I was born in Nashville in 76 and lived there till 84. This and the previous video really hit home for me. I had to wonder what my 4 year old self was doing when these videos were taken. 😊. I have some faint memories of Nashville during this time period. Thanks so much for sharing this.

@@John-qt9bi "This [Was] The Way" lol. HEck, only time allowed in was just after dark. Even eating lunch and sometimes dinner was on the front porch. And NO AC in that house. :)

At 6:37 this is New Hope Rd heading south toward I-24, with I-24W toward Clarksville on the right, and I-24E toward Nashville on the other side of the Interstate. You are turning right onto 41A (Clarksville Hwy) just after you cross I-24. At 8:10 we see the 41A Speedway on the right. Just past that, we see the old Sycamore Creek Bridge, which has been replaced.

What camera did you use? As far as I read, home video cameras weren't widely available until 1983. Was it some sort of commercial video camera used by newscasters or something?

@Knuteboy37 #Knuteboy37 I was only 8 lol. But all I recall is seeing "VHS" I will ask Mom / Mema and get back to ya. Thanks for watching. There is a backstory to why pops got the Camera though. He had an Art store at Harris St. and Gallatin Rd. and got the camera to expand into the dating business. His start up business for the dating / date matching was "Date Mart" a riff off Wal-Mart... which at that time I was so young seemed that Wal-Mart stole his idea of the "mart" thing. LOL

@@TimeVault1 Oh okay, you're the kid in the video. I should have known. It's easy to forget just how long ago 1980 was..lol I'm a couple years older than you. That back story makes sense as far as me thinking that was a commercial camera. He must have gotten it from a business equipment wholesaler or something. It had to be incredibly expensive for that time. I don't think an average Joe could have walked into a Sears and bought a camera like that in 1980. The quality is superior to camcorders that came out eight or so years later! Well, thanks for replying and I hope you and your family are doing well.

#Knuteboy37 @Knuteboy37 I found out what camera Pop's used. It's highly likely it was RCA. Hope ths helps? p.s. Yeah, I'm the knucklehead on the roof of the "beast".

Before camcorders there were portable vcr's and video cameras. They were sold in stores beginning around 1978/79. I had one. You wore the vcr in a pouch on your side strapped over your shoulder and rested the video camera on your shoulder which was wired to the vcr.

Thanks for asking this @knuteboy3778. I've watched 2 of these videos wondering how they were made. At the time, many people were still using super 8. In 1980, I was in middle school and none of my friends had any video eqipment. In 1982 I was in high school and my Dad bought a jvc video system for $2500 (a fortune at the time) which comprised of a separate camera, tape recorder and battery pack. Time vault's family must have been an early adopter because it wasn't until the mid-80s in Philadelphia that all my friends parents suddenly got microwaves, vcr's, push-button phones, answering machines, call-waiting feature, etc. Thanks for posting this, watching this in 2023 is mind blowing.
