Fantastic song, fantastic album (one of my all-time favorites)! I want to look like that during the apocalypse! They're dancing tango, which is why you're getting that passionate vibe (although Terrance is a bit clunky, Madonna, the experienced dancer, makes up for it). I'll say it again, this album is fantastic and one of her best! Madonna's voice is top-notch throughout. If I remember correctly, the album was hacked and tracks were released before the album was finished, which caused a mess for Madonna to clean up. Also, I think she wanted this as a double album (i.e. 'heart' and 'rebel' songs), but the record company didn't go for it.

I love that you loved this song! It feels very fitting for this year... It's very nearly a perfect song in my opinion. The one thing - and it is a small thing - that to my ear could have been done a bit better is spacing out the lines in the verses so that they're not all on top of each other. She almost doesn't pause in the transitions between one line and the next, and a half-second delay might have been better. That being said, it's probably an artistic choice to go line-after-line like that. It's otherwise flawless, especially her vocal delivery. And of course the video! One of my favourite parts is where she feels compelled to pick up the payphone because she's so starved of human contact that her desperation is palpable. Even though she knows she won't hear anyone when she picks up the phone (not even the automated voice saying to please hang up and try again), she does it and is devastated by her loss and isolation. This sorrow turns to rage, where she takes the golf club to all that wood and that's how Terence's character discovers her, as he hears the sound of her smashing things up. Definitely do the rest of Rebel Heart now that you've started here.

This song and video were ahead of its time... who knew in 2020 we'd all be living in a Ghosttown. I love that Madonna frequently uses dance as a metaphor for both attraction, and life. She and Terrence, on the brink of killing each other with weapons out of fear, drop the weapons and choose life instead. The deliberate 'chosen' family of a white woman, a black man and an Asian child... and a dog... is also a beautiful message of the world living in peace with no racism and prejudice, when quite possibly that's what caused the nuclear holocaust in the first place. Of course, if they really were the last people on earth, they'd be it. Madonna is well past child bearing and there's no other kid for the child to mate with. But at least if it's the end of the world, they have each other. The song is about survival and love.
