DJI Inspire 2 Drone new firmware V01.02.0500 has started to show the odd issue with power limitation for some users, further to my other video right now don't update is my recommendation unless you have a reason to specifically.

I had the drifting gimbal real bad too and I think a lot of people don't know it is due to the main controller which is the brain and most expensive part just behind the nose where the SD card fits in. Some of the main controllers have this issue and most don't. I switched mine out with another one that I knew didn't have suffer from this and it fixed the issue. Expensive alternative for sure and requires some technical skill but then was able to not upgrade to this firmware which did give me the battery throttling issue. Not as bad as some of the folks you're talking about but made me lose all my speed which is 70% of why I have the I2.

I updated after seeing your last video, my biggest reason was safety of batteries. Since the update FW to .500 I can't fly at all. The compass has now got a consent error and after lots of calls and emails to dji they are not taking any responsibility because its out of warranty. They wouldn't even transfer my prores licence to another i2. Sickened! I think Freefly will be my next professional drone.

That power management firmware they released to the inspire 1 effectively crippled the inspire 1 with batteries with many cycles

G’day Mick, After the upgrade on a very important shoot I lost gimbal movement part the way in, only after landing for the second time this flight to fix and removing X5S and reattaching I got gimbal usage back. UAV Snapshot

A lot of variations could come into play, battery age, low voltage alarm pre set, battery temp and what's possibly been used to charge the batteries. Not sure, I haven't had any problems. I noticed on the Crystalsky the go 4 app some settings had changed after the update. Tony from Australia

I have not forgotten when my Inspire one was neutered , luckily (maybe) I have been to busy and not been flying I have not updated my I2 , looks like I will be holding off .

Luckily I’ve had no issues myself as yet but having said that I didn’t have any before the update. I did it as updates seemed to be few and far between and I sure didn’t want potential problems with the batteries. You mentioned a post quoting frequent compass calibration. This is something that I’ve had to do on virtually every flight, even if I’ve flown there before, and that was pre update....always accepted it as normal for the I2, a little irritating but no insurmountable problem. Hopefully things will resolve themselves with either a patch, or the facility to revert. As a thought, IF the problem is as limited as it seems, would you advise suggesting a firmware refresh in order to eliminate the possibility of “bugs “ having been downloaded on the upgrade? As you mentioned, you can’t “downgrade” as yet so I guess there’s nothing to loose by refreshing. Take care and catch you later. One or two people? Might want to double check those numbers.. I have had at least 6 people contact me personally to help roll back the firmware. People are crashing because of this power management feature...what about temperature on the day you and the others were testing? I specifically indicated the battery cycles on my battery in the txt details featured in this video. The rollback is possible with 3rd party flashing, works and tested with 3 sets of batteries. No issues since and thanks for reviewing this situation.

This battery update has been an absolute nightmare for my Inspire 2. Can’t do a single flight without the battery warning popping up and turning my Inspire 2 into basically tripod mode as early as 90%. Went and flew at a typically windy mountainous spot I normally go to and nearby lost the bird because it couldn’t handle wind that it has always handled for 3 years. Even in sport mode. Luckily I flew into the wind here but if I hadn’t got the bird back to tree line height it would have been carried off beyond where I was because it was constantly being controlled by the wind once I got the warning. I have 6 sets of batteries and this happens with all sets. It’s quite dangerous really. I have to fly completely different and plan completely different. I love how much improved the gimbal horizon was with this update but in my opinion it’s not worth the risks involved with the power being extremely limited. I don’t blame you at all, I wanted that horizon fix but didn’t realize the power cut would be so common and so dangerous

Gimbal troubleshooting is bullshit compared to the power cut problem ... These are criminals. If you fly into town and can't get back in because this fucking drone doesn't want to give power, you're screwed! Because the drone risks falling into the city and killing someone. Cursed

Guess I'm screwed since two of my three I2s just got repaired and updated the firmware at the DJI shop. We'll see what a disaster this is when it gets colder here in a couple of weeks.

My son is the drone coordinator for his county police force. He updated his drones a month ago! It would have been nice to hear of this back when it came out, not when it's too late!! This is a BIG chunk of money to put in jeopardy.

I have four Inspire 2 modified to accept additional batteries, CF non-DJI props and all have a moded FW 1.02.0300 (mixed modules), with the non-technical limits imposed by DJI, well disabled. So I always send them to fly with a third additional 5200mAh battery, actually a splitted battery of 2 × 3S Li-HV, mounted on the arms. The (first level) low battery warning is disabled and so is the auto RTH which is always too much precautionary and incorrect because 1) cannot consider the extra batteries and 2) the rapid descent from high altitudes above the home point allows to greatly reduce the power demand during the RTH. I was just thinking to upgrading at least one of my Inspire 2 to this latest version because Drone-Hack supports it and should solve the known issue of the gimbal (X5s) not keeping the horizon constantly straight after a wide Yaw rotation, during a hovering (a bad behavior this, but which was much more serious with the older first firmwares) and should eliminate that rare anomaly of the battery % sometimes incorrect, overestimated. But now having seen your video and read some of the comments, I think I will not go to upgrade at all, despite the still unresolved problems with 01.02.0300. My last two flights with the I2 few days ago were on a very windy day at an altitude of 2000m-2500m, so strong wind that at the second flight the motors frequently was running to the max speed even while piloting it slowly and at times even during hovering. I knew before leaving there was strong wind at high altitude, I rely on Ventusky app. Happened that the camera during this flight had lost its complete functionality and even lost the live video for some time: freezed or black screen! Never happened before to be impossible to take pictures. Movie yes, stills no and I risked being left with only the small FPV camera because after trying to take a still, the video live was remaing froze. Not very comfortable with my aircraft flying at 3.5km far away, 1400m above the home point. Perhaps some brief instability of the electronic contacts on the gimbal, under the gusts of wind, created this oddity? Disappeared later after landing. I guess if it had had this new firmware 01.02.500, I would have seriously risked losing it, assuming I could have gone so far and high. My thought of upgrading was motivated by wanting to definitely eliminate the gimbal issue with its slow self-correct, but also the problem of the wrong % of remaining power, even if it happens rarely. This should have been fixed with the latest FW, but if you then get an absurd power reduction of the motors... we go from bad to worse! Here's what happened to me with 01.02.0300. I've had at least two anomalies this year where the battery percentage shown in NLD DJI GO4 was erroneously higher, as about 25-30% when it should be shown 10-15%. The voltage was correct, but in the second anomalous flight I only saw it later, reviewing the screen record. I usually look at both data, % and V, but I have had to finish to take the last group of AEB, 3 or 5 shots as quickly as possible, so in those moments I only kept an eye on the larger % which usually shows a correct dynamic value, which self adapts well with the variation of the current demand during the various flight phases. Descending rapidly, after few seconds, the % decrease much more slowly and often even rises a little, so during my far and high-altitude flights I can make the aircraft to go back even with less than the 20% of battery, if that value is correct. Having an extra non-smart battery is of a great help, both for extend the flight time by a few minutes, and for the additional security of having batteries that don't self turn off for a conservative automatisms. No visible penalty for the added weight of about 600g. In the last 3 or 4 minutes before deciding to return, I hadn't even looked at the voltage anymore and have not realized they were very very low! Too low also for continue to fly... I found myself having an Inspire 2 flying with almost completely exhausted batteries (about 3.32V + 3.35V for cell) without noticing it, but with a wrong 26% + 26% estimated, which I was counting on, and it was quietly hovering to take the last pictures, 3.5km away from home, 1435m above! Suddenly the forced landing (last warning level for Critically Low Battery) was auto activated, while it was 50-100 meters above some peaks. Just a few moments to take the last burst of 5 AEB, then immediately retake the commands, piloting it towards home with an initial orientation difficulty because the gimbal was looking in the opposite direction of the home and the zoom had remained on a medium-tele focal length, not so convenient for estimate the effective distances from nearby peaks and avoiding scratching them, but it was a priority to keep my fingers on the sticks, not to adjust the focal length. Cleared the nearest peaks, I have interrupted my opposing to the forced descent and indeed favored it increasing the down speed to the max possible, 10m/s. After 1 minute, the voltages, from a very worrying 3.15V + 3.20V, had risen to a more consoling 3.45V and the flight controller let me to interrupt the forced landing. Pressed the RTH button so to do a more regular flight, obtain less power demand and be able to free one hand in order to reduce the focal length to 16mm and examine the possible emergency landing options nearby during the quick returning/descending. But it was still too far, 2.7km from home, I could not continue to descent it at 10m/s for much longer, certainly not until the home, I would have touched the ground very far from home in an inaccessible, unreachable, dangerous area, crashing it for sure. During this return I was thinking that I would lose it forever, smashed into a ravine or above a dense forest, impossible to pilot it until the home point. Around 400 m of altitude I had to gradually slow down the descent speed to about 5-6m/s. The voltages now was oscillating between 3.35V and 3.45V. The extra battery made its valuable contribution, but it couldn't work miracles. When the aircraft was at about 80m above, but still distant 1100m, I have had to further reduce the descent speed, now to 2-3m/s. In the meantime I had identified an ideal, small flat and safe landing area of a very small mountain village which was 700m away from the home but about 200m below, so I quickly decided to land it there. There was noone there in that isolated area who could disturb me, no people in that period. At about 10 meters above the ground [with 3.08V (4%) and 3.16V (3%) batteries, note those odd/inverted percentage] the aircraft connection was suddenly interrupted, despite the amplified directional antennas. Too many natural obstacles between the RC and the aircraft further down on a hill, not in sight. The fixed external antennas on a tripod was not oriented in that direction and not even downwards. I went to retrieve him along a narrow winding road between the mountains, he had landed exactly where I wanted and hoped, safe and sound. The video recorded in the aircraft SD card, makes it clear that it remained hovering for more than a minute at a couple of meters above the grassy/gravelly ground, waiting for my ok, of course never arrived, before landing a little abruptly due to the total exhaustion of the auxiliary batteries. I have had activated the proximity sensors two minutes before approaching that area. The additional batteries have gone down at about 2.80V/cell, or less. Of course before the landing, when the motors was running during the final hovering, waiting for me, the voltage had dropped even lower. The additional Turnigy Li-HV batteries probably compromised even if I recharged them and they did not show physical or dimensional signs of damage and they did not swell, but those DJI smart batteries and the aircraft has been saved for sure. From now on I will never lose an eye to the voltages, especially after the first 15 minutes of flight.

I have lost my inspire 2 + X7 due to the new firmware Powe limit! Flying with wind but not much more then usual and wind just took the drone away. Airdata measured wind is 20% less then specified capacity for the Inspire 2. DJI refused to accept any conclusion from 3rd party website report and claimed the problem was the wind. Batteries 1year old with 40 cycles, always stored as recommended after 1 day of not using them

Thanks for useful information.I have a question. My I2 was updated with V01.02.0500. From that moment, my video file recored to SSD was corrupt. I guess caused by DJI Go4 Ver 4.3.16. This problem was disappeared, when I use iPad Pro with DJI Go4 Apps 4.3.38. But problem are come back to me with new battery installed to I2, I just flight forbattery shakedown purpose to fly for 5min, first video file was corrupted.I do not have this issue during my 3and half years of using I2. Is any suggestion?

My X7 has alway been pretty solid and it’s has never suffered from the roll yaw issues. The FW has now created this problem!! It’s almost like it’s over correcting for an issue that’s not there!! Also the power restrictions are very noticeable and almost turn it in to tripod mode!! This FW seems to be a fix for faulty platforms and not one one that worked fine before!!! It’s a very bad update!!!!

On our Inspire 2, after updating with this firmware (01.02.0500) it happened several times that while the drone was in flight, it suffered a noticeable power cut. As far as I'm concerned, this problem is for criminals to put around similar software, even if it's only 3 or 4 cases. If we think that we often fly over Florence, it may happen that due to the wind you are unable to return. The drone will inexorably fall on the city risking to kill someone. Shameful! Now, they have made it mandatory to use this firmware in order to use the new 980GB SSDs that cost almost € 1700. I believe that in DJI they are crazy ...

my inspire 2 is on version 01.02.0300. when i updated to it the x4s was working fine no problems. after updating to .0300 the gimbal went limp and does not go through the startup calibration at all. i did put in on another inspire with earlier version of firmware and it was working fine. now seeing as i can not downgrade the firmware i tried loading the 0.0500 but that keeps failing at 99% while downloading. it is not my internet cause i am running a 40meg line and the batteries have been charged fully. anything i am missing please help
