It was a different world back then, and Madonna was in the forefront of changing shit.. I remember this as yesterday, i remember how you could nearly feel the wave of WHOAAAAAHHHH TANGIBLY going through the air all over the world. It was HUGE! And i..having the same kind of background of upbringing as her ...well, i just felt this massive relief..because up until Madonna, i had always felt so alone against this massive male dominated organized religious bs and following all their ancient set of rules..It felt like i finally had an ally, although i had obviously never met her, nor having dared to dream that i would..(now i have held her hand for a brief moment) ...i loved her music, her cockyness and the way she performed..but when this happened, i had an ALLY. It was SO important to me, internally..i didn't feel alone anymore, and i never have since.. with this act, she solidified a life long fanship from me. I will Love her, til the day i die, and beyond. My life would not have been the same without her.

The Like a Virgin/masturbation scene was the main problem in Toronto, Canada but the whole second section (Religious) was the problem in Italy, where a private association of Roman Catholics tried to boycott the show in Rome and Turin in July 1990. Many times it has been reported that the Pope himself called for a boycott of the Blond Ambition show, but it wasn’t exactly like that. The boycott was an initiave of Famiglia Domani (the same association that protested in 1989 for the Like a Prayer video) even if the Vatican’s newspaper L’Osservatore Romano agreed that the show was a “complete disgrace”

It wasn't just that she had death threats, it was that the government didn't want to allow her show to go on. The tour company, and her record label feared for her safety, and the safety of the audience. There were muslims threatening violence. Indonesia is mostly muslim territory, and the country is run by muslims. They wouldn't allow her show. She planned on going on stage anyways, but they wouldn't allow it. She didn't have a choice, much like this situation at the Vatican with Madonna.

No, Indonesia was part of the first leg of the tour. She applied for the permit, she was granted the permit, because nobody had seen the show yet, she sold the tickets for the show, and just before the show was to take place, Muslims had seen youtube videos of her performances, and started to protest, and threaten violence, because of her being pro gay rights, so Indonesian Officials used their right to withhold her permit, and eventually denied her permission to perform for fear of safety.
