DOOM didn’t do music that was radio friendly. There’s no hooks in his music and his songs rarely reach the 3 minute mark. He also rarely did interviews and I just think he didn’t take the industry that serious. Those r the reasons I think he remained under appreciated.
@seinenwax94jr93 жыл бұрын
100% agree. Sometimes I think it's great that some of the rappers and producers remain underrated or at least have that cult following. It kind of makes them even more of a rarity in a sense that when people find a DOOM, Madlib, Aesop Rock, etc its like a "Oh.. I didn't know this could be done before" type of reaction.

He is the MOST appreciated by real Hip Hop heads and people with good taste for music and realness. Underground has the biggest balls because it's not sugar-coated for people to like it. DOOM not taking the industry seriously is a big part of who he was as an artist. Its why he put on a mask and started calling himself the villain in the 1st place. He felt betrayed by the industry when "Black Bastards", the 2nd album he was working on with his brother, got shelved after they'd finished working on it. Reason being it was not something the label wanted and felt the album was unmarketable. This wasn't helped by his brother's sudden passing which led DOOM into a deep depression and being homeless for almost half a decade. When he eventually started his solo career under the moniker MF DOOM, he'd returned to the rap game as someone who despised the music industry. A villain to the mainstream. Dude had no intention of making it big

I was born in 87 and growing up I always felt like I missed the real golden age of hip hop because I was a young kid during the early 90’s. Don’t get me wrong, I would save up the little bit of money I could get my hands on and buy the cassette tapes and the cd’s from the chronic to enter the 36 chambers, to illmatic, but I was just a young kid who was a fan of all this powerful music that was coming out during that era. I gotta say that looking back on it now, I’m glad that through my teen years and through my early twenty’s I really got to experience life during the release of the madvillian’s and the slum villages, the donuts era and all of that. I think the album to kick all of that stuff off in m eyes was doomsday. It’s crazy looking back on it now with dilla’s passing 15 years ago, and doom being gone, that era is over. It’s gotta be tough for madlib but at the same time he’s really still one of the most relevant producers putting out music and creating albums with in my opinion the greatest artists of this era. The stuff he did with gibbs is some of the best stuff out and is still as relevant if not more now as far as shaping the landscape and taking the culture in a direction that pushes the boundaries while staying true to the foundation and staying real. Props to madlib. A legend. Rip DOOM. Rip Dilla

Madlib is a man of very few words but those words carry infinite wisdom. I respect him for keeping a low profile and choosing to remain under the radar. Despite that, he is an underground giant and one of the best hip hop producers ever. As far as the album goes, “Madvillainy” belongs in a hip hop museum. Crazy to think that it came out way back in 2004 and it still plays like it is brand new even to this day. The sample choices are obscure and well thought out. It is extremely unique as there is nothing that sounds even remotely close to it. I love the short length song concept. Despite that, the number of samples used on this is insane so there was clearly a ridiculous amount of effort put into the crate digging by Madlib. My favorite tracks: Fancy Clown, Eye, Rhinestone Cowboy, Accordion, Raid, Money Folder, Sickfit, Do Not Fire! And All Caps. My Rating: 10/10 - A certified all time classic! Great video and thanks for having him on!
