Very nice vid, Madnes. Very helpful. One question that came to my mind while you were talking about residential housing: From my understanding, it was common practice for craftsmen to live in an apartment upstairs from their shop/business, particularly in more crowded areas. How does this factor into your advice? Also, what are your thoughts about apartment buildings, which have been around since Roman times, in this sort of setting?

Madnes, I just wanted to praise your style again. I've said it before but no one else I've ever seen builds with such confidence and control, yet with such a flair for "significance", if that makes any sense. It's like...you don't build the buildings in and around your city for the sake of doing so, but everything you create has relevance and a reason for existing. Also, the ship you show floating above the colosseum at 5:26 is utterly gorgeous.

Great video madness! One question: How do you decide the style or shape of each individual building? like do you research what that certain building would look like in medieval times, or do you just know a lot about history and architecture and just build what you think it would look like?

I think you should talk about giving the buildings an unique look,or/and on how to make a city look good from the street angle, that last one is something people almost never do, they always fly around but rarely make a walk through the streets and alleys. Or/and about how to make a city look alive both in the exterior(plazas,streets,etc) and in the interior(inside a shop, a house interior,etc) I love your videos madness and specially this kind of videos. thanks a lot for making them.-yubyub96

The code that is randomly generated to create a new world, this can also be manually inputted before creating a new world if you wanted to share that world across platforms(consoles, PCs, ect.). Random seeds are always numbers but you can type in words to form a seed as well. If you were being sarcastic then I regret nothing and hope both of us long and happy lives.
@zukodark11 жыл бұрын
I really like these videos alot more than the building tutorials, as they tell how to build yourself, rather than telling how you build that certaint house. As you said before, randomness is important. None wants a copied house over and over again.

i have an idea for a mod. when you go on singleplayer (or host a multiplayer) you can select what city you could spawn in(stone-wood, desert, underground...).the city would be huge(walled city mod for example) and the houses would have interior furniture. you could also defend your town with siege weapons, horses and soldiers that you can customize(warfare mod for example)but also you could have ships to councer other islands. but also you could use block to instant generate structures(castles)

I really enjoyed this video. I have trouble building cities because I always want to lay it all out in my head first and try and put everything in exactly the "right" place. That doesn't really work out very well at all. Of course I'm OCD so I have trouble making things non-symmetrical. I'll be launching a Minecraft KZbin channel in February so maybe I can start to work myself out of that and do more unsymmetrical builds.

"Instead, let me demonstrate how not to place something" .. That made me laugh. Especially with the over obvious market stall on a tree. I enjoy your videos a lot and use your designs when building. I really need to focus on one then and start my city. I always start with two or three houses, then a church and... lose my way. I think it gets overwhelming trying to figure out where to place the next build and what to build next.

I always begin with thé castle, because the cities, before trading became an important part of the european society, were meant to protect a noble family and their people. So I think cities first developped around the castles that were a shelter during sieges, and then the markets were implemented.

I know this sort of isn't what you generally do but I'd be really interested in what medieval types of redstone uses can sort of be seemingly natural in a medieval setting? Where to put it and what not to do. By this I mean for example a wheat farm with a windmill and hidden redstone in small scale. May be completely the wrong request for your channel but just throwing it out there. -lover of both medieval and redstone

Thank you for posting this. I am kinda curious how you plan things on the smaller level, like in a town block or market square level. Even if you could do that, I doubt you'd want to... All the chairs would go into the upright position, all the top half slabs would become bottom half slabs, and that's just best case scenario, worst case is it corrupts your minecraft and you have to delete it
