One of the greatest things about the internet is the fact that us introverts have outlets where we are able to express ourselves more freely, openly, and easily than in our offline lives. That said, definitely looking forward to the Renaissance Faire. The crowds can be a bit overwhelming, but going in with a plan makes the time there easier. This time around, I was thinking about going as an herbalist (poisoner). Made a vendor's day last year by buying a set of bongos of all things...at a Renaissance Faire.

I've worked as a bartender, a server, a host, and a barista over the course of many years. Being a host is the absolute worst, I would never do it again. Barista is slightly better, at least I enjoy making coffee drinks and working early mornings. Being a server REALLY depends on where you work, I've had many crap server experiences and some great ones. But I honestly really miss being a bartender. It was the best job I've ever had and the only time I enjoyed going to work. I loved making drinks, being able to have more freedom with my work flow, being able to get know people on a deeper level, being able to KICK PEOPLE OUT if they're pissing me off and not having to be "nice" for nice's sake, the money is usually great, and getting free drinks is a plus. I also just like the cozy vibes of a good pub. I've also been quite lucky and have never had to work for a corporate place (except one time and I only lasted a couple of months before quitting)

Just a heads up as someone with pretty bad social anxiety (because you mentioned feeling too inhibited to go to a ren faire), if you have a good group of friends to go with and you all coordinate outfits (or at least know what everyone in your group is going to wear) it’s a lot of fun to dress up and go to a Ren Faire. The vast majority of attendees dress up in costumes that range from bounding to cosplay and in my experience, the type of people that go are super accepting and fun. Highly recommend!

I'm a massive introvert (like I usually score around the 97-98% mark) but I work in a shoe shop so you're dealing with people close up all the time. I enjoy it, because they're mostly shorter interactions within the framework of the situation. There's always conversation to fall back on if you need it. I actually find that way less stressful than social things with friends or strangers where there's nothing there to 'keep the conversation going'. I like being with friends but I'll often be there quietly enjoying the company and not engaging constantly. It's much better than the year I worked in a cafe where there was way too much to keep track of. People coming up and ordering one at a time is easier to manage than lots of people who all think they should be priority because everyone is the centre of their own universe. I'd probably be ok in a coffee shop over a bar, because the queue is much more organised and people wait their turn 😆

I've always wanted to open a bed and breakfast but have it be fantasy themed. Like, guests stay in little cottages and it's all in the woods and maybe host events for tabletop or larping and stuff. The main house that you get your food at and such is styled after a Tavern and stuff. It's been a whole idea I've had for a few years now.

My mom encouraged me to take a job in retail while I was in high school. I hated it at the time and it was at a school clothing store so over the holidays it was crazy busy. I was working with impatient customers, tired co-workers and a hellish boss. Now working at a small company, doing work I enjoy with co-workers and a boss I get along with (most of the time), I realise I use those skills of dealing with angry customers and juggling projects and stress so much better than those my age who didn't. I don't thing anyone wants those crappy retail jobs or wants to work with a million clients a day, but man can it be a huge learning opportunity.

Yes yes yes! All of this! I worked retail for most of my working life (20ish years). It teaches you soooo much. And one of the biggest lessons I took away from it all? How to treat other retail workers!! No one *wants* those jobs, but I feel like working in the service industry for like 6 months should be a requirement for everyone, simply for the lessons in humanity and patience.

Yes, like legit I think it should be a requirement for everyone at adulthood to do a stint in retail, (food) service industry, customer service, and warehousing. Mandatory, cannot opt out. Required every 20 years so you can't grow old and forget. And hell, I'm an introvert with SAD advocating for that 😆 really think it would be beneficial.

4:05 I had two places like that where I used to live. I mustered the courage to get in, being older than most there, and had a blast with board games and coffee drinks. I know I have at least one similar place near me now, but I've been such a hermit lately and, well, now I'm even older than their clientele 😂 I have been to a Star Wars themed cantina AND a medieval pub near me though. Very cool. No board games or D&D going on there though, just themed munchies and drinkies. I've also been to a ren faire held in a university campus AND a Vampire: the Masquerade LARP. Have always been a nerd. 🤓 BTW the butterbeer at Disneyworld is not worth it, just an overly sweet foamy drink...

I work in a jewellers, I love the job but it’s one of those where you have to serve everyone the entire day. Because obviously people are coming to buy wedding rings and stuff. It is amazing but you have to smile and be nice all day. Even with the annoying snobby customers

I don’t LARP but I go to the medieval fairs anytime they’re in town. I don’t dress up but plenty of other people do and it’s good fun. Feels like you’re in another world. And the jousting! It may not be as dangerous cause they aren’t trying to kill each other but the horses thundering down the field makes for a powerful show.

I definitely agree I would go as a villain to any type of LARP. I always thought like the actors who get to play like the villains in movies and shows are having the most fun. Because it's so different from who you are in real life. There is no way anyone can tell me that Ursula's voice actor wasn't having the most fun with the performance LMAO I would definitely practice an evil laugh though and I would maybe come up with a convoluted evil plan so that way anytime I see a hero I can start a fight.

As to answer your question about barrista/bartender, I have been a waitress and did lots of bartending for around 15 yrs and I personally do it for the adrenaline rush. When you're real busy adrenaline kicks in and damn that's addictive. On the opposite tho if it's real quiet I usually go home. I'd rather spend time with my dog 😅 I am the nightmare of my boss cauz I will close the restaurant at 10pm(instead of midnight) if I feel like it and there's nobody coming in🤣. And on another note, I dunno what happened to you for having such a low self-esteem but damn YOU'RE THE BEST stop doubting yourself. I'm late to this, but I'm a goth girlie who loves to do a full face (if I'm not going on a hike or kayaking) and it can feel like a mask. I feel like there is a significant difference between how I look with and without makeup, but not in a "better/worse" manner. My makeup'd face is the mask I show to strangers, people I don't know and don't want to be vulnerable with. Without makeup I feel a lot more exposed and anxious unless I'm with people who make me feel...safe. I never wear makeup while listening to you 😊

In the united states, we have a lot of themed bars/pubs, and also coffee shops! I think hyper specific things like "Star Wars Cantina" aren't exactly common because of licensing/copyright and such, but I have seen more general themes, like nerdy stuff, horror theme, science theme, fantasy theme, astrology/magic theme, video game/arcade theme, etc. I actually even know someone who owns an arcade bar.

I havenever been a bartender, but I have been a barista, and a waitress for many years. I have worked both for corporate and small family owned. At a corporate job, you have anuff people for the amount of customer's. Example you have a host, waitresses/waiters, cooks, dishwashers and so on. So I find this to be less stressful, however you do have to do the corporate lingo, and it's annoying. At family owned places for example I might be the hosts, dishwasher, waitress, and to go person. The cook is often the only other person in the building. This is very frustrating to both me and the customers when busy. However I must say that I enjoyed the atmosphere so much better. So it's a trade off. And unfortunately corporate often pays much better. I once had a slow job, I stood at a cash register for 8 hours. And I might have 1 customer a day, if that. I was required to look busy, but couldn't leave the register. I will say that the table beside it glows from my polishing all day. I hated it. Now I worked as a manager for a family owned subway once, best job I ever had. I could help when busy and hid in the back doing prep (very mind numbing) when I wanted to. I have found that I really enjoy mind numbing jobs, yes I will polish your silver all day, clean the nity gritty no problem... But I hate dishes, lol. I am very outgoing, so I enjoy people and those kinda jobs, but I have days when people are just too much as well. Found that I need something to do at work, I don't enjoy being bored, helps the time pass. I always just wanted to have a balance. Guess that's why I work for myself now. I have the luxury of being live and working with people or just being Recluse and making videos.

32:03 It really depends on the person. Not everyone is putting makeup on to enhance the way they look. It could be just for fun, for the art of it, makes you feel more yourself, Self-Expression, Maybe just to add some color. At times it's seen as an accessory for your outfit. Imagine wearing a really colorful, interesting outfit and then having a blank face it sort of makes The outfit feel lopsided in a way. There are people who do it for others but I wouldn't say that is a great reason. You could say it's a costume but I feel like things are always going to be a costume if you don't look the way you feel.

I really prefer independent/mom and pop shops. I've mostly only worked corporate run places and they always suck 😭 I've done retail, food service, and grocery, and the people are just rude to be rude. But the small places are the best. I worked at this small joint in my home town for 4 years, and up until a few months at the end, it was fantastic. I transitioned in that shop and my coworkers were great about respecting my pronouns. No place has been quite the same, mostly very negative. But at that shop, I loved our regulars. I'm a very introverted person, but I know people, and I loved our regulars. It was so easy to have a conversation with them and not feel uncomfortable

The cosmetics, it's a good questions you ask - it's a way of *creating* an alternate version of your face. It's not like a mask, because I'm still identifiable... but it's a version. Often cosmetic do-ups work by re-drawing the face - and it can use a ton of makeup but be very naturalistic, or it can a modest amount yet be outrageous.

Just jumping on the renesanse fairs, the UK and europe in general does them even better than most american (us and canada). Heck, germany is actually one of the countries that is known for its fairs and how realistic they are (and they are often held in and around castles). But also ireland and england themselves are really good in these fairs! Also, you dont have to get dressed to go, as many dont. But it is a nice added bonus. Many of the events are free for entree, so you can just try one out. If you like it, also a lot are with tickets, but than its really a full camp and fair experience, a full emmersion, so if you like the idea of this game, definetly go to one!

My family goes to Renaissance faires in July and go to the Bristol Ren Faire in wisconsin. Im always a half orc half hobbit warrior. When my kids were younger they liked to dress up. Now they are preteens and are in that whole zone but they admit they still really like going every year. I say by time they are in their 20s they may want to dress up again.

As someone who has been a barista and am now a bartender, it really depends on the place! I’m inclined to say bartending is harder because you’re dealing with drunk people on top of the actual labor of it, but I’ve been a bartender way longer than I was a barista. Of course the money is WAY better as a bartender 😅

I know that we have a Pop up bar that has themes in Edinburgh. They had a Harry Potter theme as well as others.

we have player 1 bar here in vegas. its a gaming bar where they have things from ps2/xbox360 to ps5/xbox1 and old retro games like donkey kong and pacman, pinball machines, unique drinks, food, anime themed nights, the workers are forced to cosplay everyday, lots of people love playing fighting games on the big tvs at the bar against each other. amazing amazing place.

I am a larper. It may be different in the UK, but where I used to do it in the States before moving to Australia, each LARP had its own character building system and theme/world. Like D&D but actually dressing up and going out into the woods.
