You're very welcome. My brother tells me I have inspired thousands of people to stop becoming actors, and (I think) is annoyed that I didn't learn the Ginger Rogers Acting Technique. But I am doing my best to contact her, and am keen to know which famous actors have used her method. Maybe Mel Gibson? Anyway, thanks for kind words. . . I am letting my brother post these replies because it's cheaper than his current psychiatrist, and thank you so much for humouring him. John Windsor-Cunningham

Thanks for your kind words. My brother's strange video about acting has caused me endless trouble. I have scores of complaints from the family of Ginger Rogers who say that in fact it was SHE who taught HIM that technique. I am planning an Off-Broadway show about using all of this for December, so you'll have to wait til the film of the show gets on Netflix to see any more of this, sorry. And thanks so much for not complaining about the scene at the end. I spent weeks trying to find another actor to stand in for my brother in the bath, but neither Cruise, Pitt nor Damon were available. Imagine how I felt. But thanks for supporting it. Yes, I'm sorry about my brother. He is an idiot. Just imagine having to sit through 3 hours of him doing Hamlet (with him using the Astaire method). I am trying to get him into a special hospital where he has no contact with the Internet, but when I tell them he wants to be an actor they say that's not enough reason in America! Huh! Very kind. Thank you. Sadly I may have to re-make this video again once more ( a second time) as my hair is rather a mess, and in England the tea-pot is supposed to the other way round - it's like somebody in the USA putting the Stars and Stripes flag upside down - so perfection is far from achieved yet, but am planning my own show Off-Broadway soon, and if that goes well I'll have another go here. Deep apologies that my brother's erratic video confused you. If your good wishes are to him, and not to me, then you should be watching the 'News', for he has been released from hospital and been trying to teach his acting methods to complete strangers on subway platforms, leading to him being twice thrown onto the tracks by scared tourists. For myself, I am in perfect health and planning an Off-Broadway production based on "MadEnglishman" for later this year, with some tickets for previews next month still available at $3,250 (in the back row). Kind of you to give me the title of just 'Mister'. I've been trying to get Americans to do that for years. And if my brother gets out of the hospital soon I'm sure both of us will do more videos. There is also a Ginger Rogers method of acting, which nearly all of the beginners auditioning for Juilliard and RADA this year (I mean the many who were coached by me) used, - tapping the rhythm of Shakespeare's lines with their hands and feet, or, of course, with a drum-kit. I'm currently trying to talk Ringo Starr into playing King Lear on Broadway. John Windsor-Cunningham

Thans for asking, but my title is really not important. I'm never quite sure if inherited titles should be used much, anyway, although it does amuse me sometimes to write "none of the above" on serious forms when they ask whether I'm Mr or Ms! And I definitely don't need people addressing me with it, so 'John" is best, thanks. John Windsor-Cunningham

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You are a master at your craft. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long while. I happened upon your videos while researching how to write better dialogue. One of my parents was born on the US West Coast and the other in northern England. While watching your accent videos I was reminded I grew up hearing some of the sounds you describe and more. In the poorer north there is a dialect where the “h” in house is dropped to produce “‘ouse”. “Nowt” & “owt” (nothing & anything) are words too. I particularly enjoyed the “layered” performance of an American acting as an Englishman at times acting as an American. Thank you for these videos and sharing your craft, Sir.

Well, thanks for kind words, Andrew. If you're studying words for actors you might enjoy Taylor Sheridan's script in the film HELL AND HIGH WATER. Yes, American, but knows his language ( ! ) Am doing a stage version of the MadEnglishman character in NY at the end of the year, as Americans go for the character even more than Brits do, so send an email to me and I'll send you its news ( jwcactor@yahoo.com ) - better than messages here. There's a Fred Astaire WRITING technique as well, but not sure yet how the method works. Of course you have to write with your feet, but easy for Brits. Anyway, best. John Windsor-Cunningham

Casting directors do often ask for 'unusual' looking people, and there are whole agencies which only sign actors who DON'T look like the average 'star'. But, yes, the business is incredibly hard, so if you've found an alternative, maybe in directing or writing or producing or running a camera or running a company, you may have more fun. If there's no fun there's no point. JOHN Windsor-Cunningham (My brother doesn't answer comments here, so I thought I would. Best wishes.)

I guess you're asking about my brother, who made that video at Christmas (2022), when he was in New York with me. You'll be sorry to hear that despite his Fred Astaire 'method' he failed to get into Juilliard this year. He claims this is because of his age, but I've told him that 94 is a perfect age to start as an actor, and I have high hopes of helping him get into RADA if I give him one more session. And hopefully he will make a video to show you how that went soon, or you can see him in the RADA showcases this summer. John Windsor-Cunningham. (Feb.2023.)

@NewYorkActingCoach
@NewYorkActingCoach Жыл бұрын
Yes. 1. Don't ask people you don't know! I don't know what your talents are, so how can I give good advice? Join a group of young actors who work on plays who are your age, and see what THEY think! . Also forget about England, unless you are capable of working incredibly hard at studying scripts, because unemployment for actors is huge, and for actors in England whose first language is not English there are even less jobs. There are far, far, far more in France. If you want help with an audition don't use this comedy website to find me,, use the 'Contact Page' on my more serious website - Windsor-Cunningham.com But really you should be DOING it,, getting on with it now., doing young parts in films and plays now. @NewYorkActingCoach
@NewYorkActingCoach Жыл бұрын
You realize this is a comedy video, right? So I'm not sure if your question is serious! There are tens of thousands of monologues out there in plays, and screenplays and "collections" which are not all bad, which you just have to keep at til you find one that particularly suits YOU, that YOU can identify with. Actors who push themselves to do that end up with success and work. Actors who don't have a hard time. Keep looking. I can't tell you which as I don't know you, and all actors are different. John

If your brother went all the way to Denmark to get a crown, he has already shown great commitment to playing Hamlet! Or perhaps he changed his mind and left the crown "hollow" on the sofa in preparation for Richard II?

Hey John, how can I begin a career acting in movies, tv, and/or commercials in a state where there doesn't seem to be many opportunities, if any around? I’m not sure where to go from this current point, but I know this is something I truly want to do, I just don't know what to do and I need help.

I suggest you use my email ( jwcactor@yahoo.com ) as this needs too long an answer to fit it in here. Because all actors are different, and it partly depends on what 'type' of part is easy for you to play already. There are courses to go on if you need to work on your voice or your understanding of scenes, and places where you can meet agents. But I'd need to know what you're like before being specific. Profound apology, only just saw your question. My brother, John Windsor-Cunningham, has re-written the 'show' 200 times, and used up most of the budget on a massive water-tank and 180 suits as he needs a different one for each performance for the 6 month 'run'. He says he's now planning the first night to coincide with his 40th birthday, and for it to be at Madison Square Garden. All I can tell you I'm afraid. (James)

Hmm: Hoping those are kind words from you, and you've not actually passed on. I have a Theatre version of this planned for New York at the end of this year, done using Fred Astair's method of writing, a technique which needs you to be able to write with your feet, - not difficult after a little practice, and easy if you are right-footed .
