Her last tour prior to this 2001 DWT, was the Girlie Show in 1993. In that 8yrs interval she was busy and prolific: produced 4 albums/related music videos-Bedtime Stories’94, Something To Remember’95, Ray of Light’98, Music 2000. She starred in 2 films including Evita; gave birth to Lourdes in ‘96, married Guy Richie and gave birth to their son Rocco in 2000. She then conceived, planned, organized, promoted before launching DWT. Whew 😅! She was amazing!

The first time Madonna entered my country was Blond Ambition 1991. I was 12 years old. Couldnt see her. I remember swedish press gave her very bad revieews. One headline was ” Disgusting, Madonna!” 😂

This tour arguably had her most steadily strong vocals. It was very clear she trained extensively with a vocal coach for this tour and that part of her goal with this show to be vocally on-point. That vocal work and training paid off in spades. She sounded excellent for this tour. The dancing was understandably brought down in complexity for this tour, but she made up for it in other ways with spectacle, style, and provocation.

As I understand from the music video, the "substitute for love" is her daughter who was a child back then since in the end of the video she hugs her and says "this is my religion" like she was true love. At least it is my interpretation.

Suggestions for the next tour (Re-invention tour) 2004: -You should know there's not a DVD official for this tour, all what you might find is totally amateur, next with a raw material that never turned into a production. -it could be better if you watch her Backstage tour documentary called I'm going to tell you a secret. This documentary includes some performances of this tour and obviously have a perfect work. This documentary will help you to understand the context of this underrated era (because her American Life album). BTW KZbin is not notifying your lives. Maybe you should let us know on community part or ig ❤
