I've said it before and I'll say it again: You notice everything, Empress. It's very impressive and you get what artists are up to, what makes them who they are. The thing about this performance is it's a very basic stage and lighting and the only props are the jackets and monocles. But you never get bored. You're riveted the whole time because that woman has presence like no other. She is in command and, for an empowering song like Express Yourself, it works even more than usual.

This is my favorite MTV VMA performance of hers. Did you notice the suspenders holding up the corset bustiers? Madonna did the dance Roger Rabbit in addition to the Running Man and the backwards Running Man with Donna and Niki.Yes, she was introduced to Vogueing around that time by her old time friend Debi Mazar who Madonna met at the Danceteria nightclub where Debi worked as the elevator girl. Debi took Madonna to the Soundfactory nightclub in NYC and introduced her to Jose and Luis of the House of Xtravaganza. Madonna had them in her Vogue music video and her Blond Ambition Tour and helped her choreograph both of them. This performance was and still is kick ass! And yes, I love the crotch grab!

I was 12 yo and already a big Madonna fan but this (and the year to follow) was I think a game changer! Madonna developed in this era from a great pop idol into a real artist that was bringing something new to pop with each album, video and perfomance she did. The time before she established herself and now she used this fame to be creative and leading all all levels. Can’t wait for you to move in from the Like a Prayer era… And again, thank you for bringing your energy and knowledge, you’re the best💚

Iconic performance!! This was the tip of the iceberg... Blond Ambition Tour will blow your mind! Did you know that yesterday Billboard named her The Greatest Solo Artist (male and female) in Hot100 of all time? Amazing!
@hoxtondean98553 жыл бұрын
What was the matrix for that accolade? I think Madonna is the greatest ever, in terms of creativity, for pushing new ways of looking at societal issues, for resilience etc. So to me she is amazing. :-)

It’s your reaction to the voguing tease for me! And to the “Yeah” at the end. That’s why we trust your Madonna journey when a lot of other KZbinrs are looking at her stuff for the fan clout. You GET IT. The toughness, the humour, the charisma, the street smarts, the sensitivity and the defiance it took for her to carve out an entire new idiom for female pop stars that literally everyone has followed to some degree since. “Yeah” is right. She fkn did that 👑

I definitely remember where I was when this performance opened the MTV awards, back then, everyone in my age group was watching this awards show. I even had my 110 camera out and took pictures off of the television of her because I want to remember it. We didn't have screenshots back then and I still have those prints even though they didn't completely come out but I could kind of see her in my little pictures off the television, I was so excited!

she used that version in the Blond Ambition Tour, only it was more detailed. this is fire, tho. I had it recorded on my VCR (remember what that was?) and watched it at least 3 times a day for months. Hey Empress! This performance in my opinion put her on the map for a very long time. She set the standard for dance pop. It looks dated now, but throughout the entire 90s MTV would constantly play this video over and over again. The 90s was more of the nirvana era. Almost Everly one did rock or RnB. Very strict lol.
