Apparently, she was suddenly reminded of something she has always known, and she suddenly wanted to end their relationship even though *NOTHING HAS CHANGED* from when she was super happy with him, that same day.

@@iamepic6726 I have not read the comics, but I did see that Invincible was the writer's first work, and he's also heavily involved with the writing of the show. It is reasonable to think the changes in writing are due to the author having grown as a writer and trying to improve on the original work. It's because of this that I don't think Omniman is "holding back" in the show, but that him being weaker is a deliberate choice to make fight scenes more interesting. Having him take genuine damage and seen him struggle during fights gives viewers hope that he could be defeated, which gives a greater impact to when he inevitably wins. If there's even the slightest perceived chance that he can be defeated, viewers are invested, whereas if he was seemingly untouchable, there's the chance viewers would feel apathetic due to expecting him to win without a struggle.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's somehow more intimidating to know that a character has really insane limits than no limits at all. Like in the anime Darwin's game when a character was asked if he could beat a tank and he had to specify "only if it's one on one" or when thanos goes "all that for a drop of blood"

Robert Kirkman expressed the same in a podcast interview that as he was writing Invincible and grew as a writer, he realized certain early aspects of the story and characters he would have writter differently had he known better at the time, so he's implementing some of those changes now with the show. As a comic reader I agree with all the changes he's made so far. The story building up to this conversation with Nolan and Mark has been much more engrossing. Also, Debbie was written a lot better and plays a much bigger role here than in the comic. Which is much appreciated.

He literally ends an entire world-wide civilization in episode 2, completely destroying the Flaxans, but in the comics, he did not. The Flaxans literally imprisoned Omni-Man for a time and when he broke loose he destroyed some cities.

Amber is being a bit unfair. They've only been dating for five or so months. A secret identity is something that can't be revealed so carelessly. And the fact that she figured out his identity and still gave him shit, despite knowing that he's been saving the world and literally almost died recently, seems a bit toxic. Yes, Mark could handled things better. He has allies that could've handled crimes, giving him the time to be with Amber. And if things really went to shit, then he could make an excuse and dip. But him revealing his identity so soon into their relationship is a big no-no. He should've have waited at least a year.

I think one of the biggest problems that Amber has in calling Mark out like that is that, unlike Eve, she really doesn't have the perspective of what it means to have to conceal your identity out of fear for the lives of your loved ones. Granted, Eve is fairly crass about the issue when it's brought up, but is not quite as hard on Mark as William or Amber are. Eve sorta had it easy starting out because Rex _also_ happened to have superpowers, so there's less risk of one or the other coming to harm if identity were exposed. That being said, Mark _was_ rather foolish trying to pursue a relationship without being fully prepared to admit or commit; it's a consequence of being human, wanting human connection, but also being more than human in capability. All the same, Amber was less than understanding considering each time he goes out as Invincible is a fight he might not walk away from. Of course, being a superhero, Mark is not always insightful on William's or Amber's perspectives, and was not even bothering to drop hints - he's not entirely blameless, but to pin everything on him regarding his relationship with Amber going south is unfair.

It's interesting seeing the inspiration for some of the characters. The Immortal is basically a Superman version of Vandal Savage. Monster girl is their take on the Hulk. Rex Splode is basically a reimagining of the old X-Men character Gambit. Atom Eve has some serious Jean Grey vibes. You can really see where they drew inspiration from. Machine Head even gave me Black Mask vibes.

Basically, she was upset that Mark had been lying to her for so long and I think the sentiment goes back to what Eve mentioned earlier in the season where if he tells her, he has to make sure he's serious. So from Ambers' perspective, Mark has been flaky, lying, and not taking their relationship seriously, and so when things finally seem over and Mark tells her the truth, it doesn't matter anymore because the fact that he had been lying to her face for so long was enough to call it quits for Amber. At least that's kinda what I got from what we've seen so far. Hope that helps at all
