Madonna's videos are usually a homage to iconic times in the past or to creative future, she is always out of the time so her message can be told and read deeply. In "Hung Up" hit she uses a sample from the legend pop band ABBA in the 70s and the aesthetic from John Travolta in the iconic dance film "Saturday Night Fever" also from the 70s when Disco era than would give birth Pop in the 80s.

Fun fact: she had 8 broken bones when she filmed this after being thrown off her horse. If you watch Like a Virgin from the Confessions Tour she mocked herself as a new equestrian by using videos of people getting thrown off horses mixed with her own actual x-rays. She doesn’t do old songs unless she can find a new way to make them different so the horse riding accident was a funny way to do the song and work it into the equestrian theme of that tour’s opening act.
