This was Madge at the pinnacle of her stardom....gorgeous, vocally powerful, and determined. This was a song from the I'm Breathless sound track for Dick Tracy and yes those were all real diamonds 20 million dollars worth from Harry Winston. Left earring got caught in her hair after roughing up her fur shawl so she threw it at the orchestra or audience. She simply was a divine beauty during this era. Great reaction vlog guys. Written by one of the greatest Broadway songwriters Stephen Sondheim who among other things wrote the songs for broadway classics like West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, Into The Woods and Company. Funny story is that people think she was trembling because of nerves, but actually she was fuming mad. There was a technical mishap because the microphone stand wouldn't rise and they basically shoved her on stage as she was screaming at the stage hand. She then proceeds turns her back to the audience in front of the microphone stand and carries on as if nothing happened and eases back into the performance. Because, the show must go on! The song won an Oscar, but since she had no writing credit on the song she didn't get one herself. Also known as the night Pop Royalty came together with the King and Queen of Pop attending the event together. After this they flirted the idea of collaborating on MJ's next album (Dangerous) and Madonna was intended to be on Michael's song In The Closet. She wrote lyrics which he deemed to be too provocative and had a vision of genderbending in the music video with her dressed in boy drag and MJ in drag, but Michael wouldn't hear of it and the collaboration never really took place, it was first rumored that the intro to the song was Madonna as the credits mention "mystery girl" but it was later revealed to be princess Stephanie of Monaco (Grace Kelly's daughter).

I remember watching this live at the Oscars of course from my living room. I was so excited for her she literally stole the show that night. Her date was Michael Jackson which caused a paparazzi storm. All I remember was after it was over was watching it over and over. I remember having a feeling of euphoria that unlike any drug you can take. I had it when I watched your reaction video some 25 years later.
