The problem with Russia’s hard power is it tends to piss off other countries who’ll use the first opportunity to leave you.

Add the fact that multiple times USSR and Russia asked to join NATO, so it wouldn't felt threatened and declined, because NATO is Anti-Russian alliance at it's core, even if it afraid of saying so directly. It's in fact Russia's fault that many states, that it previously controlled are moving to The West block. Russia has a lot of opportunities to grow as a global superpower to magnet other countries with Soft Power: A lot of natural resources, that the whole of Europe resort to A lot of bright minds, that are unwelcomed, bullied, underpaid and unrecognized by the state A lot of potential man-power, even though aging But there's historical problems and current political problems, as in like Higherups not giving a damn about the middle segment of power is doing, and it's mainly corrupt actions, just like what the Higherups are busy with. The lack of proper political life, power and will in people left this country with a cursed man ruling it. A lot need to be changed, but in mind of Russians no one is willing to do that, rather leaving it for someone else.

In the wake of the bloodbath in Ukraine, could Russia keep on losing allies? Could the CSTO and EAEU cease to exist indefinitely?
@MadMacGeopolitics2 жыл бұрын
Potentially, but Russia would put an end to any dissent in its ranks, at least in the near term.

Thank you... as i try to look at things through a hippie lens... for many living in former Soviet republics, there is a sense of nostalgia of the "good old days of the USSR"... a sense of "shared identity" within diversity ..

@@Tanriquli well the Turks and Azerbaijanis are basically the same ethnic people. Difference only being Turks are sunnis and Azerbaijanis are Shias. But due to both being less on the religious side and more on the nationalistic side the get pretty close. Culture is the reason why they are so close.

what I see happening to Russia, is taht it loses the Ukraine war, Russia loses control of its former USSR neighbours who align themselves with China Turkey and or USA. Russia goes thru a time of troubles 2.0 and the new Russia emerges as a decentralized state with Oligarchs and their PMCs ruling the country.
@Lawliet_____ Жыл бұрын
You also forgot to mention the Turkic union wich also has a influence on central asia.

Russia's situation is quite dire since time is against Russia. Russian army already is suffering substantially from drone attacks, and in future where not only drones, but every war machines would be controlled remotely by humans, not including AI enhanced robotic soldiers in modernized arimes will make millions of russian conscript based soldiers useless. That is why russia is failing in soft power, because cremlin administration understands that in 20-30 years AI tech and computer tech will develop even more further, so much that nations that produce microchips and AI bots will get extremely rich. And russia does not and can not produce any of those independently, and in future it will be dependant in asian countries technology wise. And now while it has huge economy via natural resource exports, Russia is trying to keep its prorussian people in neibhouring post soviet union countries as much as it is possible.

You're ignoring one important aspect here - ideology. Russian society historically had an element of ethnosupremacism and racism towards it's neighboring countries. This is why it never tried to repair it's reputation with it's neighbors as many Russians believe that Russia should not deal as equals with what they consider to be inferior races. The reasons for invading Ukraine seem to be more rooted in fascism and racism than geopolitics if you look at Russian state propaganda.
@MadMacGeopolitics2 жыл бұрын
A lot of that ideology stretches back centuries and I think it’s safe to say they learned some of their conquering ways from their time under mongol rule

This is why Putin apologized to Israel for Lavrov's quote that "Hitler had jewish blood"?This has nothing to do with racism,of fascism.Putin just plays geopolitics.If it had smth about races than Putin would had allied with west against Global South,but he did other way around.
