"Express Yourself" was written and produced by Madonna and Steve Bray was the second single from Madonna's fantastic album Like A Prayer. It was reeased in May 1989. This perfomance was shot in Paris during her Blond Ambition World Tour 1990 for her "Truth or Dare" documentary.

The song "Express Yourself" was part of Madonna's 1989 album, "Like a Prayer." The footage above was taken from the 1991 Madonna rockumentary, "Truth or Dare" that followed the singer on her 1990 Blond Ambition Tour. In 1985 Madonna was still wearing frayed pantyhose in her hair, wearing tons of black jelly bracelets and riding the waves of success from "Desperately Seeking Susan (film)" and "Into the Groove." -Not a sermon, just a thought. :) Thanks for the post.

Ok lets get this straight...... i am a little monster, and I love Lady Gaga to the end of the world. I love her message, music, choreography, and tours. Even though her album sales are less than BTW it doesn't really effect me or many others in the community. Now Madonna came first and was the "new" thing back then when she was fresh in the spotlight. Lady Gaga takes a HUGE influence from Madonna and MANY OTHER ARTISTS. All singers and bands have influences. I love both lady gaga and Madonna. Gaga is the modern Madonna, whos flame will not be put out just like madonna's. Both are exceptional performers and have humongous fan groups. It makes me sad that the two groups of fans have to fight over who is better ALL THE FUCKING TIME!!!!! It really makes me sick. I think both of our fan groups should be able to enjoy our fav's without all the bickering and name calling. WE KNOW MADONNA CAME FIRST DUH! SHES 55! Madonna is still in the spotlight over 3 decades after she started her solo career. The recent Rebel Heart Tour 2015/16 with all the 82 sold out shows made the Queen of Pop break another record: #1 highest solo tour artist in music history with US$ 1.31 billion starting with BAT so not counting her 1985 & 1987 sucessfull tours. While Gaga on the last 2 years is making covers on events since her albums & tours floped. Before Madonna there was no Madonna. Gaga is a pastiche of others artists works: aesthetics, songs, visuals, videos, live performances, career moves, specially from Madonna. Don't hang your shit on the most strong & loyal fan base: Madonna cause it was Gaga who ripped off Express Yourself + Vogue rap section to help her to make 1 of her 3 hits in a decade career & said that was Witney Houston that inspired her. Also lied on an e-mail that Madonna's team never send to her. Gaga needed to be channelling Madonna's name, songs, visuals, music videos, choreography, career moves to get spotlight, to be on the press news. Also Gaga didn't brought nothing new or original to the mainstream.

@FreddieGum This is not actually lip synced. It is live. It has just been dubbed over. This was filmed in France, and used for 'Truth or Dare'. If you notice in the beginning of the song she says "Alright America!" You can look up any of the other versions of this song (live in Japan, Texas, Niece, or Barcelona) and she is clearly singing live. Also, all of the other numbers for Truth or Dare are live.

@Dejection55 IT was filmed in Paris. But they changed the words to "Alright, America". You can tell by her hair. When she was in Japan and the USA her hair was in the ponytail, by the time she reached Europe, she was wearing it naturally. The ponytail was causing it to break off.

Can we all just agree that Madonna is a pop music legend and the original. She did everything first. Madonna didn't actually have any females to look up to because she truly was the first of her kind...Instead she looked up to MJ and Bowie. Gaga looks up to them too, but since she came after Madonna, Madonna will always be the female pop singer prototype. They are both good, hardworking, artistically driven underdogs and I love them both (but I have infinitely more respect for Madonna).

This is @ Bercy, in Paris. She stopped using the ponytail because it kept getting caught in the headset - plus it was damaging her hair. The corset here is also a paler shade of pink than used in Japan/USA/Canada. There were three made (all costumes were made x 3). One was found in a bin after the Barcelona concert, near the tour's end. The guy who found it offered to give it back to M, via Warner Bros. Espana, but she let him keep it. How sweet : )

@johnlouisville Actually This is from Paris..It was footage used for Truth Or Dare. MADONNA only had a ponytail during the american leg of the tour. The "Alight America" is dubbed for editing for the truth or dare documentary. The actual track in this version is not sung live its also dubbed with the album track with the audience added in. The Actual live track could be heard on the Nice France Taping.
