This movie and The Iron Giant give the message "You are who you choose to be" very deeply. Such an important message in a world where people think that their lives are molded by the family and/or country the are born in. In the end you should love who you are regardless of what the majority thinks. It's not always easy due to society's expectations of you. But never doubt who you really are. I love the message of your background and heritage. Doesn't define you or your talent. It's what you choose to be that makes you who you are. And talent can come from anyone whose willing to hold on to their dreams. And work hard to fulfil it and not give up to those who put you down. I just love the impact that certain art can have to those who recognise the love behind it.

i feel his dad meant to say *things*, "you cant change things" because for him, nature is just the only way things are, he is a rat and he must do his role, but for remy and as for humans ourselfs, nature is just something that exist around us and that we can manipule, because even if it sounds contradictory, changing nature is natural in humans, we change our environment, we change our society, we changed from surviving to living, because we are always looking for a more comfortable way of living than before, so we thrive with inventions, agreements and improvements, because as a double-edged knife our ambition to always have more and better has made us a global-dominating species.

Actually I think it was confirmed by the director that they are not actually one in the same. They just used the same home design of the old lady’s house in Ego’s flashback (to save time I imagine). I could be entirely wrong though.

I love Ratatouille! It's a bitter sweet life lesson - it teaches the hard reality of the world that if the world isn't ready to accept you, it doesn't matter how amazing you are at something but that doesn't mean you can't find a middle ground where you can be happy!

My father was an amazing cook, he always put time, effort, and love into every meal he made for me and my family. He made amazing stakes, greek chicken, and hamburgers (so forth) My father, recently passed away this year, and while thoughtful, people have tried to replicate my fathers cooking for my family, Though it is not the same. Theres not the same amount of time put into the preparation, the spices, and how he made it the way he did, and a piece of me believes that I will never taste something like that ever again. Like Anton Ego, I am cynical of people. People who claim to have love who ive never really spoken to suddenly entering my life and saying they will do all they can, when it is simply not realistic or have hurt me in the past. They have there own life to live, or they cannot repair the damage they have done, promises mean nothing until they are upheld. However.. there is someone in my life who I love dearly, who has stood by me for years and years and while they do not cook me stakes, they introduce me to something new and experimental each time they cook.. and it wears down my cynicism, showing me that while I cannot have what I once did, I can find something new and lovely for years to come.

I think the biggest morale of this movie is bravery and having the courage to stand in your truth and be who you are. And with the support of those around you, you can make something of yourself, live your life pursing your passion. Without his family and his friends in Alfredo and Colette, he would never be anything more than regular rat. But people finally saw him and chose to help and support and together, they all made something better for themselves. And they all live more honestly and happily after standing in their truth and remaining firm on it

Great review and analysis! What you missed in Ego’s significance is the almost literal quoting of Proust’s ‘madeleine moment’. Here Proust desribes eating a piece of cake, and than reliving a deep and warm clidhood memory. He is amazed that such a thing can involuntary make you relive a certain vague but important memory. It recreates a full awareness of every detail and feeling, almost as timetraveling. Like ‘Ego’ he then follows by stating the cook (or artist) has a holy purpuse, because by enabling us to relive the past their art makes us into eternal beings.

Remmy isn't "woke". Woke is a completely different thing entirely. Remmy is far more like Ben Carson or Thomas Sowell. Two men who started off in an environment that was not ideal, surrounded by people who told them "this is just how the world is" and yet, (like Remmy) they defied that idea. They all made something of themselves DESPITE where they came from... As opposed, "Woke" is against that and have consistantly denounced these men and principals. Work wants to be rewarded for simply Existing... supposedly because OF where they came from without putting in any effort for their own self-improvement or taking responsibility for themselves. Remmy doesn't blame the world for why he is what he is. No, Remmy WORKS to show that (like Anton Ego finally learned) "A good artist can come from anywhere." If anything, he's progressive by the original meaning of the word, not the twisted version that we see all over social media nowadays. He recognizes that he can be more than where he came from. That is the message of Remmy's story.

As a kid this movie was entertaining and strange, new. But now as a adult whenever I watch this movie I always find some good life advice I wish I took more to heart. New artists either art or food etc are not usually welcomed so easily in the world. It's a twisted path of learning things and learning to take criticism. I didn't know before that it's love that makes the art, love for art is what makes art fun and wonderful. I realized this truth when I lost sight of why I draw, got too caught up in the likes and comments, views etc. To the point I felt no happiness anymore from drawing. But when I stopped drawing I was miserable. I felt like a part of me was missing. Then when looking through old artworks I remembered I had to draw for myself and not for the likes or views or followers but for my own joy and love of drawing.This movie always helps me remember that anyone can be a chef, artist whatever they are passionate! The only limit is your soul.

I've been in the industry for 25 years so I have a unique perspective on this movie and its meaning. I've worked with lots of people over the years who are a lot like characters in the movie. Whether overstressed owner who lives in mortal fear of getting anything less than a favorable review from the next critic who turns up for a meal, the demanding chef de cuisine (head chef) who is constantly yelling at people or the neurotic sous chef who actually runs the place (because the chef de cuisine has other responsibilities) who is always looking like he's about to have a nervous breakdown and of couse there's the commie (training) chef's who are desperate to prove themselves but are also absolutely terrified of fucking up I've seen them all. For me the message of the movie is really that genuine talent is often hidden (especially in professional kitchens) and that sometimes people will surprise you with their hidden abilities, whether it's the dishwasher who has an incredible palate and can taste the smallest difference in the seasoning of a soupform batch too batch or the lowly commie chef who everyone thinks has no idea what they're doing but can perfectly cook an incredibly delicate dish like fois gras taurine or poached dover sole every time he makes it, you have to expect the unexpected and be willing to learn from those under you.
