I love this era of Madonna’s interviews because you can see she was a little enamoured with her success and a bit goofy. The smile at the end, very “love me”. She had a deep yearning to be loved by everyone.

She's so vivid and beautiful here. In the 80s, major pop stars were like cartoon characters, big and vivid and easily recognized in the highly visual MTV era. (Look how her eyebrow makeup was drawn dark on her actual eyebrows.Ultra-theatrical.) Madonna would have been a star in the silent film era- those enormous eyes, the perfect symmetry of her face. Here she's selling herself as a pop figure, the hair bow reminds me of Minnie Mouse. Or Dorothy in original illustrations of the Wizard of Oz when she gets to Emerald City. The day-glo green of Madonna's outfit reminds me of that, she's the girl from elsewhere making her way in Emerald City (LA, NYC) so she's very stylized. Not on the farm anymore.

Also, she no longer offers anything artistically or even pop culture wise, time passed her by... It was probably a long working day for her, she says that's why she's in LA- for business. Doing the million little things to build her stardom, like doing foreign press interviews and especially talking to Adam from all-important MTV. At that point in her life she was a workaholic, I don't think there was anything else she'd rather be doing than everything possible to enhance and advance her budding stardom. Where else would she want to be, lying on a beach? Nah, she wanted to be there, it was work, that's all. But she loved her job, which was to become a superstar.

Madonna was way to mature for European music business. She could literally learn nothing here and saw immediately our infantile nature and our carnavalesque way of doing business at backyard podiums with 12 year olds sitting sipping a bottle of fake coca cola. That reporters asks her a bunch of silly questions that are more intruding in her pravacy than to the point what she already was and what she was gonna be. Adam Curry would have had had a bitter feeling after interviewing Louise. She was totally underrated at the start. Long viva Madonna, an artist of all disciplines and with much to say.
