Madeline Soto: Florida sheriff apologizes for sharing crime scene photo online

A crime scene photo that was posted on the Instagram social media account of Osceola County Sheriff Marco Lopez, appeared to show the body of Madeline "Maddie" Soto. The 13-year-old Soto was at the center of a five-day search after she was reported missing on Feb. 26. Her body was found on Friday in a wooded, rural area of Saint Cloud.

I don’t believe it was on purpose, as they have their suspect and it’s not likely they have the wrong “mom’s pedo boyfriend”. What this indicates is that they are using a cell phone to take crime scene photos, and it’s being used for other photos and for social media. THAT is unacceptable. There should be a completely separate camera, not connected to the internet, that is used specifically for crime scenes.

Why are crime scenes even allowed to have a phone 📱 on scene taking pictures? CSI professionals only with professional cameras should be allowed to photograph the scene. LOTS of LE are and have been using their own phones for years now for crime scene photography unfortunately I’ve been thru it. Not to this extent though fortunately but unfortunately they’re allowed to use and have them in their hands on scene. They have walkies and body cameras and a CSI crew I don’t get it 🤷🏼‍♀️

The sheriff needs to be FIRED. That image is all over the internet. 1) What sick individual takes photos of a sexually assaulted, murdered child? What did he intended to do with those images, take them home to look at them later while he's alone, share them amongst friends, risk having a child/family member find them? Personal cell phones are not supposed to be used at all at a crime scene because the phone itself can be taken as evidence. As officers of the law, they should be held to a higher standard, because they not only know better, they have a responsibility to serve the public and do what's right. Taking a picture of the crime scene with your personal phone shows intent of showing that image to other people not involved in the case. Just imagine how traumatizing seeing her photo by her classmates. I just know some of her freinds at school saw her picture. They need to make this wrong, right. That was done on purpose and they need to be accounatable. But one thing I hope, I just know that her mother saw the picture too. She needs to stop being in denial and start admitting that she empowered this Stephan monster into abusing and ultimately expiring her flesh and blood. The mother is not any better human than the boyfriend. They both deserve each other in jail.

I can see how it was accidentally posted... clicking little thumbnail photos to add to a post, and one is mistakenly clicked. It is good that he has apologized. However, the chain of custody and access protocol of crime photos needs to be monitored, especially in active cases. Maddie is Maddie. Lift up her spirit with lots of love.

Nie how do u do that, just frantic & thirsty for pple to see a lifeless body of a young girl, soo uncouth & unprofessional, if someone done this to his family member I bet all hell would break loose 🙃
