Every time I watch your dad, he reminds me of my grandmother cooking in the kitchen. She passed away in 2019 and sadly a lot of her Chinese recipes passed away with her. Lately, I've been missing her and her home cooking. I know your dad's cooking will not replace my grandmother's cooking, but the recipes he cooks is very similar to hers. Thank you to you and your family for being so generous with sharing family recipes.

My mother always believed someone in the family should learn to be a good cook cause nothing brings family together more than good food. It's a shame we currently rely so much on eating out and no longer indulge in family get togethers besides on Thanksgiving. I am glad to see you steam the eggplant first so that it is not oily. My way of making it, which I tasted at a Hong Kong restaurant frequented by seniors. I steamed and seasoned it like steam fish! I bring it to potluck parties and it is always gone quickly. The only oil i put is sesame oil drizzles before serving.

This is not the first time Ive used a Made With Lau recipe and I can say that each one has been easy and tasty! I made this for dinner tonight and the flavor was awesome. My wife is a bit of a picky eater and even she went back for more. Thanks for helping me to develop some wok skills. I can now confidently produce good food thanks to the principles I've learned here.

Fun to hear your dad say Yuxiang “fish fragrant” in Cantonese. As a western guy, i try to stick to the Sichuan version as shown by Chef Wang Gang but I would love to try your dad’s food. It looks delicious. Different master, different method, so true.

I used to think I hated eggplant, but then I tried a couple of Chinese and Korean dishes with eggplant, and I realized I actually love it. My mom just didn't know how to prepare eggplant properly 😅

I'm gonna make a big batch of that sauce, bottle it, and keep it on-hand in the fridge. Could be used in a lot of dishes!

Toronto used to have a place called Peter's Chung King, which is closed now. They made "Garlic Eggplant" that was to die for. It is my favourite dish because the eggplant soaks up all the flavours. Amazing food.

Another great video. My mom would make chinese eggplant with fermented shrimp paste. My family loved it. Me, not so much. :) The family meal part is the best. Thanks
