Hi everyone!
We're reacting to the album version of Madonna's What It Feels Like for a Girl (We'll react to the official video version of the song in our next video). What a powerful (and emotional) song!

I am shocked to hear that you have received abusive comments. I've never noticed any. Your channel and subscribers are so positive and everyone is so into your reactions. Let me say that your channel brightens my day every time I watch and you both exude only love and respect. Don't let the naysayers get you down. Madonna never has!!!

Check their Music video reaction two weeks ago. There’s a hateful and disrespectful comment from a certain “RocknRollDina” Y/T channel. Madonna and her true, loyal admirers have always drawn the attention of bigots who can’t stand open-mindedness, intellectual discussions/analysis, the truth, kindness and goodwill. It’s the kind of crap that Madonna and her admirers had to put up with and learn how to deal with all the time. I’ve seen and experienced it during my own Madonna deep dive journey. But the key is not to be deterred. You can’t just always ignore it, there are times when one has to stand up to the bullying and nastiness and not allow the haters to define the narrative. I responded to that particular comment which I found demeaning and uncalled for. I appreciate Brenda mentioning their experience here.

Did the hateful comments target our lovely ladies or Madonna? Madonna has always had her haters, thats fine, shes for acquired taste, not for everyone but WHY would anyone be hateful towards Brenda and Emily? That's insane.

One of Madonna’s most vulnerable moments as a songwriter. I like to call this version the “Yin” version, as it’s really gentle, sweet & soothing. The music video (which was directed by her ex-husband Guy Ritchie) features the remix version, aka the “Yang” version. And trust me, you are NOT ready for it! 🚘🏥🍟🏧⛽️

This is one of the most thoughtful reactions i have seen on KZbin. You just get her and take the time to appreciate her lyrics and message. Madonna is relentlessly fighting against sexism, racism, homophobia...this is really a feminist anthem throwing some hard truths and still to this day, she gets alot of hatred from women too, telling her to hang it up and that she is over...I will never understand. Also you are so right about people trying to silence Madonna and trying to make her irrelevant when they didnt want to hear her truth...it happened during Erotica and while after Evita, Ray Of Light and also Music she was criticly acclaimed and highly successful, the next backlash and radio ban and effort to silence her and make her irrelevant is just one very political album away, so also your reaction is predicting the future on the journey as well. Wonderful reaction of two educated, kind women.

I knew you would really appreciate this, so glad you heard it before the video. Now the video will even make more sense, when you watch it I think. I felt your emotions and thanks so much for your women's point of view. As a gay man I can also relate to the song, especially the opening lines, which are from the movie "The cement garden", read by Charlotte Gainsbourg. She is a daughter of the famous Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. (From the French song "Je t'aime moi non plus", which was a controversial 'hit' in the early 70's in Europe and was later performed by Madonna.)

Madonna has been dragged down in the dirt so many times for defying the standards for women. It’s just like you say, what is acceptable? Why can’t a woman do whatever she wants? What is it about womanhood and femininity that is so degrading? Madonna never ceased to ask these questions and to do the exact opposite of what is expected of her.

It’s the eternal struggle within human nature-between our better “angels” and our “demons”. In our “demons” warped and dark view of the world, they are intolerant of kindness and goodwill and instead turn to meanness and being rude; instead of using intelligence to find wisdom and the light of truth, they wallow in ignorance and falsehoods; instead of positivity and magnanimity they resort to hate and mediocrity. We’ve been told of the ending of this story-where our “better angels” should prevail over our “demons”. But I believe it’s up to each one of us to do our part, and stay the course if we want to see the better outcome. Just my take about the “haters” issue.

The Album Version is superior to the remix in every way, though I love the remix when I think of it as a Dub as it lacks most lyrics. I also don’t care for the video, but I’m in the minority. I highly recommend watching her live performance of this from the Drowned World Tour. Lo Que Siente La Mujer, I believe is the title. She sings it in Spanish and it is memorizing. Beautiful reaction girls. Your sensitivity makes us proud. I think this is one of her deepest and most honest songs. As the song suggests: "Why would you want to dress like a girl? It's degrading. Why "lower" yourself to being a woman if you are already "a man"? It's cruel, but let's be honest, the WORLD created this in our heads, but we have to ask ourselves: WHY? FROM WHERE? As for the song itself, it's clear that the fresh instrumental was made for Madonna's new audience, teenagers from the 2000s. I remember how nice it sounded to listen to on headphones. Sending a heavy message with a delicious beat is Madonna's weapon. In the clip you will see Madonna, a woman, behaving "like a man". I'm LOOKING FORWARD to hearing your conclusions. Kisses girls.

❤that you nailed this one so profoundly. Yes, there’s a tenderness and sweetness to the melody and her singing, but her messaging is a powerful indictment of society’s historical double standard towards women, of male chauvinism, of misogynist and sexist attitudes…that Madonna certainly experienced and lived through. It was revealed that her sentiments were triggered when she fell in love with Guy Richie, was pregnant with their son, she had to move residence to England to be near him despite her busy career. Not that she was complaining, she did this out of love, but she felt that somehow it’s most often the women who had to make the adjustment, to compromise and accommodate to make things work. Indeed, historically, it’s been the women who often has to hold things together when families and relationships are faced with crises, hardships and challenges. Despite that, women got the bad rap ever since the biblical narrative of the fall from grace of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden-they are blamed unjustly for many bad stuff that has happened since then-as if Adam was just a mute and dumb bystander with no critical judgment and a free will unlike Eve. For sure, women have made progress towards equality and fairness, but this anthem of female empowerment, was many years ahead of the 2017 MeToo movement. Madonna was of course, in the forefront of the struggle for and was outspoken in raising awareness and in breaking down barriers for women’s rights, just like she has done for many other worthy causes in her advocacy. Regardless-outspoken, talented, smart and ambitious women like Madonna will always be perceived as threatening to society’s established patriarchy and to some women as well. She has been harshly condemned, demonized, vilified and threatened-but she persisted courageously and prevailed. I think the only live performances she made of this song (in English) are during her Music album promo mini-concerts at London’s Brixton Academy, and NYC’s Roseland Ballroom which were awesome. Her Spanish version of this song (Lo Que Siente La Mujer) which she performed during DWT was exquisite with an outstanding choreography.

@@OurAnxiousReactions Here’s a minute and a half (each) video links of the opening of the 2010 tv series Glee season 1, episode 15 The Power Of Madonna, where Will, the director of the high school Glee Club, tasked the members on the Madonna project with the goal of empowering the girls and to tone down the boys’ chauvinist attitudes, and the second video is the actual glee (all boys) performing What It Feels Like For A Girl. The theme fits the messaging of What It Feels Like For A Girl. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoSVf2trotaoeMUsi=M6K28E6Kro5OaVNM kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGKke2eel6lsfJosi=XV6FmTPHK_M2RRez

I'm really glad you listened to the original version first as the Remix in the Video is so so different but i much prefer the Original. Also she does something different with it once again for the Drowned World Tour so excited for that. It is an impactful song but the impact only really comes across if you know the original. The Remix has alot less lyrics so the original message can get easily lost so you definitely did the right thing by listening to this before the Video, which used the Remix. Always so lovely to see you two beautiful ladies.

Girls and Women Rock!!! Expressing and processing feelings is a strength and healthy for the mind and body. I have never been embarrassed or afraid to emote as a male - despite being discouraged by most around me. I have always considered those that cannot as weaker contrary to conventional wisdom. Empathy is also born in feeling. Women are the far stronger sex imho. I cannot imagine the strength and determination required to carry and birth a child - let alone everything else women do to sustain civility and society at large.

It’s all bred into us, it’s so sad, this is another example of Madonna showcasing such hypocrisy and sexism. I mean even the word Bride and Groom comes from the equestrian term, the bridle harnesses the horse and the groom leads by holding the bridle. I wish I knew how to change this, I guess talking about it here with your pensive and intelligent reactions and acknowledging it is a start. My hat is off to most women, for their resilience, strength and compassion. Thanks again for this reaction, it’s sooo important! And thanks to Madonna for again ripping off the bandaid, it ripples through society and it endures! 🥰🥰💕🙏💕🥰🥰

Well, escaping from the “eternal feminity“ is sometimes a hard thing to do. The construction of what a woman has to do-say-behave is so solid that even women themselves can’t notice the bad position they have been given. Fortunately, as Emily says, women are taking more awareness of this (in my opinion); the more independent a woman is the more reactive society becames to her behavior; don’t let anyone ladys tell you what you are-want-do. So sad you receive bad comments while doing this journey, try to focus on the positive messages you read, I’m sure there are more than the negative ones. And Emily and Brenda, you’re rad, I feel so proud to join your journey, I’ll stay here while you continue doing this. Cheers from Barcelona! ❤️

Everyone has already said everything that’s important. The only thing I have to add is, have you two worn matching outfits before? Also, whatever hateful comments you’ve seen are, I think, adding something to your reactions because they’re a taste of what Madonna’s received in her career. Perhaps they’re offering you a more immersive Madonna experience and if that’s true maybe we can find gratitude for the hate. But, between you and me and excuse my language, f*$k all them hateful mot&*#f*$kers, your’s and Madonna’s. As fans we’ve had to deal with this always and from the very beginning. It has been both exhausting and strengthening making us stronger fans AND humans beings. 💪 ❤ 💪

Madonna's powerful song may have minimal dialogue, but her soft whispers pack a punch that resonates deeply. She sings with such sweetness and delicacy, drawing listeners in to truly hear her lyrics. It's no wonder she asks, "When you open up your mouth to speak, could you be a little weak?" Her voice reflects the vulnerability in her words, making it all the more beautiful.
As I listen, I can't help but think of my sisters and the struggles they faced. They were always told to lower their voices or to stop talking, while the boys were never reprimanded for speaking up.
Brenda, your insights are truly visionary, almost like that of a clairvoyant when you said ‘It's not just men who try to silence you, but even women’. This reminded me of Madonna's powerful acceptance speech at the 2016 "Woman of the Year Awards". It's a speech that will never be forgotten. Your words are so powerful that if we were living in the middle ages, you would have been burned at the stake. It's a chilling thought to consider how future generations will view our treatment of women. Will it be seen as primitive as the middle ages, or even worse? I now Christen you "Brenda the Diviner", lol - that can be your drag queen name...... speaking of drag queen names and boys dressed as girls. During my college years I worked behind the bar at a popular nightclub that had drag shows, when the girls are between shows they'd hang around the bar drinking to calm their nerves as they were bitching about how the boss rejected their pay increase cause it is so expensive to make all these fabulous outfits with the salary they earned, they had to sew their own clothes cause men can not just buy a woman's dress it just will not fit right - lol - They also told me how to come up with your drag queen stage name...... for your forename it's the name of your first pet and your surname is the name of the first street you lived in. My drag name is Soukie Malakoff.............hahahahaha Great drag name.

I have a personal suspicion, this song was inspired by what Madonna was experiencing as a first time mother raising her then very young daughter Lourdes(Lola) I imagine Madonna was doing her best to understand the mechanisms that go into rearing an independent minded child, and not to fall into the trap of raising Lola to be held within the patriarical framework that Madonna was brought up in, and conditioned to be. She broke the pattern. I LOVE her voice towards the end of the song, where her voice becomes a soft hum, in rhythm with the flutes and guitar near the outro. BEAUTIFUL. Echoing the comments here, the official video for this song, the mix that is used, and the visuals are a counterpoint. When you see the video, it will all make sense. Her 2016 Woman of the Year award is a very powerful one. The official awards speech is a must watch. If only for it's video quality. Sometimes social media can be a mindfield. Haters, detractors, and recreational trolling can be taxing. Please know and understand they are insignificant to the joy and positive energy you both give to us viewers. 💗💞We love you!!😊💛💛💞💗

Dear Emily and Brenda. Thank you very much for your reactions on Madonna, it is always very good and very well analyzed. You should know that Madonna is interested in everything, in cinema and music, all over the world For the introduction to this title, she who adores France, took an extract from a 1993 film with Charlotte Gainsbourg, the French film star, multi-awarded around the world. Charlotte is Franco-English. Madonna called Charlotte to ask if she could use the clip from the 1993 film. Hence the title. I am providing you with the extract from the film for your information. You both are great. Big kisses from France. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpaYiWiGmNOAia8

What I appreciate most about Madonna is that after the 80's, I feel like she no longer cared about sales numbers or chart positions. Though she still released material that either was or should have been successful in mainstream airplay, she was more focused on expressing herself. It started with the release of Oh Father, then subsequent songs like Bad Girl, Bedtime Story, Power of Goodbye, What It Feels Like For A Girl, American Life, Love Profusion. I do think she tried to get back on track with more mainstream material from MDNA, Hard Candy, and Rebel Heart, but all of those efforts really fell flat mainly because I think she lost the audience by that point, especially American audiences.

The phrase we hear at the beginning is from the film "the cement garden" and I think this phrase inspired her to wrote the song... In the video the music is not so funky, more techno elctronic, and the only lyrics she sings is the tittle of the song, but it is very worthy, I like it very much! hard and very sarcastic, like the films her husband made! because is directed by her former husband Guy Ritchie

If you’re familiar with Guy Ritchie’s work, then you might be able to guess why. It’s fun to watch though. I personally love the remix of the song, even though most of the lyrics are removed. when Madonna sings the chorus you can hear the pain in her voice, of how the double standards for men and women are alive and well in our society.
