I taught my son how to stick up for himself. I heard he was being a bully when he was about 10, and he got the belt. I will not raise a thief, liar or bully. I'm sure he felt humiliated that day, just like the kid he bullied did. That's the only time lve ever had to use physical discipline on him He's my wife and my only child and we are loving parents, however l am strict because l want him to be successful. There's no way lm raising a future thug or criminal. Old fashioned discipline produced better adults than the spoiled disrespectful soft brats of today. Last year I did some substitute teaching at various middle schools and high schools. The students not only bully each other but they bully the teachers, there's not much that can be done once it reeaches that point, I've called the principal's office in front of the students to have them come down and they keep on even once the principal is present in the room. Very disturbing situation.

When my kid was in kindergarten, he had bruises on his back and he wouldn't tell me who was hitting him. So I took out his class picture and he pointed to the kid. The biggest meanest looking kid in the picture! I called the principal the next morning and wanted a meeting with her and the kids parents. She said she wasn't going to do that and that they couldn't watch the kids every minute in the playground. Her response made me so infuriated that I went to the school and waited for that mean kid to show up and when he did his mean looking mother was holding his hand walking him into class. I confronted her and she said no, her son would never hit another kid. Then I looked at the kid with a death stare and told him to never touch my kid again and the mother started yelling at me. Then she looked at her know d and told him to apologize to my kid because she knew her kid was a bully. Her kid said "NO!". So she grabbed him by the collar and slammed him against the wall. I froze because at that moment, I knew she was an abusive mother and that was probably why her kid came to school and took it out on my kid. Needless to say, that stupid principal came and told me that she was going to have a meeting like I wanted and she said it loud enough for all the other teachers to hear to make it look like she cared and make me look like a hothead. It was many years ago but I remember it like yesterday.

My child's school only has one at the front door, the students all know that's the only one and that the back doors and side doors do not have them, so a shooter with that knowledge obviously isn't going to go through the front door with the detectors, so what's the point? Look at the headline of this video. Why is there always an obsession with the motive, as if we are on the cusp of an all-revealing explanation that will provide and antidote for prevention? She was bullied at school, or at least from her perspective she was, and she had easy access to a gun. It's the same for all school shooters. Her home life was likely chaotic too.

There have been bullies from the dawn of time, and there will be until the end. Social media has dimmed actual personal interaction skills. No one knows how to act around people in person anymore. It also seems many kids are beyond desensitized these days. These events have only skyrocketed over the past handful of years. This is all so terrible. None of this should be happening. Obviously, the girl had problems. Were her parents aware of her mental state? Was she bullied by someone and nothing was done about it? Was she having problems at home? Schools are going to have to have a full time law enforcement officer inside the school every day. Calling and waiting for help takes too long.

Parents have to take the chance of being looked at as overbearing or controlling. Get them a phone w them knowing you'll be checking it. Put blocks on certain sites on internet. No internet access on phones. Check internet history. Keep computer in main area not their bedrooms. Some games were off limits like Grand Theft Auto. We had at least 6 neighborhood kids at our home at all times. Each of those kids graduated and all recieved scholarships. They are now a anesthesiologist, nurse supervisor, dentist & captain in navy. Lost touch w with the others but I'm sure they are all doing well.
