Your reactions to this were similar to mine and my BFF when we watched the show on HBO live from France in 1990. I am 45 and am asked often by younger guys why "older gays love Madonna so much". THIS is why. She was a voice for us before we found ours. She said and did things we only wish we could have done. She was strong, daring, provocative and a force to be reckoned with. She has mellowed out and passed the torch to her younger predecessors, but her bold performances that challenge sexuality, gender, religion, racisms and everything we thought we knew are what make her important to our culture and keep her relevant. The Barcelona version is the BEST version. She was more relaxed cause she knew it was filmed for the European and Australian audiences. Also what makes this version special: it was hot and HUMID evening in Barcelona that night and her hair was extra crazy and also there were some technical issues: like her mic being still on while she was off stage and you could hear her commenting on the hotness of the weather. Also the sound quality is really good! 😊

Omg I lived for this concert, I had this and her follow up tour Girly Show... My entire room was wallpapered with posters, and magazine clippings. My Mom constantly threatening to tear it down. It was not until I left for college and I was passing on my room to younger sister that tearfully I maticulouslly disassembled. I think back to the Vogue? cover and shoot she did in ode to Marilyn, it was truly one of the most beautiful thing I've ever seen of her to date

I was a young gay boy in 1990-91 in 5th grade in rural Virginia watching all these videos on MTV and HBO and I was as excited as you guys and more. My wild Dad actually took me to see this Blond Ambition Tour in Washington, DC and it was so hard to get tickets. None of my friends parents would allow them to come with us b/c Madonna was considered so filthy. When she started masturbating at the end of "Like A Virgin" and the music sped up & the strobe lights were going, the crowd went totally wild and I was confused. I remember turning to my Dad and asking him, "Oh my God! What's happening? what is she doing?" He smirked and was like.."I'll tell you later!"

Young gay teen was a dream come true . I’m 48 now and still a huge fan. I’ve seen Madonna live 25 times now, this concert still stands as one,of her greatest tours ever and was I remember all the controversy surrounding this tour, Like you said, can you imagine being there? It was the 80s/90s. People were still stuck up about seeing sexuality being an open subject. When Madonna was threatened with arrest if she performed this song, she still did it, saying "I'd rather cancel the show than alter the show."

I saw this in LA in 1990. I was 20. The tour was the best ever. It changed the way tours were done. Nothing was better than Madonna at her peak. This tour was the pinnacle of her mega stardom. Truth or Dare really cemented this tour ad the best ever,. They released this as an official video because it was sooooo good. Check out “Express Yourself” from this tour or ‘Like A Prayer”.

Actually, this performance was done during her Blond Ambition in 1990. The clip you watched was in the 1991 documentary called Truth or Dare (a Blu Ray quality has been released since so hence the good quality) Fun fact: Prince during his 82-83 "1999" Tour did a performance of "International lover" on a bed. Where Madonna got her inspiration. Back in the 80's There was even speculation that both Madonna and Prince talked about teaming up to do a tour together. But Prince said "The World isn't ready". They did though collaborate together for Madonna's "Like a prayer" album. He did "Love song", in which he lends his vocals as well, and worked on "Act of Contrition". His guitar skills in that one are amazing.
