@Daniel-y6r6n Well thanks for the follow. There might be better ways to back a MadRock up but this is a simple way that also helps me control my descent. Remember if you get in trouble just let go.

That's the way. Another great thing is that if the mad rock disappears, you are still connected from your linesman to the rope. But looking at it set up on you there, it looks like you could hook over your bridge loop at the sometime. But as long as your waist belt is rated for 10 times your body weight, no worries. Except for hanging sideways, which I would welcome over falling.

My main reason to back it up is for accidental engagement of the lever. If you hook it on another line or clothing in the dark and open it up even partially, you could take a nasty whipper. I'm not really concerned that the Mad Rock would fail or the rope would break. I'm worried that somehow I'd monkey my way into flinging it wide open and not be able to close it. Sticks and limbs while climbing a nasty tree and any other unforeseen event.

My Backup is a custom T post step on a rope man 1 underneath the madrock safe guard attachment to my lineman rope. I use a walking stick that's a 4'---12' extension pole. I'm looking for a 4'--16' I built a custom heavy duty hook that I can hang on any good branch to 20' feet, and ascend just like that.
