Madonna is a hugely underrated artist, even as huge as she is. I grew up with her music from the beginning of her career but for me her mid 90's to mid 2000's era was her most creatively prolific time. She had some pop albums, some experimental. But not one of her albums ever sounds like the last. Her diversity and ability to grow as an artist is her strength. She's like a cultural sponge and it always reflected in her change in writing and sound from album to album.

Although this isn't her very first song released, it was, however, the song that put her on the mainstream map. Madonna used controversial topics and themes to boost her career. It was a marketing tool that paid off for her. She is a smart business woman who knows how to market her brand. She's know for her controversial sex and religion themes. For a long time she had mixed feelings about the faith she was raised in, Catholic. Later on in life she changed her religion to kabbalah in which she took on the name Esther. Her fashion sense was the look of the times, only she honed it in so tight into a style that pretty much molded a look of the decade.

This song was very provocative. Madonna blazed the trail for female pop artists. She was fearless in every aspect of her life/career. I was a teen when this song came out, and EVERYONE knew this song, sang it and wanted to dress like her. She started it all. There would be no Britney, Christina, etc without Madonna. She bore the brunt of sexism so those who followed could enjoy more artistic freedom. POP HISTORY!!!

The video and the song complement each other really well, i think you understood the lyrics right, she finally found someone who makes her feel "like a virgin", not literally but in making her believe that a fairy tale romance is truly possible, and the video seems like it was a little bit of a modern take on Beauty and the Beast, and she was wearing a wedding dress so she definitely felt he was the one lol. Madonna's music can definitely be "fun", it often is. Yet, there is also a very distinctive seriousness to her artistry - she's always inserted issues related to social justice, gay rights, feminism, sexuality, ageism, racial equality, etc to her music, videos, imagery in general, and lyrics. Her discography is super diverse, rich and deeply interesting. You would deffo enjoy reacting to a few more of her videos - you'll be shocked at how much her music, style and image changes over the years. She's so creative!
