with friends and her family all the time. I know she finds it fun, I'm glad she enjoys it. She feels comfortable acting her age. But I just find it ridiculous and can't see myself doing the same thing.

All commercials and shows /movies have people drinking and having fun. And the one that isn't, gets looked at like a weirdo. I've made sure to point out to both of my older children that they have had fun with friends or at parties WITHOUT drinking. You don't need it.

Can you use alcohol in recipes? I have a few family recipes that use alcohol (pasta sauces made with wine), and I'm curious whether that would be allowed for Muslims to eat. I'd guess the answer would probably be "it depends", but it'd be neat to know if there's a more definite answer.

There have been more and more studies showing that any amount of alcohol can increase your risk of cancer. I wish it wasn’t so encouraged in our upcoming adults and teens. It’s bad for your body EDIT: I want to Clarify I am not against drinking nor do I shame those who drink. I believe everyone has a right to their own body and choices. Both my parents are drinkers and I grew up being allowed to drink if I was with them (not as a kid obviously) I personally don’t believe it has any benefits for ME but I would never share someone for their choices because they’re life isn’t my business.

I very rarely drink. I'm on too much medication and had an incident that led to my best friend of 10 years being my ex best friend (I don't want tobtrigger anyone with details) so I get sick really quickly from alcohol most of the time, before I even manage to get drunk now, until when I was 18-22 (I'm not American, 18 is the drinking age here). Even then, I wasn't a frequent drinker before my body told me no so I have no problem skipping out on drinks while I'm out with friends. It's not that hard to have fun when you're with the right people.

Late congrats for the 21st birthday! I believe that's legal adulthood over there? Like you're fully responsible for yourself now. That also means a lot more freedom to go do things you want to do without parental permission so use it responsibly. I'm 21, Finnish so I've been allowed to drink and be legally an adult for 3 years already. When I turned 18 they said that same hazing stuff and I was basically just told to drink responsibly, which was easy because my parents always encouraged testing our limits and coming home at whatever state we were in. Full prohibition doesn't work, we have historical proof of that. If you're the type to want to go experience drinking, you will find a way. Like moonshine which is a lot more dangerous. And so I drank carefully, always could get myself home and never lost any memories, and by now I'm pretty much done with it, honestly it being so normalized to drink or not drink, no one cares either way, takes away the hype and I end up not drinking a lot of the time. I enjoy our dungeons and dragons nights, board games, some snacks with friends way more that going to a bar where it's loud and that's personal preference. You absolutely have plenty of ways to have fun either way, just gotta find like minded friends, shared interests.

I'm not religious and I do drink, but I do so very moderately (I enjoy a glass of wine with a nice dinner sometimes, and very occasionally will have a cocktail). And even then, I still think most alcoholic beverages should be banned. It's incredibly frustrating how normalized it is to get almost blackout drunk. Alcohol kills people and destroys lives in so many ways, and yet just because it's profitable for Governments, it's allowed.

People who think you can't have fun without alcohol have an alcohol problem. It's just so normalized by society that they don't realize it. I'm not muslim, I enjoy a drink from time to time (a cold beer after working out is bliss!), but it's FAR from my sole definition of fun. If I don't think an activity sounds fun when sober, I'll just go do something else, I'm not about to get drunk just to force myself to enjoy something.

I'm Irish, I don't like the taste of alcohol 😅 people think I'm weird, just because I'm Irish doesn't mean I'm a drinker 😂😂 I will have a Baileys (whiskey and cream) once a blue moon but that's because you can't taste the alcohol. You don't need to drink to have fun, also the hangover is not worth it Love your cakes!

I always say two things: 1. If you need to drink or get high to have fun, what you’re doing isn’t actually fun. 2. I’d rather be around people who know how to ACTUALLY have fun versus be with people who need to be intoxicated just to feel like they’re having fun

What if a Muslim person decides to drink? What happens with their faith? Does their family disown them? Are they not allowed to attend their services or prayer with their mosque? Asking for knowledge, not judgement.

As a non Muslim who doesn't drink I SO FEEL YOU ON THIS 😂 I turned 21 not long ago and I've been getting weird comments from peers who think it's their place to tell me how I'm allowed to have fun like??? How about we respect each other's choices bro 🤯 Btw that cake looks amazing!
