The teal satin shirt and low slung velvet trousers Madonna wore were indeed the latest and greatest thing in fashion. Fresh off the Gucci runway from one of Tom Ford's first collections for the house, which he took from a dusty outdated brand and made into a fashion powerhouse. Many people subsequently wore that outfit (or a knockoff version) but she was the first.

Actually, the outfit that Madonna wore to the awards show was head to toe Gucci, so she was dressed very well and especially so, if you see how others were dressed at that show. Lol

I love Courtney! people forget that this interview was in 1995. one year after Kurt Cobains dead. of course courtney was a mess. but a funny one! and madonna tried to sign björk and courtney for her recordlabel in 1994 but both declined. so this was a reason she was pissed too i think.

If/When you get to Janet Jacksons "Janet" album from 1993 (hopefully you will) you will understand why Bedtime stories pissed her off. I love Madonna but Janet 100% pioneered that hip hop/r&b/ pop sound that you love that Madonna used on Bedtime Stories the year previous. She felt like Madonna was copying her.

Hi , in Reata' there are other songs that are part of Bedtimestories Feedom which was discarded from the album and included in a charity compilation, then C' e Your Honesty inserted as a bonus ttrack of a compilation of remixes in 2003. The original demo with 2pac is very different from this one you heard while Love Won T Wait and a demo then given to Gary Barlow of Take That for his first solo album

So funny seeing how moments from the past get interpreted when the context is lost. You mentioned madonna not wearing some major designer or something, but that 'basic' top and pants was by Tom Ford for Gucci and was from one of the most important fashion collections of the 90s, so although it may look simple now, at the time it was a bold statement because it was the beginning of bringing back a kind of sleek late 60s/early 70s glamour which we hadn't had for two decades. I remember when the collection and campaign first came out and it blew us all away, then when Madonna wore one of the outfits head to toe at these awards she was really cementing her position as a major fashion icon. Also if you do look into Courtney Love I think you'll find her to be extremely intelligent, but unfortunately rather troubled and obviously has had her share of addiction issues. At the time that kind of car crash television was eaten up by the public with gusto, but I think since the death of princess Di and the downfall of celebrities like Anna Nicole Smith and more recently Amy Winehouse people have come to, rightly, view it as exploitative and in bad taste.

Wow, that is actually insane, and like you said how simple it looks now compared to then haha. I do love that she was in head to toe designer, because that's what I expected from her, so regardless of how it looks now, she was still living up to the icon that I think she is 🥰

I do remember watching this interview with Ray Martin, all those years ago. What I would say is that Australian Journalists or interviewers, did seem to do a much better job of connecting with the interviewees. Mike Munro and Molly also connected well with Madonna in particular and you could see how relaxed she was with them. Ray Martin was very similar to Michael Parkinson. That’s why they also connect with their audience, people like them and they don’t seem as arrogant as other reporters.

Although the unreleased songs *Never Love a Stranger* and *I'll Be Gone* were produced by Madonna and Babyface during the Ray of Light album sessions they are incredible songs and sonically they totally match Bedtime Stories! *Never Love a Stranger* gives me *Take a Bow* vibes and with a finished production it would have been a hit! Also you can't miss the song *Freedom* from this era officially released on the album *"Carnival! - The Rainforest Foundation"*

That look Madonna was sporting at the MTV music awards was literally the hottest designer look of the moment - from the first Tom Ford collection for Gucci, the looks from that collection catapulted him and Gucci to the forefront of the fashion world and Madonna wearing head to toe Gucci at the awards show didn't hurt....Madonna was the first of many who wore that look. Although there were a few other color combinations of the look, the one worn by Madonna was directly off the runway.

TO BE FAIR TO JANET back in the day, society at large was in a very difference place, and Madonna's antics were not well received by a lot of people within the entertainment industry, so what Janet said did not ruffle as many feathers as you would think. However, what makes the whole thing REALLY IRONIC, is that not long after this interview, Janet's work took a hard Left turn and her performances started to look very "similar" to Madonna's EROTICA ERA. One might even say that her work began to....... (how do I put this?)....... have less "class to it".... I'll say that..... 😂😂😂🤣🤣

I think the public opinion in this era was still based on the Erotica era, like it was the only thing she ever did. She got so much 💩 for this and I think the result is what you see in the first interview. Before Erotica everything she did was popular, after everything she did was not. Made her mature and a way better artist. Without the backlash I don’t think we would have gotten Bedtime Stories or Ray of Light. Can’t wait for the next one😊
