I think, nowadays, we will never understand how huge she was at that time, she literally was the Queen of the Universe! And she reached that level of fame without social media and the internet. These days, we have Taylor Swift ruling the charts, but she will never be as huge as Madonna, never.

I agree. I was 18 in 1991 so I saw her rise to fame and just how huge her fame was. I have never seen that since. Taylor is big, but not Madonna big. We have a lot of female artists now all vying for that fame so it splits that fame up. In 1991 we had Madonna, Janet, Whitney, Paula Abdul, Mariah was just coming on the scene as was Celine. Cathy Dennis was big for a second. Tiffany and Debbie were pretty much over. Madonna was everywhere.

Yeah, it’s hard to grasp for people born with social media, and sometimes for myself too, how amazing it is she got so famous. That is only because of dedication, talent and hard work. Maybe Taylor Swift would have done the same. Imo you can’t compare or judge artists using the tools that are at hand. She must be a great artist and boss lady too.

I just think for the younger generation Taylor Swift is as big for them as Madonna for “us” although I don’t know your age☺️ I was only trying to add more context for people who might read all the comments like me😏 I’ve been a fan since I was a kid, 1985, so Madonna will always be the best thing ever happened to pop music in my eyes(and Prince). MTV 10th Anniversary is one of my favorite things ever! It was a big show, promoted for weeks, promising new performances by several top artists. We were burning with curiosity to know what Madonna would perform and then she turned in that improv monologue...the most unexpected thing imaginable...and it was fabulous! And I adore brunette Madonna...so chic and striking. Evita didn't end up happening until 1996, after going through several reworkings with different directors and even a continuing question of who would play the lead. Despite her confidence here, waiting until everything was just right was absolutely the best thing that could've happened.

There are two interviews everyone missed for Truth or Dare: one is with MTV’s Kurt Loder, Dinner with Madonna and the other is a morning Interview with Regis Philbin, I think is called Breakfast with Madonna? It’s shot in B&W and is very cool. Also, her hair is brown, not for Evita ( that comes 5 yrs later) but, likely for two different films & a Broadway play she was doing during this time period.

She was prepping for Evita at this time as it was in pre-production in 1991 with Jeremy Irons and Antonio Banderas but it fell apart and that was when she dyed her hair brunette. She had been attached to Evita multiple times. First in 1986/87 with Oliver Stone and then 1990/91 and eventually she won the part again in 1995 and it was finally made in early 1996.

"i never asked you to name an award after me, did i?" story like this; In 1989, Madonna was awarded the Artist of the Decade by a poll of MTV viewers in recognizing her achievement during the 1980s. Her fellow pop star Michael Jackson had become angry when Madonna received that honor. He telephoned his attorney John Braca to complain that Madonna did not deserve such an honor. He said, "See, it makes me look bad. I'm the artist of the decade. Did she outsell Thriller? No!" In response to his client's agitation, Branca suggested that they approach MTV with the idea of a fictional award they could give to Michael. They decided to name it as Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Michael liked the introduction of the award, and commented, "That'll sure teach that heifer", referring to Madonna. Later that year, in MTV's 10th anniversary short film, Madonna responded, "I never asked you [MTV] to name an award after me, did I?", "MICHAEL WHO?"

It's audio only but if you want an excellent interview covering alot of her life you should jump ahead on your own if you want and listen to her 2015 interview with Howard Stern. I waited AGES for her to finally go on his show because he's one of the best interviewers on the planet. I wish she would go back on so bad. Also an excellent interview is her 2013 (I think) interview with VICE. It goes really in depth
