Good to hear someone speaking fondly of Evans.Stellar work undertaken with Trichord research, Michell, EC audio and Anthony Matthews of Tube Distinctions over the years.Admittedly not the most robust construction, but solid enough (Supposedly the unit in question was posted without it's original crate)and as you rightly say, people don't look at PCBs when listening. Enjoy watching some of your mods too.

@@jonasDoguedeBordeaux My journey with Evans gear started after having a Trichord "clock 2" upgrade to my Arcam player many moons ago. I have ne doubt that Graham Fowler's work is great too.Probably a bit more aesthetically pleasing internally relative to Tom's stuff, hence the negative impression from the "Mend it Mark" video, which i feel does the audio performance a disservice. Both great audio engineers,I feel.

You are right about Tom Evans, its an internet pile-on, not that the copyright claim is an anyway fair or justified. But I think the scathing criticism of the product is under informed.

@logtothebase2 the tantalum capacitor was causing the problem the way it was put across as of the product measures bad 👎 which isn't true I do mods same as tom evens and if I was to open a business doing that I'd be way way cheaper

Justifiably so,TE is a 🤡 messed up his business with over price crap,he deserved to get exposed.

@johnbravo7542 I get were your coming from. People are happy to pay it Have you ever heard anything he's had his hands on ? I would never pay tons of money for hifi I'd rather mod it myself Throwing £1500 at a budget cd player to be modified which i have seen one at kingdom kens pioneer 505 with external power supply damping clock I'd rather buy a used chord tt2 with it before mods

@@jonasDoguedeBordeaux One easy little mod I did with my 505 was to disconnect the internal headphone amplifier, which improved things quite effectively,as i wasn't using headphones with it. I don't use that player anymore though since it stopped working, due to the typical laser wear. Unfortunately I don't have that much knowledge to go about performing extensive mods. Before the player stopped though I did think about the potential of replacing the NE5532 op amps for Burson discrete options, but I never got around to it. It's definitely more cost effective to mod your own if you have the knowhow.

@@johnbravo7542 All high end gear is overpriced if you look purely at the hardware. It's during demos where audio enthusiasts make their choices. The TE stuff more than stacks up against the competition even if ostensibly it's not as Impressive to look at.The important boxes and parameters needed for high sound quality will be ticked off, which is what's most important. Taking the video down backfired though,no doubt, but there's apparently more to the story than meets the eye. Damage was due to insufficient packaging and supposedly the tantalum went because the interconnect was pulled out while the unit was playing.I can't verify any of this, but I know these units are typically shipped in crates,so wouldn't receive the kind of damage shown in the video. I personally feel that it's difficult to justify any box of electronics costing more than 5k,even with huge power amps in brutish enclosures with very big transformers, which I would feel generally cost more to manufacture.
