Its worth noting that this thing does something different then what the Mclassic is doing. This this puts it up to as close to true 4k as you can get. Mclassic does up to 1440p and you can set it to do some Anti Aliasing of jaggies. You will notice this in games like Code of Pincess EX where the Mclassic Smoothing really makes it look less ugly. Where as this will just sharpen it to hell. They seem to solve a problem from different directions. If this goes on sale for like a 100, I might get one and check if it daisy chains well with Mclassic and see if I can get the best of both worlds. How well does this work on PS3 and Xbox360 though?

The mcable I have works wonders. I initially bought it for my psvr, which upscales the graphics so much. I then used it for the Dreamcast and ps3 as well. It's alright. On the Switch it makes very little difference.

We’ve had some good results using the Framemeister with the Switch setting Sharpness to 1 or 2, then putting the sharpness on the OLED up about half way. 😮. If you have these options I’d recommend giving it a go before dropping cash on something else. I’ll be trying the PS3 next.

The only way to tell for sure that it's really working is to test 2 Switches side by side on the exact same type of display, and compare the dongle in 1080p mode with a direct connection from the other Switch. My guess is they're just muddying up the signal when you're on "1080p" so their supposed 4K mode looks better.

I've seen the results, I can see its singular use case for upscaling to 4k to be useful for 4k displays that have too much delay when upscaling to 4k, when using other systems (like the PS3 for example) you may need another upscaler as the PS3 with 720p games has a tendency to NOT upscale said 720p games, so you may want a HDMI upscaler (which is where daisy chaining the mcable or mclassic comes in)

Switch games look fine on my oled tv. Mariokart at 1080p 60fps upscales nice and clean with the sharpness all the way off. I've just accepted the Switch is what it is. If a Switch Pro comes out that uscales to 4k that would be nice but I cant justify buying this

I noticed a weird screen door effect on the “upscaled” dragon quest comparison. Is this normal when using the device? Or is this just from the camera vs tv?

It looks like it just turn up the sharpness setting...not actually enlarging the polygons to get a sharper and smoother edge. If it has an anti-aliasing feature to smooth those jaggy edges, it might help to justify that price.

It seems to put a square grid on that characters face and make the edges of objects more jagged making the image worse, the particle effects are less blurry though. Im not convinced this is worth the steep price tbh. I bet it lags whilst doing this as well.

People don't realize you can do this already if you have an Xbox one s, just connect the device in the HDMI IN port then use the TV app & set it to upscale image to 4K. Been doing it for years with my Nintendo Switch & anything else I want in 4K

I also have the MClassic it only outputs 1440P on a computer monitor not a TV unless your TV does 1440P which is rare. On a regular TV it does nothing, still outputs in 1080P like the Switch normally does.

Just looks more aliased? It can not increase the rendering resolution. That just comes down to how the game is coded?! It can only be an upscaler really and could be benifitial if the TV does the scaling really badly? But I could see how this would be benifitial with the mcable. But I presume mcable works better in general with lower resolutions where heavi aliased picture becomes a real problem.

When I try to capture gameplay with the elgato 4k60 s+, using the gamer+ gives me a totally oversaturated image in the recording, although on screen it looks great. Anybody know a solution for this?

What that thing is doing is running a sharpening pass through it and calling it upscaled. I'm pretty sure if you have a decent 4K TV such as a Samsung or a good Sony the built-in upscaler will do pretty much the same job.

mine does not show 4k! only the same out put as the game console. 720 same 1080 same. but the mclassic shows 1440 all console all tvs 4k ,8k & non 4k tvs .

Ok, I admit it, I am shocked. No hatchet. I definitely don't think it is worth it though. The 1080p blurs the jagged edges of the pixels to make it look smoother, and the "4K" just sharpens the image by removing that blur so you can see all the jaggies in their full glory. I prefer the blur, but I guess that's just my personal preference.

I did some experimenting on my computer by playing video games and videos at resolutions from 720P up to 5K. With my eyesight, which is about 20/30, on a 27-inch screen, I could not tell a difference between 1080P and higher. We are talking about levels of detail that are hard to perceive. I personally like 1440P, not that it was really an improvement over 1080P. It is maybe for me more psychological that I think that 1440P is better. Even if you have 20/20 vision and a 60-inch screen, you are going to be sitting further back, whereas I sit very close to my 27-inch screen. Can people really tell a difference with 4K on a big-screen TV? Many years ago somebody made a video about how 4K was unnecessary because the resolution of the human eye was not going to tell the difference. If it is unnecessary on a 55-inch TV, then it is probably unnecessary on a smartphone. I bought an iPhone 10R, which has a sub-1080P resolution, yet I never notice the resolution being too coarse.

I can absolutely tell the difference between a game running natively in 4K on a 4K display between a native 1080p in any size and sitting position. The differences are so huge you would have to have eyesight far worse than 20/30 not to see it. Further, 1440p can get you a "like" 4K resolution only if you're using something like DLSS to clean it up. It will still be lacking in detail once you side-by-side it. Addendum- We (fiancee and I) switched to 4K quite a while ago and the only 1080p thing left we have is the Switch. When Nintendo decides to join us in this decade we're going to dump it as well. What I can't see is the difference between 4K and 8K.

@@john2001plus That's not what I said...I said a 1440p picture needs DLSS to look as good as a native 4K picture. However, side-by-side you will still see a difference. I tell you the best place to see what a native 4K resolution does to a 1080p one...go check out The Matrix Experience Demo on a Series X/PS5/PC through a 4K display vs. The Matrix Experience on a 1080p screen and it will become night and day. Another good place is those damn nature shows that are made 4K native. I don't typically watch that stuff but when we bought our first 4K display not much supported it but oh my God it was like going from 420p to 1080p was back in...2005/2006. Oh and have you ever looked at a 1080p or lower resolution on a 4K screen? Yuck. That is where 1440p shines the brightest. It's like the odd middle man that's just now seeing wide support. To be honest I have never seen a 1440p TV for sale. Only monitors. Addendum- Some higher end 4K screens will clean up a 1080p picture. Like a Samsung QLED.

I want everyone to have the absolute best experience they can and too me, there is nothing better than playing new games in 4K. Just like the absolute best way to enjoy retro is running all CRT, if you can. Addendum- Here is the problem a lot of people are having with this new generation of gaming. All of us from early adopters to ones that are taking their time have been royally screwed so far. Because of COVID and scalpers the 8th generation has shackled us. Thankfully, that is beginning to finally end as we're now starting to see games that are built for these 4K machines/video cards in mind. By this time next year there truly will be no comparison and the jump from the 8th to the 9th is going to floor people. I only know this because I have had the rare opportunity to see what is possible with the new consoles/PC's and 4K screens. It is absolutely jaw dropping what they can do and I want you to experience this as well.

I don't understand this dragon people chase. I am happy playing my consoles at the resolution built in. But! I do have many of my consoles modded. I do have HDMI for Dreamcast. I like a clean picture. I am willing to pay to have clarity. I play most of my stuff on an HD CRT. It looks great. I don't buy the frame meisters or the other expensive converters. If resolution really mattered to me I would emulate everything on a PC. This dragon is an expensive one. Relax and have fun. Opinion: I'm sure I have a dragon that you feel is not worth chasing

This isn't doing anything to increase the resolution, it's just applying a sharpening filter. Save your money and turn up the sharpness setting on your screen for the same effect, do not buy this garbage.

Sure it upscales the details...so does every modern TV/monitor if a person bothers to go into the settings for 2 seconds and you know...."read stuff". This is for lazy people who don't know their own TV's can do a better job. It's just "motion clarity" and contrast etc. Any modern TV within the last 5 or so years can actually process these games better internally than something like this. With these games you're not looking for ping times and stuff, it's not competitive gaming. Go ahead, try it! Go into your TV settings!
