Yes, it has that Ceramic Tile tone that I heard on your other Madagascar Rosewood video. I like the figuring and swirls of the flat-sawn wood. This reminds me of the Guatemalan Rosewood (D. tucarensis) on the back of one of my Martin's. That's really beautiful wood Tom! It's going to make someone a really fine guitar.

Your tapping sound reminded me of Jurassic Park film scene, when the T-Rex was approaching during the rainstorm. Yes, in that film starred Richard Attenborough, David's brother.

Very nice! I have three sets I bought way back in 2009. One set is very light colouring, and very light in weight compared to the other two. The other two are much heavier, and darker. They have dark red browns and seem to have some purples. I looked up Dalbergia Maritima to compare, but that is way more purple. Is there any way I can tell which is which?

Tom, was Elena made with Dalbergia Baronii or Greveana? Also, do you feel you can achieve tonal characteristics similar to Elena with a pairing of Torrified Spruce over Madgascar Rosewood as you were able to create with Moon Spruce for the Top? BTW, I am a guitarist who can not hammer a nail straight, but I absolutely love learning from the Tommy's Tonewood series. I look forward to every new episode! Thanks, John Gig Harbor, WA

Great video's. Here's a question. Which woood smells the best. What do Martin guitars use for bracing it smells wonderfull
@TomSandsGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Great question. Brazilian rosewood is known for its distinctive smell, it’s lovely, floral & spicy. I believe the essential oils were used in the original channel no.5 perfume. I think Martin use Sitka spruce for brace stock. The linings are typically some kind of mahogany, often the inside will smell like a cigar box.

Hello Tommy, can you tell us how to maintain the wood when we recive it, so it gets used to new enviromant?
@TomSandsGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Sure! I like to leave unboxing for at least 24 hours. Then I’ll sticker the wood for about a week before placing into storage. It’s always worth checking the moisture content of the wood before storing, most suppliers dry their woods properly but not all. Really important to keep an eye on the RH in your workshop!
